A note that the fate of some of the European islands in the Atlantic and North Sea should be considered: some might be damaged by tidal waves of weapons exploding at sea level/in the water, some, such as Rockall are subject to frequent storms, but a number might be sufficiently far from strikefalls to be considered habitable/re-inhabitable, on a permanent or seasonal basis. Thus, for example, St Kilda and the Blaskets were inhabited in the early years of the 20th century but were evacuated, in both cases, on becoming too marginal.

Uses for the islands - making use of resources on land and at sea; way stations for boats and smaller ships etc.
