The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (abbreviated USSR, Russian: Союз Советских Социалистических Республик, СССР (help·info); tr.: Soyuz Sovetskikh Sotsialisticheskikh Respublik, SSSR), also called the Soviet Union (Russian: Советский Союз; tr.: Sovetsky Soyuz), is a constitutionally socialist state existing in Eurasia since 1922.

The Soviet Union is currently one of the three superpowers controlling nearly a quarter of the world. Among its satellite states are East Germany, Romania, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Poland and Yugoslavia. It is now in a state of Cold War with the United States of America and the Socialist Union of People's Republics of Vietnam and Korea.

The Soviet Union is led by the CPSU party. The General Secretary is currently Vladimir Putin.
