The Polar Republic is a country located near the arctic circle on the northernmost area of North America. The country was formed after the Polar Alliance and its leader Abedabun Istu tried for a new republic that was northern oriented. The Republic added on the nearby Greenland which was previously ruled by the Danish Crown but in negotiations the Island was allowed to be ruled by its nearby nation. The nation's population is mostly held in Alaska, with about 700,000 people, which is lowered due to the Diaspora of Alaskans policy which allowed people from Alaska to buy new homes in other Polar states at a discount. The seat of government is in Juneau.
Politics of the Polar Republic
The nation of Polar Republic is a parliamentary democracy elected every five years, the first time in 2006. Due to about 700,000 out of the 893,000 people living in Alaska the Diaspora of Alaskans Act was passed to allow other states to grow their populations. The Elections and Control Act (both passed by the first Magold government), stated that no state could control more than 75% of the members of Parliament at any given time which allowed for the evening out of seats throughout the country. The act, along with others passed, protected first nations rights and cultural rights which allowed for larger political representation in Parliament. The current Prime Minister, Roger Magold, rose to national fame during the Polar Alliance revolts. The Magold government is known as a very popular government due to there social reforms and moderate economic policies.
The main three political parties are the United Left, a self called "Big tent of the left" which has a wide range of leftest politicians, the Conservative Party which membership wise makes up about 59% of the country, and the American wide and affiliated Native Lands Party, which is a center-left first nations rights party.

2006 and 2008 General Elections
The first general election in the Polar Republic was a surprise to most voters due to the slight victory of the United Left. Due to the large membership numbers of the conservatives and want for a conservative country it was expected that the Conservative Party, led then by Sarah Palin, would win. Instead the United Left won and instituted some conservative ideas like a stronger constitution, and social conservatism. The United Left devoluted powers of social rights to the individual states on things like abortion, drug legalization, marriage, etc. The party though set up strict regulations while giving tax breaks to farmers and fishers, but not to large oil companies. The Conservative Party claimed that because of the Oil companies not being given tax breaks led to higher unemployment in Alaska. The Conservatives formed a no confidence motion and new elections were held in 2008 in the midst of a economic collapse. Then with a new leader, Denis Fenite, the Conservative Party tried to get the Conservative base to turn out to vote but with a strong "Movement Party" in some areas the party could only capture 30 seats. After the election the United Left raised income taxes, made the tax system more progressive, and lessened deductions. Initially unpopular, the plans afterwards of increased public spending and the creation of a National Healthcare Service (NHS) made a country split, whereas the east from Alaska was use to public run health care, Alaska was not. But by 2010, the country rose from the recession and Alaskan approved of the plans for an NHS.

The CP was able to win two of the four seats, as the United Left won one and the NLP won one seat as well.

The same parties won the same amount of seats, with the CP winning two seats, UL winning one, and the Native Lands Party winning one seat.
