The Ninety-Five Theses on the Power and Efficacy of Indulgences were written by Martin Luther and posted on the door of the All Saints' Church in Wittenberg. Martin Luther's actions created a chain reaction that led to almost a century-and-a-half of fighting that weakened both the Holy Roman Empire and the Roman Catholic Church. What direction will you take in this quest? How will you face the looming, and ever growing, Protestant Reformation? How will you interpret the Ninety-Five Theses?

Rules[]

See also Rules (Ninety-Five Theses Map Game)

Here are the basic rules for Ninety-Five Theses:

  • Each turn is one entire year. A new "year" shall begin at 00:00 (UTC) every day.
  • Wars will be decided by the algorithm on the talk page.
  • Any player disputes will be resolved by the moderator staff.
  • A player has three plausibility strikes. First time is a warning, second time is a ban and third time you're banned from the game.
  • Players may not create new sciences or technologies on their own but must instead approach the Moderator Team with the technology and provide explanations why they should discover the advancement; it will then be announced in the Mod Events section of the turn. Requests to advance are on the talk page.

New Mods - Minor Intermission[]

Announcement: Hey guys, thanks for playing so far, the game has hit a road bump as many within chat will no doubt be willing to inform you, ha ha. However, SkyGreen24 and I, Simmy1993, are going to attempt to fill the void. However, this will take a day or so, a simple postponing. So instead of 1532 going live in three hours, we're going to post the events for this year tomorrow when we should have been carrying out 1533.

This gives Sky and me a chance to come to terms with all the algos, etc. However, I'd like to float some points that I'd like you to consider, and if you strongly disagree, (or strongly agree) feel free to say such on the talk page. Going forward I'd like to consider carrying out the following:

  • Mod Events will be in more depth. Rather than a vague message about unrest, specific events will force nations to deal with them, or face the consequences.
  • NPC responses fell by the wayside in the early 1520s. From here on out, responses will be constant if required. Simply tag your post with a bold (NPC RESPONSE REQUIRED) and it will be seen to. This could be trade, diplomacy, etc. It gives players more options going forward.
  • Plausibility has begun to spiral out of control and events such as the Protestant Reformation and plague will be dealt with through events and in a more controlled manner.

Hopefully, we will continue to have an awesome game, and if you have any more suggestions, please let us know.

Simmy1993

Just a suggestion, perhaps make the response be red i.e. (NPC RESPONSE REQUIRED)

This is easy to do, simply type the following: <font color="red">'''(NPC RESPONSE REQUIRED)'''</font>. I think this would work because red is quite a noticeable colour. SkyGreen24

A great idea! To answer another major question, a new map will be crafted for 1533. If your country is different currently due to expansion or conquest, please leave an updated map, or list of changes to my talk page and I'll hop to it tomorrow night with a view to release it for 1533. Simmy1993

FINAL ANNOUNCEMENT: As we prepare to launch back into the game with 1532 we're going to try out these new events that require reaction. We'll also deal with the plague outbreak and see to it future outbreaks are more structured, with definitive numbers of dead, etc. Look forward to reading all of your entries!

FINAL FINAL ANNOUNCEMENT: Please send all tier upgrade requests here: http://goo.gl/forms/ACvrG5o9eh

FINAL FINAL FINAL ANNOUNCEMENT: Please send all war requests here http://goo.gl/forms/3m0sOjmtGU

Because all of you guys can't get it together, Fires is hijacking this game.

Guru Angad Dev becomes the second Guru of the Sikhs.

First edition of the Calvinist Genevan psalter is published.

The first printing press in North America is set up in Mexico City.

In Henan province, China, a severe drought with swarms of locusts is made worse by a major epidemic outbreak of the plague.

The outbreak of syphilis continues throughout American colonies and Western Europe, infecting thousands.

A limited plague begins to spread in Naples and the rest of Italy. Although it is not particularly deadly, it causes a major blow to the region's economy and trade networks, and has the potential to spread.

After the defeat of the League of Erfurt in 1533, the Holy Roman Empire begins to stabilize under effective control of the Austrian Emperor, though the Empire is still feeling the effects of the wars.

