In 1830, 7 years after independence Greece declares war on the Ottoman Empire for Thessaly with support from their British ally who wished to gain Cyprus and Palestine to secure Egypt. 2 years later Greece received Thessaly and several islands and Britain received Cyprus and Palestine. Britain then secured the Greece alliance and gave Greece the Ioanian islands and promise to protect and aid Greece.
In 1847 Greece and Serbia declared war on the Ottomans. Greece hoped to gain Macedonia and Southern Albania. Greece received Macedonia except the area around Skjope which went to Serbia and most of Albania.
