Saxony-Anhalt (German: Sachsen-Anhalt) is one of 32 German states. It covers a total area of 22,097 sq km (13,730.6319 sq mi). By size, it is the 15th largest state in Germany, and by population, the 17th largest. It borders the states of Brandenburg, Saxony, Thuringia and Hanover.