If they feel the need to, mods can retcon my events, but we need to keep this great game moving. ~Fires

Just putting it out there. I work all the time so I cant do all the events. I do the events when I have days off but some of the other mods do need to get stuff together. -Feud

Algo Report: Netherlands collapsed last turn. Sorry, Sean. ~Fires

Not gonna count that as official until 1. Someone who is unbiased does it. 2. A mod approves. Also, Austria can't annex me.

Is someone trying to invade Netherlands? England will bury them.

  • Nogai Confederation: The Nogai Confederation decides to focus on increasing the intelligence of the population, as many are nomadic and uneducated people. We continue to improve our military, to defend ourselves against Muscovy. The Nomadic Confederation officially establishes a devolved region in Astrakhan lands.
  • Brunswick-Lüneburg: with Brunswick-Gottingen liberated from Saxon suzerainty, the state is placed under Brunswick-Lüneburgs authority, as per the treaty of Berlin, and the preceding secret deal with Austria. However, with Münster under attack, and whose Archbishop has proved instrumental in the messaging between Duke Julius and the pope, Julius decides he cannot allow the state of a personal ally to fall, and joins in the defense of Münster.
  • France: This year, Francis the first died. Because his eldest son, also called Francis, had died earlier, Henry takes the throne. He continues to consolidate power over the still relatively new Naples. He does this by inserting Charles of France, his brother, as the Duke of Naples. Henry also makes the Duchy of Naples an office that will always be given to the heir apparent of the French throne, similar to the Principality of Wales to England. Because Charles is not the heir, he will be replaced as soon as Henry's children are old enough. Meanwhile, the military, particularly the Navy is strengthened. We start active ship building in our various ports, hoping to create as many as 15 new naval ships a year. Meanwhile, we add more men to the army, putting our total number of troops at approximately 124,000. Another project is also started, with the goal of improving infrastructure through a road system across France. The first road is to be from Orleans to Paris, and is already midway through construction. Other roads are also being built, mostly across the northern portion of France, but with a major highway leading from north to south. As another project to complement this plan, satiation in major cities is improved. This is mostly done by improving sewer disposal systems in major city, but regulations are also put into place about where animals can go in major cities. Satiation workers are also employed, with as many as 300 working in each of the largest cities. Additionally, a new education program is introduced. While it is influenced by Catholic teachings, it is at least in part secular. Children of any christian religion from the ages of 6-12 are allowed to enroll. The schools are mostly one room school houses, serving nearby areas, but the larger ones have several rooms, with the students separated by age. Our economy is also improved, both through trade and internal development. Following our opening of trade in Benin, our economy improves due to the influx of slaves from the region. Because of this, laws regarding slavery are introduced, mostly designed to prevent complete abuse of the slaves. Trade with Mutsu and China also improves our economy, though the effects are more muted because of the distance between our nations. We continue to encourage trade with other nations, focusing on Venice and nations within the Holy Roman Empire. We continue efforts to explore the world, with another expedition toAmerica set up this year. Based from New Normandy, another exploration mission is set up, this time discovering the Straits of Eischens (OTL Straits of Magellan). We plan to come back to the region next year to set up a colony. In order to deal with both plagues, the one in Naples and the one in France, victims of the plagues are Quarantined until recovery, and everyone is encouraged to be as clean as possible. This significantly slows the advance of the Plague, and we work towards making a full recovery.
    • Port Francis (Formerly New Orleans): After the death of king Francis, this colony is renamed in his honor. While the growing city still serves mostly as a trading post, it expands 10 px inland, and 20 px following the Mississippi. Luca Eischens, the explorer who opened trade with Benin becomes governor of this small colony.
    • New Normandy: After the formation of this colony, it mostly becomes a port as a further base for expansion. However, it is also used as a trading post for the limited population of natives nearby. This colony expands 20 px along the coast and 10 px inland
    • Consider this your first warning: this post and the post immediately proceeding it match 92.08%, according to this tool. If your next post is that similar, you will be temporarily suspended from the game. Thank you, Rexmod.
    • This is really your priority right now? Really?
  • Aceh: We claim victory over the Pagaruyung Kingdom and oust the local Maharaja and institute Islam in place of Buddhism. However, in order to avoid angering Ayutthaya, we allow the free practice of Buddhism, but heavily encourage conversion to Islam. We begin the construction of mosques all throughout Pagaruyung, and incorporate it into Aceh as the Pagaruyung Territory. As Pagaruyung had control over the local gold trade, we appropriate that control, and thus become significantly wealthier. We begin rebuilding Pagaruyung and our army recovers, readying itself for the next invasion. Pushed back, but not defeated, our forces return home to Aceh, where they recover. We switch our focus to developing our country, as we have realised that without gaining the upper hand over the other countries in the region we will never be able to forcefully expand as we plan. Thus, we concentrate on developing technologically. We ask for assistance from our friends the Ottomans to develop our technological superiority in the region. Also, we continue to rapidly expand the military, and to induce more rapid population growth, we institute a system of rewards for mothers who produce children. It is now compulsory for all boys to attend the new schools which have been established all over the country. Compulsory military service continues. We also send representatives to Europe and the Middle East to study the industries of Europe and the Ottomans, hoping to learn from them. While we're at it, we also try to foster goodwill and friendship by presenting gifts to the governments of Europe.
