Why is the king Charles IV and not Elizabeth II?
- Well, with a POD in 1824, it could well be King Peter or Queen Alison... ;) now, seriously, with no concerns about Charles not being a proper head of the Anglican Church (no Diana Spencer), Elizabeth resigns in favor of his son. (BTW... is IV the right count?). BTW, king Charles and queen Camilla are prety much bleoved by the British people. --Chlewey 19:19, 6 Feb 2005 (PST)
- If all else happened the same as *here*, Charles would be Charles III ... at least, officially. Though, some Scots might consider him Charles IV, counting the Pretender Charles Stuart as Charles III (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bonnie_Prince_Charlie)
- For this reason, if Charles took the throne, it's quite plausible that he'd have to take a name other than Charles as his regnal name. His full name is Charles Philip Arthur George ... perhaps he'd become George VII, just as his grandfather, who was formerly Prince Albert, became George VI.
- Alternately, his number could be one of political controversy. Nik42 21:36, 6 Feb 2005 (PST)
