Paulo Salim Maluf (born September 3, 1931) is a Brazilian politician who served as the first democratically-elected Prime Minister of Brazil under the 1989 Constitution, leading his center-right National Renewal Party to become the largest party in the Parliament in the 1990 elections, where upon he was elected Prime Minister of a coalition government. He served a single term as Prime Minister, failing to regain that post after a new coalition was formed in 1994 following elections that same year. Maluf was heavily involved in São Paulo ERB activities during the Brazilian War and narrowly escaped capture and execution on many occasions.
