Philadelphia is the capital of the United States of America. The Federal District (which is made up of the city of Philadelphia) borders the US States of New York and Maryland. The city was founded 1682 when the United States was under the control of the British Empire. The American Declaration of Independence and its original constitution were signed in Independence Hall, which is the official residence of the US President. The seat of the government is located in the Federal Parliament of the United States (OTL Philadelphia City Hall).

History

The City of Philadelphia was founded 1682, named after the Greek words 'Philos' meaning love or friendship, and 'Adelphos', meaning brother, leading to the nickname of the city translating to 'The City of Brotherly Love'. The city was named by William Penn, who founded the city in hopes of making it a city where he and his fellow Quakers could worship peacefully

Popular Culture

Philadelphia (and the surrounding areas in New York and Maryland) are the main setting in the Bethesda Softworks game, Fallout 3 (2008). The main plot of the game surrounds the purification of the Delaware River as a way to bring civilization to the wasteland, but is threatened by a Pre-War military group that claims to be the descendants of the original Pre-US government. Philadelphia is the setting of the Rocky films. Other Films and TV shows are also set in Philadelphia, with the West Wing being one of the most popular.
