Square Enix Holdings Co., Ltd. (株式会社スクウェア・エニックス・ホールディングス Kabushiki-gaisha Sukuea Enikkusu Hōrudingusu) is a Japanese video game developer, publisher, and distribution company that is best known for its role-playing video game franchises, which include the Final Fantasy series, the Dragon Quest series, and the Kingdom Hearts action RPG series. Its headquarters are located in the Shinjuku Bunka Quint Building in Yoyogi, Shibuya, Tokyo.
In 2005, Square Enix planned to acquire Taito Corporation, but was held off until 2007 in which talks begin between the two companies again. On August 25 2008, Square Enix announced its acquisition of the gaming developer and publisher, Taito Corporation, renowned for their arcade hits and famous for the Touhou Project. By October Sixth, the acquisition of Taito was completed and became an official subsidiary of Square Enix.