    • Korean Diplomacy: We would like to establish trading relations; you would give us gold and "exotic" tropical goods (such as fruits and timber) in exchange for minerals, highly-sought after Celadon porcelain as well as excess steel.
      • Acehnese Diplomacy: We graciously accept this offer and send a diplomat to Korea to present the King with a gift of durians.
    • Your algo was substantially off the mark, and you were repulsed by Pagaruyung by a large margin. -Rexmod
      • My apologies. I have rewritten my turn accordingly.
  • Japan (Ashikaga): Economy, infrastructure and military improve. Population continues to grow very fast. More residential buildings, cultural and public buildings, commercial buildings and mining plants are built. Roads and farms are built or improved and cities continue to grow. Education is improved and more educational buildings are built. Continues influencing Noto (Turn Two of Three) and accepted offer from Brunei. Continues improving relations and trading with all Japanese states, Korea, China, Ayutthaya and West European powers.
  • Joseon: The government-sponsored promotion of Confucian values, such obedience to the state, plus artistry, scholarship, and academic achievement; components of a good work ethic, continues to gain momentum. Neo-Confucianism, the official state ideology, continues to rapidly grow in popularity, with its ideals being harshly enforced in all sectors of society, not just the nobility. Education, specifically secondary and tertiary education, is continued to be highly encouraged and is now regarded as essential to join the higher ranks of society. In order to increase the supply of skilled labourers, tertiary education is now allowed for all sectors of society and the ability to read and write is continued to be taught to many people as possible. As adult literacy increases so does the number of printing presses, allowing the more rapid spread of knowledge and information. With the number of students surging, a boom in the construction of libraries, schools and universities begin. Large-scale mining activities in the North continue, supplying Southern industrial complexes with raw materials but also giving the Korean government a source of revenue to fund its modernisation programs. The construction of the third and fourth industrial complexes in Seoul and Pyongyang continue in an increasingly rapid pace, waterwheel-powered blast furnaces melting wrought and cast iron together are constructed, increasing the steel output drastically. While the majority of the produced steel is used as construction material, all surplus steel is used for strengthening weapons. Its navy increases its power as more ships, mostly based on Chinese models, are built, and the production of gunpowder weapons such as weaponised fireworks, guns, and cannons increases. In order to link the growing urban centres, canals and paved roads are built between them, easing the flow of goods for trade and commerce. Korea proposes a trade agreement with France, offering it to sell highly-sought Celadon porcelain in exchange for timber and agricultural produce. Trade with Brunei, the Ottomans, the Japanese, and the Portuguese continue surges, while trade with the Chinese drops. Korea increases military patrols in the Korean Sea, and expands 100 px into Manchuria, 15 px into Hokkaido, 100 px into Taiwan, and 50 px into Sakhalin.
  • Spain: Trade is going very well with our allies and in our colonies. The economy is continuing to try to be stable like it was before the war. The military continues to offer more jobs to the people of the nation. Ships continue to go around to different islands in the Caribbeans and continue to colonize them. The islands that are continuing to get colonized are the Cayman Islands, the Virgin Islands, Guadeloupe, Dominica, Martinique, St. Lucia, and Trinidad and Tobago. Rebuilding the nation is continuing with more jobs open for more people. More ships are continuing to be built in the shipping yards. Our markets flourish with many goods from our colonies. The building of more guns for the military goes along very well. Many of our top scientists are still trying to find a cure for all of our sickly colonists. Many doctors from the motherland leave for our colonies. Vaccines are being made by doctors from the University of Santo Tomás de Aquino. Now that the virus is spreading in Europe we start to keep the sickly in their  own areas in our nation.
    • Hispaniola: On the island, we continue to explore the inland forests. Along the coast of the island port cities are still developing. More ships are being built, so that we can send all the resources found on the island can be used by people in our home nation. Our troops try to work with the natives by trading with them to show that they are not taking advantage of the natives helping the colonists. Farms are beginning to get bigger with each year of planting. Monasteries are continuing to be built to convert the natives of the land to Christianity.
    • Cuba: On the island, we continue to explore the inland forests. Along the coast the island port cities are still developing. Farms are beginning to get bigger with each year of planting. Monasteries are continuing to be built to convert the natives of the land to Christianity.
    • New Spain: Exploration of the newly lands is still continuing. Small port villages are being made for trade purposes. We allow the natives to stay on our land but, they would have to help us build up the land and assimilate with us colonists. Churches pop up in many areas so we can convert the natives. We expand our colony both 100 px north, west and south.
    • Bermuda: Along the coast of the island port cities are still developing. More ships are being built, so that we can send all the resources found on the island can be used by people in our home nation. Colonists try to make a living on the uninhabitable island. Farms are beginning to get bigger with each year of planting. Monasteries are continuing to be built to convert the natives of the land to Christianity.

