Saint Kitts and Nevis is a state of the East Caribbean Federation. It gained its independence from the United Kingdom less than a week before Doomsday, on 19 September 1983.
On Doomsday and in the period soon after, St. Kitts and Nevis was a lucky nation: wind patterns meant that very little fallout hit the isles, and some large resource-carrying ships happened to be docked at the island, giving it more resources than many of the surrounding nations.
Many other island nations were hit worse (economy collapses, pirates, food contamination, etc.), and during the first few years after Doomsday, many refugees made their way onto the two islands. So many, in fact, that the government decided to build two large refugee camps, one on St. Kitts and one on Nevis.
"Several former British islands, led by St. Kitts and Nevis, had bonded together into a economic group that called itself the North Antilles Trade Agreement." From St. Lucia (1983: Doomsday)
The relatively low amount of damage done to the nation and population, and its stability has helped to become one of the major nations of the ECF/Caribbean as of 2012. It is partially responsible for the governing of Antigua and Barbuda (formally until 2005, when A&B became its own state within the ECF).
