Talk:Cult of Jesus Christzalcoatl (Montezuma's Revenge)
From Alternative History
Just a small point, Aztec didn't sacrifice human to quetzacoatl, xipe totec would probably fit better. As a god of agriculture, he was said to die and come back to life every year. To show this, the priest would kill a youngster in front of the population, bring the corpse inside, flay it then come out wearing the skin as a symbol of resurection. The canibalistic part could go with it: a youngster is killed and after the priest comes out, he offer bits of flesh to other saying "this is my flesh, this is my blood". quite potent.
Another possibility is that huitzilopotchli has been melded with the christian God and it is to him they offer human sacrifice while the ask Exuz (jesus) to intereceded for them (since he offered himself as a human sacrifice to his father).--Marcpasquin 02:08, 14 May 2005 (UTC)
I poked around the web on "Quetzalcoatl" and it seems that most references indicate that that God actually opposed human sacrifice. However, there seems to also be contradictory evidence that human sacrifices were offered to Quetzalcoatl.
I think Q should stay in. The Aztecs were afraid that Cortes was Quetzalcoatl, so that sort of ties in. And the Quetzalcoatl / Christzalcoatl thing is kind'a cute. Your right on target with "this is my flesh, this is my blood". --AirshipArmada 07:03, 14 May 2005 (UTC)
Quetzalcoatl was one of those Gods that blended into everything so its hard to determine him from other gods and vice versa. I had an alt history like this and I named it the Church of Jesus Quetzalcoatl.