  • Somdet Phra Chairacha of Ayutthaya launches yet another surprise war, this time targetting the nation of Pegu to the northwest. First, the city of Martaban is seized, followed by a battle on the outskirts of Pegu. A medium-length siege of the capital city led to the capitulation of the Hanthawaddy king. The Ayutthayan navy is greatly expanded this year, with the intention of providing both greater trade power and strong military projection throughout Southeast Asia. In Ayutthaya, the King decides that all noble children should be educated in the sangha (monasteries) until the age of 16. This not only increases the power of the King over his vassals (as he controls their children), but also serves to create a more educated ruling class. The additional tribute from the Malay and Cambodian regions allow Ayutthaya to buy Malacca from Portugal, while promising exclusive access to that kingdom. Vassalization of Cheing Mai continues and colonial settlement of the Andamans adds 25 px to that colony. The Riau islands are also claimed and settled this year.
    • Ayutthayan Diplomacy: Considering the recent (albeit failed) attempt to conquer Pagaruyung, and the increasing presence of hostile Muslim Sultanates in Sumatra, Ayutthaya offers to defend Pagaruyung as a non-tributary protectorate. (NPC RESPONSE REQUIRED)
    • Pagaruyung agrees to the protectorate agreement with Ayutthaya.
  • Mutsu: Expands 15 px into Hokkaido. Mutsu continues to run into Hokkaido natives and starts trying to assimilate them into Mutsu culture. Gun production continues as the goal is met this year having 37,000 guns or enough to supply the army.
  • Benin: Benin continues to wage its counterattack against Songhai. Material support from France is funneled to the frontlines to assist in replenishing the forces of Benin, and supplies are sent by ship to the troops fighting in Senegal. Back home, seven additional small ships are built for the Imperial Navy of Benin. The census for Benin for the year of 1540 is held, and the report is given to the Oba. It counts a total of 14,509,488 total subjects in the empire, the majority of the growth coming from the newly acquired territory in Oyo. The total number of warriors is estimated to be about 200,000, while the number of sailing vessels in the navy totals 94 ships, not counting the riverine vessels of the navy. The expansion of the empire's road networks and infrastructure continues, with investment into the development of the nation, though pulled back in light of the war, continues under the Oba's close management of the public works throughout Benin. More than 70% of the population identifies as Catholic, delighting the Oba and his court. Expansion of the Catholic Church's grip in Benin continues, with the construction of many parish churches throughout the nation, and four major cathedrals in Edo, Eko, Mahin, and Oji-Ala, as well as several other planned cities in the nation. The Olorokun units in Cameroon continue their work of hunting for new slaves to sell to Europe, expanding the borders of Benin by 100 px into Cameroon, where thousands of tribal natives are rounded up in their villages, and sent off to the coast in chains to be sold into slavery from the city of Njos. The lack of communication between tribes and the swift nature of the Olorokun in the jungles, prevents the spread of information and warning of the Benin forces moving toward villages. Construction of the Imperial Palace in Edo continues, with the new wings of the palace under construction, while the palace gardens have been completed.
  • The Republic of the 14 United Netherlands: Trade is optimized, especially in Antwerpen and Rotterdam. The navy sustains our colonies, and is expanded. Exploration of South America has lead to the discovery of the OTL Falkland Islands. Exploration of Africa has lead to the discovery of the Congo and of Madagascar. Seeing our recent peace with Austria, we immedaitely begin recovering from the small war. The reentry into the HRE sees us gain more interest into relations with the German states. As such, we offer extensive trade to the PRINCE-BISHOPRIC OF BREMEN and the FREE CITY OF LÜBECK (MOD RESPONSE NEEDED FOR BOTH OF THEM).
    • Kaap de Goede Hoop: We expand by 20 px along the coast. We benefit from our trade with the Maputo. Governor Matthias Terhuisen enjoys his Maputo wife. We send missionaries to convert the Maputo.
    • Nieuw-Brussel: We continue trading with the natives, we expand by 75 px deeper into Bevereiland (OTL Long Island) and Johannes Verkaack is appointed governor of Nieuw-Brussel.
    • Both Lübeck and Bremen accept the Dutch offer. (Rexmod)
  • Brunei:The Sultan continues to invest heavily in the navy, using trade networks with the Ottomans and the Japanese, the Sultan begins building more connections. More administrative reforms are caried out, further centralizing the Bruneian empire. More meetings with tribes begin/ The Borneans offer vast sums of gold (although the existance of new mines is kept secret), spices, and trade offers in return for this act of kindness. The Sultan announces that this year, as all Sunni Muslims must in their lifetime, be partaking in the haaj pilgrimage to Mecca and Medina, leaving his brother in charge as a viceroy. While in Ottoman lands, he also plans to meet with the Sultan of Sutlans to discuss further trade policies and other matters, incuding a potential trade treaty. Exploreres are sent out to map the inside of Borneo and look for possible exploitable resources. A small settlement is also set up on the Island of Palawan. The Road network continues to be built, and the navy modernized. The Annual tributes are received, but our Sultan decides that it is not only these nations money he wants, but also their total obedience, and for that he needs trade with the west ... population growth is encourages throughout the empire, with small tax benefits to larger families. Emissaries are sent out to the land of Siak in order to inquire if the uninhabited islands of Pulau Rupat, Pulau Bengakiis, Palau Pedang, Pulau Tebingtinggi, Pulau Rangsang, Pulau Mendol, and Pulau Lingga can be purchased. (NPC RESPONSE REQUIRED)
    • Kingdom of Maynilla: The Kingdom of Maynilla continues to increase its wealth through trade. Missionaries are sent out into Tondo to convert the people. Great plans are made for Tondo, great plans indeed.
    • Siak refuses to sell the strategically vital islands for any price.
  • Kazakh Khanate: Burat Khagan continues to study the weapons from the Ottoman Empire, as they become part of the army. The use of cannon also become more frequent among the Kazakhs. The Khagan lower the taxes, hoping that that will bring merchants into his realm. Finally, the Khagan decides that he is unwilling to sell his lands to Russia, although he is open for negotiation with the Tsar, since he clearly understands the situation of his nation.

