Err- you do realize if you take out the nervous system, you can't control your body? Also, how do you take out the nervous system anyways? Also, what fool would volunteer for this?

Stalin could easily either find someone willing - a communist schmuck, versus a nazi one - or have a prisoner forced into it.
You'd be surprised what people are willing to do for their cause. Heck, I'd bet that you'd find Americans today willing to do it if the government asked. And more than a paltry amount, at that.
