The Straits States (Chinese: 海峽聯邦, hǎixiá liánbāng) is a sovereign state located in Southeastern Asia. The nation is comprised of several exclaves and islands across the Malay Peninsula and the Indian Ocean.
The modern day nation gained independence in the 1960s. Prior to this, the territory was divided between the British-controlled Straits Settlements and the Dutch-controlled Bangka Belitung and Riau Islands. Following World War II, the two colonies acted as safe havens for the Chinese residence. Anti-Chinese sentiments were on the rise after years of occupation by the Xian Dynasty.