In Ostland, the Polish Duke is suddenly overthrown by a young Latvian noble, Ilgvars Saktins. Saktins, with the support of the Ostlander population, launches a revolt against the Polish nobility, replacing local lords with Latvian and Estonian lords. He appeals to the pope that he is a devout Catholic, and the pope recognizes Saktins as the new Duke of Livonia.

Ostland, which was given to Poland many turns ago, was a Pomeranian possession before, I doubt that that Poland would have accepted this and its Polish nobility not German see here. ~Wrto12

Thank you, event updated accordingly. -Rexmod

Which Polish Duke? Sigsmund- TGH

A record-setting heat wave strikes Europe from May to November. The Rhine, Seine and Danube are all dried out by the time rain returns in late winter, causing crop shortages and mass famine. Thousands die of starvation and from the lack of clean water.

After an exhausting and hard-fought war, many disenfranchised Beninese warrior, not convinced by their King’s conversion to Christianity, abandon their flag and march on the city of Abakwa. The insurgents have soon set up a restored animist realm spanning from Limbe to Njos to Ewondo.

A local Somali warlord, Cadceed Hanad, declares Mogadishu independent of Omani influence. The local naval garrison is commandeered and Ibadi mosques quickly reverted to Sunni Islam. To emphasize his point, the local Omani viceroy is brutally beheaded, and the severed head is sent to the Omani Sultan.

The teachings of John Calvin are spread from Geneva to Lyon, where calvinistes spread the reformed Evangelical message in droves. The response of the French and Swiss governments will have a large impact on the development of this faith in the coming years.

Compulsory education schemes, such as those in the Ottoman Empire and Aceh, lead to massive economic hardships in these countries as child labor is reduced drastically and agriculture suffers as a result.

