Rebecca Suzanne Ingram (born Rose; June 7, 1967) is the incumbent junior U.S. Senator for North Carolina, representing the Democratic Party, having served in that capacity since 2009, and is the first black woman to have served that position in history. In August 2012, she was named Jim Carrey's running mate in the 2012 Presidential ticket, becoming the first African-American to appear on a major-party ticket and the first African-American woman to appear. She also became the first female Senator to appear on a major party ticket; two prior running mates, Betty Davis and Debbie Harding, were Congresswomen, and Elizabeth Shannon, the only woman to top a ticket, was a former Governor. She is the second North Carolinian to appear on a major party ticket, after Henry Roland in 1956.
