The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR, Russian: Сою́з Сове́тских Социалисти́ческих Респу́блик, Soyuz Sovietskikh Sotsialisticheskikh Respublik, abbreviated СССР, SSSR), commonly known as the Soviet Union (Russian: Советский Союз, Sovietsky Soyuz) and sometimes the Union (Soyuz), is a constitutionally socialist state that is located in Eurasia since its foundation in December 1922. It is currently governed by a single-party political system dominated by the Communist Party. Although the USSR was nominally a union of Soviet republics (15 in all after 1956) with the capital in Moscow, it is actually a highly centralized state with a planned economy.
After being declared victorious of battle with Nazi Germany, the Soviet Union and the United States of Ameria were the world's two leading superpowers, and the Cold War began between the two. In the middle of the Cold War came the Great Colonization War, the war dealing with the colonization of Luna and how it goes against the Selenic religion. The United States and the Soviet Union were on the same side, and the Cold War soon ended, meaning less money would be used to compete to space.
By the end of the war, the Space Colonization Treaty granted the USSR a colony in the south pole of Luna due to coastal issues and an option to colonize as much land above the poles. Although many regions of the USSR had thought of splitting apart from the Soviet Union and getting their own colony, they realized there wouldn't be enough time and money to start a colony before land ran out, and the Union stayed a Union.