  • Brunswick-Lüneburg: the rebuilding of Brunswick-Gottingen continues. Duke Julius, impressed by the action of his reorganized military in the Erfutian War, he orders the casting of cannons for the army.
  • Empire of the Great Ming: The Emperor installs a new Pro-Chinese Korean King into the former Joseon and declares it the Chu Dynasty. It is installed into our tributary system with Chinese troops still occupying certain major cities for five additional years (ten years for Hanseong) as the interim government makes adjustments.
  • Aceh Sultanate: In response to the recent economic downturn due to our institution of compulsory education, we encourage women and girls to work in agriculture to replace the missing boys. We also make changes to the curriculum establishing the imperative to choose a speciality early in schooling. These include Agriculture, Business, Diplomacy, Education, Finance, Public Service, Law, Medicine, Mining, and Military Service (in military academies) among others. Agriculture and Mining become the most popular of these career tracks. Meanwhile, expansion of the military continues, as does that of the population. The incentives for motherhood become very popular, with more women producing children, making birthrates skyrocket. Our population growth rate is currently X% per annum (MODS, PLEASE GIVE ME A GOOD PERCENTAGE TO USE.). We place more emphasis on agriculture so that the food supply can be bolstered. We ask neighbouring countries for help, including Brunei and Ayutthaya, promising to compensate them when times become better. To further combat this grave crisis, we reduce the amount of time a week students have to be at school, from six days to four. This will allow boys to stay at home and work on the farms to alleviate the famine.
    • Diplomacy: We present various gifts to the leaders of Europe, including our best and sweetest durians and exotic Sumatran jewellery, in the hopes of establishing friendly relations with Europe. We do the same with those of other countries in Asia, including the Ottoman Empire and China. Our representatives in these countries also look to further our understanding of technology and industry, in the hopes of improving our chances of claiming regional superiority at home.
    • Mod: You are in the middle of a famine due to your education policies (and really none of those disciplines is applicable for the mainstream population in the 1500s). Your birthrate is effectively zero, if not negative. When your children are starving, no kind of incentive will encourage you to have more.
    • Okay. I will edit my turn accordingly.
  • Maguindanao: Sultan Shariff Kabungsuwan continues to spread Islam throughout his realm and continues to centralize his government creating various roads and appointing administrators to run various cities: Maguindanao expands 20 px north on Mindanao. We also expand our navy by ten ships. We send ships to various islands to explore nearby islands and find trade routes. We send emmisaries to Brunei and Ayuttha and ask them for trade agreements. We begin to sponsor slave raids on northern islands and sponsor our first one this year conducting it one Cebu Mod Response.
    • Ayutthaya: Accepts the Maguindanao trade deal.
    • Brunei: Accepts trade deal.
  • Benin: Outraged by the treason of his warriors, Oba Xadreque flies into a fit of rage, and withdraws to the palace chapel grounds to seclude himself in light of the heretical behavior of the traitors. His youngest son, Nazario, the Archbishop of Benin, takes hold of the rest of the warriors of the Imperial Army, while his elder brother, Xadreque II, assumes the throne temporarily for their father. Nazario declares the treasonous warriors beyond redemption, and to liberate the God-fearing Edo Christians in the rebelling lands from their oppressors. He declares a crusade against the warriors, rallying 60,000 Christian warriors to his cause, pleading with them that they remember his father's works on their behalf, and punish the traitors who dared turn against both their Oba and their God. Marching out from Edo, the 60,000-strong army, equipped with 45 cannon, move to punish the heathen traitors. The Imperial Navy blockades the ports of Limbe and Njos, and bombard the rebel garrisons in the two cities. Elsewhere, ever diligent in their duties, the Olorokun continues to march deeper into the jungle, expanding the borders of Benin by 100 px. They have yet to receive word of the rebellion back home, but continue with their goal of catching more slaves and Christianizing the natives who have proven themselves willing to accept the One True Faith.
    • You can't just Christianise millions of Beninese without facing some resistance. Plus, don't you like turn all non-Christians into slaves? Yeah, that would probably turn them against you and render your Christianisation attempts useless.
