The Russian Federation, or Russia, is a nation in centered in East Asia, but that spreads across the Central and Eastern Asia. The country is a semi-presidential republic, established in 1991 with the unification of East and West Russia, concurrently with the end of the Cold War. The President holds the majority of power as Head of State, and is currently held by strongman Vladimir Putin, and with the Head of Government being the Prime Minister, currently Dmitry Medvedev. The legislature of Russia is the Federal Assembly, a bicameral parliament whose upper house is the Federation Council, and whose lower house is the State Duma. The capital of Russia, Moscow, is, like St.Petersburg, one of Russia's major cultural and economic centers, and also its seat of government.
