The Democratic People's Republic of Korea, more commonly known as North Korea, was a nation in Asia that existed from 1945 until 1951, a period that spanned the end of World War II until the end of the Korean War, or the 6-2-5 Upheaval as the Koreans call the war. The DPRK, as the former communist nation was abbreviated, was annexed to the Republic of Korea as a result of the Treaty of Seoul, which ended the Korean Civil War.

North Korea was developed out of the post-World War II atmosphere.
