Why do the Jews die out as well? - Nik 18:49, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Yeah, I question that as well. Not that it's an invalid choice but I think their needs to be more justification. --WildGunman 19:20, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Out of curiousity, what is the link perceived between the absence of christianity and the slowness in technological advances ? for that matter, why did it also affect non-christian countries ?--Marcpasquin 02:19, 28 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Probably a cause of the perception is the name given to the early middle ages: "dark ages", but this is undoubtly a very Eurocentric PoV. Actually Germanic-Gaulish-British PoV.
Technology appears whenever technology solve problems. Science appear whenever that technology needs a more structured approach than trial and error.
Roman technology was good for Romans, when they could restore to slave labour whenever they need to multiply force. During the "dark ages" there were technological improvements like water mills, which were a necessity when slave labour was scarce.
Religion is a good excuse to hider progress, but then, any religion would sufice.
The Islam that seems today to oppose progress, was the same Islam that sponsored science and discoveries during the middle ages. Back then science was a way to know better about God and to expand Islam. Today, they seem a need to protect their values against more industrialized and scientific "West".
So chances are that, absent Christianism, we would see similar effects regarding science and technology: Zeus would forbide Galilei to suggest that the Sun was not moved by Apollo but rather Earth moved arund the Sun.

[edit] A note to the creator of this timeline

Articles that are part of a timeline should contain the timeline's name after it in parentheses. I have moved articles such as Gaul to Gaul (No Christianity world). You can use the template {{NCW|X}} which produces the equivalent of [[X (No Christianity world)|X]] - Nik 06:11, 28 Apr 2005 (UTC)

More than that you should add a category id to each of your sub pages so that they apear in the appropriate categories for nations, people etc. This is a lot of work, I'd love to make sure all of the facets are connected. --The Wild Gunman 21:46, 28 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Emperor

How is the Emperor chosen in the modern world?

[edit] This page's name

It might be better to move this page to simply No Christianity world, since the page itself is a general description of the world rather than of Christianity itself. - Nik 06:49, 4 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Calendar?

Is the Julian calendar still in use, or was there a reform, perhaps along the same lines as *here*'s Gregorian, or perhaps along different lines? - Nik 06:51, 4 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] A note about Jews and Christians in the Roman Empire

Some thoughts:

Jews were, in fact, quite widespread and commercially and socially successful in the Eastern Roman Empire by 40c.e. This is what allowed Paul to succeed in his missions; he was able to draw on support from a network of Jewish symphathizers throughout Greece and Syria. (See the book: In Search of Paul [1])

Thus a failure to establish Christianity would have likely increased the influence of Jews in the Empire even when Judea was destroyed in 166.

Further, wouldn't lack of Christianity hastened the collapse of Rome rather than preserving it? Afterall, Byzantium persisted partly through a united faith for a thousand years, when Western Rome had long disintegrated.

This is an interesting point. In fact, the very absence of Christianity might have meant that the Jews would have eventually "collapsed the Empire from the inside" instead. Before that, Judaism might have become the official religion, Eastern and Western Europe would have developed separate versions of Judaism etc. - in other words, OTL, except Christianity is replaced with Judaism. Now, that's an interesting ATL just waiting to happen! I don't know enough about Judaism to follow that train of thought all the way through, but I'm sure someone here does... :o) Michael riber 18:46, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Mithraism

Christianity was not the only religion to rival roman polytheism. Probably one of the best candidates is Mithraism, some of its temple having being found by archeologists under christian church pointing to an absortion by the later. --Marcpasquin 18:13, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

wouldn’t Mithraism be one of the dominant religions in the "no Christianity world" since there was no Christianity to rival it in any way?--71.234.233.163 18:39, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
I think perhaps either the cult of Sol Invictus or (possibly) Manichaeism would eventually come out on top. Mithraism was just too exclusive, and a mystery cult to boot. --Sikulu 07:32, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Other Nations

What kind of problems did the Persians cause for Rome if any? When did Rome manage to get a hold of all of Germania? Did the Mongols remain a minor tribe eventually conquered by the Chin? Were relations between Rome and the Chin always peaceful?--TEAKAY 19:44, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
