Liechenstein

After the Great War, Liechenstein turned to Switzerland to safeguard their nation, The nations share a currency - the Swiss Franc since 1920. In 1923 Switzerland finalized an open border and customs union with Liechenstein.  Since 1919 Switzerland has represented Liechenstein diplomatically and protect both their nation and their citizens' interests abroad.

Proposed in 1923 by Switzerland to create a common coal, iron and steel market in contiguous nations in Europe. Nations invited to participate included Liechtenstein, Italy, Germany, France, Luxembourg, Belgium, and the Netherlands. The flag (left) uses yellow, red and blue to represent coal, iron ore and steel.
