Sandra Ascalon is a United Republic politician and lawyer, she served as the 23rd President of the United Republic of Tiangong. She was the second President of European descent. Ascalon is the grandmother of Luke Dawson, who ran for President in the 2016 elections.

Ascalon ran in 1989 against Kuvira Laghima, which resulted in the largest landslide victory in history, and was defeated. Despite her vehement opposition to Laghima, she was allowed to freely exercise her right to protest. Due to Kuvira's extreme popularity, Ascalon's gained the reputation of an untrustable politician, and her opinion was seen as irrelevant. After Laghima's defeat and the end of the Earth Empire, Ascalon was in turn elected in a landslide, defeating her opponent Senna Zenglai. She remains one the most influential politicians in the nation.

In December 2016, she was nominated by Asami Saito to be the new Minister of Science and Technology, and was confirmed by the Senate on 1 Februari 2017.
