Talk:Greater Russia
From Alternative History
Seven Year plans were a decidedly Stalinist thing. What would be the motivation for them, in this timeline? Louisiannan 18:08, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
- well, I'm just trying to have Russia catch up with the rest of the world. Buk5 22:32, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
- That's fine...you might do better to have the attempted assassinations spawn an increased effort at modernizing, with Alexander II pulling in the most modern advisors from around the world, etc., wooing them to Russia to modernize. That would not be as Stalinesque as the "seven year plans" Louisiannan 22:39, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
any more ideas?
1) I still don't like the "Seven Year Plans." Stalin coined the term; it's a very Stalinist thing, and doesn't fit with the alt-hist, IMHO. I suggest strongly you choose a new name.
2) The 1882 stuff is very uncharacteristic of the times. Antisemitism in the US didn't stop, really until after WWII and the death of the European Jews. Many famous folks from before the war (Henry Ford, Charles Lindburgh) were anti-Semitic. Unless you've got a really good story building up to that legislation, I find it very hard to believe. [edit] Russia Magna
"Большое Россия" is bad Russian: "большое" is a neuter adjective and "Россия" is a feminine noun. "Big Russia" is "Большая Россия" in Russian, and "Great Russia" is "Великая Россия" — I recommend the latter. Also there is a geographic term "Великороссия" (Velikorossiya, Greater Russia), but the funny thing is it stands for relatively small area around Moscow. — Hellerick 11:55, 7 January 2009 (UTC)´
[edit] Norway a member of the Pact of Steel?
Hello,
Interesting storyline. However, I don't see why Norway, with a Social Democratic government, a vast majority of the population against Fascism (if Hitler in this ATL is a member of NSDAP), and a Monarch (Haakon VII) with a queen (Maud) of the British royal family, and a policy of neutrality would agree to a pact with Germany. After all, the only Scandinavian country ever to signing a pact with Nazi Germany (a non-aggression pact, to be precise) was Denmark. - Realismadder 17:21, 25 January 2009 (UTC)
- well, with Russia being mroe expansionist (taking of Bosphorous straits and a chunk of Silesia)., Norway may be inclined to side with Germany. Buk5 17:40, 25 January 2009 (UTC)