    • As I told Dax, there is no historical evidence showing that Christization ever produced a major rebellion. Even during the Reconquista, forced conversions were common, but never resulted in a major uprising. The only times such backlashes against Christianity took place were when the nobles were behind them. In Madagascar, the only reason Christians were attacked was because the royals feared the threat to their power that the Church presented, and they ordered their people to resist the efforts of the missionaries. So I Christianize until it hurts, and there is no example in OTL where the conversions of the Church ever resulted in open rebellion. ~Viva
  • Chu Dynasty: With the former Yi family ousted from power and its members sent into house arrest, a family of conservative, pro-Chinese Korean nobles are installed as the new royal family. The new royal family is extremely unpopular with the general populace whilst relatively popular with the older, conservative Korean nobility. With much of the royal family’s power weakened due to their general unpopularity, a power struggle between members of the military and nobility emerges, resulting in regionalisation and the decentralisation of political power. The government-sponsored promotion of Confucian values, such obedience to the state, plus artistry, scholarship, and academic achievement; components of a good work ethic, continues to gain momentum. Neo-Confucianism, the official state ideology, continues to rapidly grow in popularity, with its ideals being harshly enforced in all sectors of society. In order to increase the amount of skilled white-collar workers, higher-level education is highly encouraged (it is now regarded as essential to join the higher ranks of society) and the ability to read and write is continued to be taught to many commoners as possible. As the level of literacy increases so does the number of printing presses, enabling the more rapid spread of knowledge and information. With the number of students surging, a boom in the construction of libraries, schools, and universities begins. Following destruction caused by the recent conflict with China, as well as the Chinese occupation of major industrial centres, many gains since the start of the modernisation program are lost. In an effort to regain lost economic capacity, the rapid construction of four new industrial complexes (situated in Busan, Daegu, Bucheon, and Kaesong) begin at an unprecedented pace, with built waterwheel-powered blast furnaces melting wrought and cast iron together. The output of metal products increases rapidly, as demand surges. The priority for now is to regain industrial output to levels seen prior to the war, as well as to rebuild essential infrastructure; so, most produced metal products is devoted to construction. Large-scale mining activities in the North continue uninterrupted, supplying the Southern industrial complexes with a steady supply of raw materials but also giving the Korean government a source of revenue to fund its reconstruction and modernisation programs. Korea proposes a trade agreement with France, offering it to sell highly-sought Celadon porcelain in exchange for timber and agricultural produce. Trade with Brunei, the Ottomans, the Japanese, the Chinese, the Malays, and the Portuguese continue. Korea increases military patrols in the Korean Sea, and expands its territory 100 px into Manchuria, 15 px into Hokkaido, 100 px into Taiwan, and 50 px into Sakhalin.
  • Demak Sultanate: We begin building our military to a total of 40,000 troops. We forcefully convert our subjects to Islam. We begin to incorporate our kingdom into the vast structures that the Majapahit left behind. We also raid all valuables like gold and silver from their temples. We will also begin to make a navy by building more frigates to put the total amount at 60. After losing to the Pajajaran. We look to find allies in the region specifically Tulang Bawang and Aceh Sultanate. (NPC RESPONSE REQUIRED)
    • As word of the raids on Buddhist temples reach Ayutthaya, King Chairacha demands all gold and silver be sent to a Buddhist state instead of being retained by the Sultanate. We are willing to ally with Demak provided they (a) protect all Buddhists in their realm and stop forced conversions, and (b) send all raided temple material to Ayutthaya.
  • Spain: Trade is going very well with our allies and in our colonies. The economy is continuing to try to be stable like it was before the war. The military continues to offer more jobs to the people of the nation. Ships continue to go around to different islands in the Caribbean and continue to colonize them.

