At 5:30 PM on January 13th, 2002, while watching an NFL playoff game between the Miami Dolphins and the Baltimore Ravens, United States President George W. Bush choked on a pretzel and lost consciousness. As he was alone in the room, nobody was there to see him fall off of his couch and attend to him. As a result, President Bush, in a bizarre turn of events, succumbed to asphyxiation and wasn't discovered until the game was over.
Bush was pronounced dead at 7:30 PM after multiple attempts to revive him failed by Dr. Richard Tubbs. At 7:45 PM, Richard Cheney was sworn in as the 44th President of the United States.
Bush, having died only 359 days into his first term, served the third-shortest term in United States Presidential history, after William Henry Harrison's 31-day term and James Garfield's 199 day term. He was the first President to die in office since John F. Kennedy in 1963, and the first President to not serve at least one full term since Gerald Ford - who, incidentally, Dick Cheney served under as Chief of Staff.
