Sweet were a popular glam rock band which underwent a change of musical style which was similar to that of Slik at about the same time. The lead singer, Brian Connolly, went into rehab for alcoholism in 1980, which appeared to be successful, and the band went into tax exile in 1981. During Margaret Thatcher's desperate "U-Turn" of 1984, a number of rock musicians and other figures had their tax issues written off and Sweet were able to return to Britain. They continued recording and touring until 1997.
