Takasaki (高崎市 Takasaki-shi), also known as Buenos Aires by the Brazilians, is a city and the capital of Kōshi.
The city was originally named Buenos Aires by the Portuguese and was founded in 1650. It was originally a part of Brazil, until the Portuguese-Japanese colonial war in 1720, in which the city was taken and renamed Takasaki by the Japanese. A few years after Kōshi's independence in 1802, the city was made into a separate Prefecture.
