Napoleon sur son lit de mort Horace Vernet 1826

Napoléon est mort

The early 1800s have been known to be the age of the vicious Napoleonic Wars that gave glory to France. It was all because of one man, Napoleon, who had been considered the hero of the French because of his efforts to reign supreme in Europe. Napoleon was a valiant leader in the French Revolution, expanding France's power in Italy. Eventually, after overthrowing a semi-autocratic leadership in the French government, Napoleon declared himself Emperor. He helped the French conquer most of Europe through decisive victories throughout the continent, and marking its emergence as a great power.

However, his efforts would be for naught. Despite remarkable victories and unforeseen expansion into Europe for over fifteen years, Napoleon lost it all to the coalitions that had been opposing France's expansion since the beginning of the French Revolution. Napoleon was exiled, France's gains lost, the map of Europe redrawn, the monarchy of France restored (temporarily), and decades of underlying conflict and tensions to follow as a result.

But what if Napoleon died before he rose to power? What if he had died in 1797 due to disease, a month before the end of the War of the First Coalition and the signing of the Treaty of Campo Formio that ended the war against France? What would history face in a world with No Napoleon?
