Russia lies in eastern Europe, limiting north with the Arctic Ocean and Sweden, west with Sweden and the Dual Commonwealth, south with Crimea and Kazachstan, and east with Sibiria.

Modern Russia dates from the conquest of Novgorod by Muscovia, after Muscovia broke free from the Golden Horde. Since then, Russia has been in constant struggle against the Khanates and successors in the south and east, and against Sweden and the Dual Commonwealth in the west.
