The Commonwealth of Ontario, colloquially known as Ontario, is one of the 45 states which makes up the United States of America. Located in the Great Lakes region, the state is bordered by Nipissing to the north, maritime borders with Ohio and Pennsylvania to the south, New York to the east, and Michigan to the west.
Historically, Ontario and Nipissing, were one entity under British administration known as the Province of Upper Canada. Upper Canada, along with Lower Canada would rebel against British rule in 1837. With American support, the two Canada's would gain independence from Britain in 1841. Lower Canada would go on to becoming the modern day nation of Canada, while Upper Canada would be caught in a rough spot. Knowing that the region couldn't survive on its own, Upper Canadian President WIlliam Lyon Mackenzie would begin negotiations with the United States for Upper Canada's admission into the Union
