Pelagius of Asturias was the first and final ruler of the Visigothic Kingdom of Asturias, ruling from 718 until 722, when the kingdom was conquered by the Umayyad Caliphate. He bravely fought against the invasion of the Moors, but was greatly outnumbered and the Islamic armies were able to wrestle the region from his control and dispose of him, effectively ending his rule.

Pelagius created Asturias as a safe haven for Christians in Iberia due to the impending takeover, but his work was shortlived unfortunately. Later, he was used as a symbol of heroism by the Holy Alliance during the Grand War.
