The United Newe Republic, Neweland, Shoshoni Republic, Shoshoneland, is a large military autocracy in western Leifia. It has the dubious honour of having the single longest border with Mexica. It also borders, clockwise from west to east; South Yokutland, Kidütökaland, Niimiipu Republic, Kalispu Republic, Apsaalookriga and Tsetsehestahesia. The capital is Tukuaduka and the population around 1.6 million.
The official language is Shoshoni, itself divided into various dialects.
The currency is the Shoshoni Toi (SHT).
During the movements triggered by the rapid expansion of the Aniyunwiyan Empire in the 13th century the lands of the so-called Great Basin became a safe haven for many tribes, and the various Shoshoni tribes soon became dominant around the Goshute Lake. Outside of small trading parties they remained outside the day-to-day life of Leifia until the latter stages of the First Mexic-Leifian War where upon the tribe were used as scouts for those Eastern armies trying to outflank the Mexic.During the late-17th and 18th centuries the Álengsk Gullvega linked the gold fields of Snjorjamark (see Atsugkriga) with the Missouri River ports and traversed Shoshoneland. This spurred development of a central authority through the previously lawless and tribally divided territory. Álengsk commanders would give support to any local chiefs who could ensure security for the gold convoys The Álengsk paid the new rulers handsomely for the protection they could provide. Eventually power coalesced around the chiefs of Kusiutta and they compelled much of the tribe to settle down on the land (so as to be more easily taxed) especially along the Kimoonim River in the north and the Wasatch valley in the centre. The Gullvega remained in force until the Second Mexic-Leifian War (1774-1793) when it was disrupted by invading Mexic forces.
Shoshoneland remained occupied by the Mexic for much of the war, however the invaders were very interested in the minerals below the surface of the country and when they were ousted in 1792, they left behind the beginnings of a potent mining industry. The Álengsk connection still remains as Álengsk money and expertise has largely helped build a network of small-gauge railways linking the centres of population to the ever-growing system of mines throughout the country. The economy is mostly dependent on exporting minerals, especially copper, and coal. Salt produced from Goshute Lake was a high value export too, often joining the gold wagon trains to be exported eastwards.
The border with Mexica is mostly marked by a 'wide ditch and a wooden fence' The invention and widespread adoption of 'razor' or 'barbed' wire in the 1930s has made this slightly more secure but the sheer distances and isolation of much of the border makes it porous and un-defendable.
The government is selected from the ranks of the army's officer class, who usually hail from the dominant Kusiutta tribe. There are elections however the powers that the elected council have are limited and this body is more usually there to rubber-stamp the decisions of the military.
The head of government is General He-Dow.
