Shoulder pads were fabric-covered pads used in clothing to create the appearance of broad shoulders in the first interwar period, during the Second World War and briefly in the mid-Elizabethan era. They were particularly popular in the military-influenced fashion of the 1940s. They are paralleled in the breast pad trend which began in the late first decade of the Caroline Era.
