On June 28, 1914, the future Emperor Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary faced an assassination attempt. The attempt was unsuccessful and he proceeded on to his scheduled Town Hall reception. Following this reception, he went to the hospital and visited the victims of the assassination attempt. Two years later, on November 21, 1916, Emperor Franz Joseph would die of natural causes and Franz Ferdinand would become Emperor.

  • August 15, 1914: Panama Canal opens.
  • November 3, 1914: In the US mid-term elections, Republicans gain 72 seats in the House of Representatives, but Democrats still maintain a majority.
  • December, 1914: The Conservative Party wins a majority in the UK elections, ending five years of a hung Parliament. Andrew Bonar Law becomes Prime Minister.
  • November 7, 1916: Woodrow Wilson is defeated by Republican challenger Charles Evans Hughes. Republicans gain a narrow majority in the House and Senate.
  • November 21, 1916: Franz Ferdinand becomes Emperor of Austria                                                                                           
  • December 8, 1917: British economy collapses, leads to political instability.
  • January 22, 1920: Great Britain renounces monarchy; adopts Fascist dictatorship under William Wallace, a self-proclaimed descendant of the medieval Scottish warrior of the same name.
  • February 15, 1920: Wallace expands Britain's military leading to rapid recovery of its economy.  Wallace increases troop presence in Britain's colonies, including Canada.  US becomes concerned over British troop buildup in Canada. US President Hughes asks Congress to increase military spending.
  • November 2, 1920: President Hughes wins re-election over James Cox. Republicans now hold a super-majority in both the House and Senate.
  • August 1, 1921: British troop levels in Canada reaches 100,000.  US issues ultimatum to Britain, withdraw by Jan. 1, 1922 or face war.
  • August 22, 1921: Wallace orders blockade of the American east coast. British troops invade Detroit through Windsor.
  • August 23, 1921: US declares war against Great Britain. Prepares for long conflict. Great War  1921-1928 Austria-Hungary offers help to America.
  • March 11, 1922: Long Battle of Detroit ends in American victory.  British surrender city next day.
  • April 16, 1922: Mexico declares war on US sides with British.  Russia follows suit. US very survival at stake facing threats from all sides of its borders.
  • November 12, 1924: Battle of Texas bloodiest engagement of The Great War.  British, Mexican, Russian troops deliver crushing blow to US forces. Battle lasts 56 days.
  • December 1, 1924: Germany enters war on US side. France remains neutral. Germany and Austria-Hungary attack the English coast. German subs sink blockade ships off American coast.
  • January 1925: News of British atrocities in Quebec.  British outlaw French language in Canada prompting anger from France.  France, Spain and Italy declare war on Great Britain citing British attempts to eliminate Romance culture.  This helps American efforts.
  • March 1925: John Davis President of US promises to end war in two years. Davis orders the scientific community to search for super weapons that will end the war quickly.
  • June 1926: Battle of New York.  British and Russian forces shell the city, destroying the statue of liberty.  Thousands of civilians especially of romance descent are killed.  International outrage increases against the British. British occupy city.
  • October 5 1926: Mexico defeated. French and German forces occupy Mexico City. War begins to turn for the Allies.
  • November 11, 1926: Russian Czar Nicholas II assassinated. His son Alexei becomes Czar and signs treaty with US, switching Russia to the American side.
  • December 1926: First American aircraft carriers are put in action . The USS Lincoln leads task force in North Atlantic that destroys British Navy in that region. Canada experiences revolt.
  • January 6, 1927: Japan sides with Great Britain because of fears of growing US naval power. They prepare plans to invade US pacific coast that summer.
  • March 19, 1927: Russia in a surprise move attacks Japan destroying their invasion fleet..
  • May 8, 1927: London is bombed to ruin by American, French and German forces. Wallace escapes to Australia.
  • May 22, 1927: New York is liberated by US, French and Rebel Canadian forces.  British are on the defensive.
  • August 4,1927: Worst nightmare. Washington D.C. is attacked by new and advanced British bombers. All members of Congress and President Davis are killed. US declares military rule until end of war. Meanwhile, British civilian opposition to the war increases. 
  • November 13, 1927: Invasion of Britain. US, French, German, and Russian forces blitz through Great Britain destroying all defenses occupying all territory within three weeks.
  • December 3, 1927: Wallace is captured in Hong Kong by American agents.
  • January 2, 1928: Great Britain unconditionally surrenders to the Allies ending The Great War.   Plans are put in place for postwar Europe.
  • October 27th, 1931: Crime escalates in US due to bootlegging activities. Most liquor is smuggled in from Canada. Congress calls for repeal of Volstad Act to combat these activities.
  • December 8th, 1931: Volstad Act repealed. This is effective on Jan 1, 1932. A year earlier than OT.
  • February 1932: German troops still occupy parts of Mexico. The French left six months earlier. This complicates US-German relations.
  • March 1932: Germany elects the Nazi Party to power under Adolph HItler. Hitler vows to create a world empire. This concerns the US, since the Germans are poised on the southern border.
  • April 26th, 1932: Brazil, Argentina and Peru sign a key military and economic package with Germany. Germany begins building bases there.
  • June 8th, 1932: Canada becomes independent. A federal system is set up similar to US. Richard Fitzgerald is sworn in as the first President of the Canadian Union (CU).
  • 'August 19th, 1932: British Prime Minister Lloyd is assassinated in Bombay, India. Japanese agents are discovered behind the plot. Britain responds with sanctions against Japan.
  • November 1932: US elects Franklin Roosevelt President. He warns Germany of any further designs in the Western Hemisphere.
  • January 1933: Anglo-American Treaty. Britain and US resolve differences over the Great War. British agree to pay for reconstruction of the Statue of Liberty. Prime Minister Churchill assures America it will help defend her from any German attack.
  • March 1933: France, Spain and Italy sign military pact with Germany.
  • April 1933: Czar Alexi assassinated. Russian Communists seize control under Joseph Stalin.
  • June 1933: Russian Civil War.
  • July 3, 1934: Gavrilo Princip is released from prison.
  • July 1935: Nazi atrocities against Jews begin. Great Britain and France propose to Hitler Jewish resettlement in British Palestine. Hitler mulls proposal.
  • Sept 1935: Hitler agrees to resettlement plan on the condition that the British and French pay for the project. They agree thus avoiding the Jewish Holocaust of OTL.
  • March 1936: The state of Israel is established. The US, France and Britain establish full diplomatic ties.
  • April 1936: Russian Civil War ends with Communist victory. Romanov family hunted down and executed.
  • June 1936: Mussolini attacks Israel from Libya. Great Britain and France declare war against Italy. Mussolini vows to crush France for its "treachery".
  • Aug 1936: Spain joins Italy in the Israeli War.
  • Sept 1936: Hitler wisely declares Germany neutral.
