The Slate is Microsoft's large-screen format touch-screen-only portable computer, manufactured by HP. It comes in three forms: a two-screen book-style touchscreen, a 7" slate, and a 10" slate. The slates are both 16:9 format, the 7" in 720p, and the 10" in 1080p, and capable of viewing HD content. Both are less than a third of an inch thick, with battery live measured from 8 to 12 hours, depending on usage. They are multi-touch capable, have a webcam, and accept pen input as well. With a bluetooth headset and a wireless plan, users can also make cellular calls from the device and have unlimited data plans as well. Each device is based on the Zune and Windows Mobile software, bearing an interface strikingly similar to the Zune XD, with a few touches of Windows Mobile as well. Apps that are purchased on the Zune Marketplace are also functional on this device, which also has Slate-only apps for purchase on the Zune XD Marketplace, viewable only on the Slate.