    • Puerto Rico: Along the coast of the island port cities are still developing. More ships are being built so that we can send all the resources found on the island can be used by people in our home nation. Our troops try to work with the natives by trading with them to show that they are not taking advantage of the natives helping the colonists. Farms are beginning to get bigger with each year of planting. Monasteries are continuing to be built to convert the natives of the land to Christianity.

We allow the natives to stay on our land but, they would have to help us build up the land and assimilate with us colonists. Churches pop up in many areas so we can convert the natives. We expand our colony both 100 px north and 100 px east.
    • Bissagos: Exploration of the lands is still continuing. Small port villages are being made for trade purposes. We allow the natives to stay on our land but, they would have to help us build up the land and assimilate with us colonists. Churches pop up in many areas so we can convert the natives. We expand our colony both 100 px east and 100 px south.
    • This turn is 100% similar - that's right, identical! - to your previous turn. You have until the start of 1542 to fix this or you will be suspended for two turns. -Rexmod
  • Bohemia: We continue to recruit 2500 troops whilst more recruitment per year is continued to plan its progress. Bohemia decides a new plan for the exploration, although Bohemia wouldn't much indeed plan to send explorers exploring America. More construction is in progress at the capital city of Prague, and we plan to build cities in Bohemia, and hoping to increase more relations with other HRE states as much as possible.
Finishes influencing Noto (Turn Three of Three) and is now annexed into Ashikaga Japan as the fifth daimyo. Continues improving relations and trading with all Japanese states, Korea, China, Ayutthaya and West European powers. The Ashikaga Japanese army is largest and its population becomes one of most populated states in Japan.
    • Mutsu Dip: We don't trade with you - just so you know.
    • MOD: Vassalization takes at least five years, and an algorithm. Please add a vassalization algorithm to the talk page for mod approval so we can approve your efforts to influence Noto, and any future vassalization attempts.
    • It's highly debatable whether you have the largest army, and likewise for the population.
    • He undoubtedly has the largest population. He's situated in the Kantō Plain, Japan's historical population center.
  • Angu: The conglomerate continues rapid development with the Namton A'fao having read a large part of the Portuguese political books and the trade, including the gold trade has great effect on the Angan economy.
  • Kingdom of Mutapa: We continue our northerly expansion (20 px into OTL Angola) and we continue to build up our ports on the coast near the Portuguese colonies in OTL Moçambique. We ask the Portuguese and the Dutch to spare any technology they can. (Need Player Response) We also invest in agricultural enterprises throughout the kingdom. We allow the missionaries to come into the kingdom, but we send them home with a message stating don't return.
    • Please respond to my sending missionaries.
  • The Republic of the 14 United Netherlands: Trade is optimized, especially in Antwerpen and Rotterdam. The navy sustains our colonies, and is expanded. Our recent discoveries have led to the exploration of the Congo region. Admiral Pieter Kaasdorp arrives on the island of Ceylon, arriving at the Port City of Colombo, where he meets with the natives. He tries to convince them to establish a trade agreement. The nation has seen major progress and we notice this in economy, technology and in military. Erasmus reaches the age of 74 this year and falls ill. Realizing his end is nearing, he begins positioning his student Jakob Milich as his successor. Due to Erasmus's illness, our council comes together again, to prepare for the upcoming decision. Like before they visit the Dutch universities and lords. Most of these express their support for Milich, who they see as an extension of Erasmus's rule.
    • Kaap de Goede Hoop: We expand by 20 px along the coast (10 px to each side of the colony). We benefit from our trade with the Maputo. Governor Matthias Terhuisen enjoys his Maputo wife. We send missionaries to convert the Maputo, hoping to get even closer bonds with them through religion, like we did with Benin.
    • Nieuw-Brussel: We continue trading with the natives, we expand by 75 px deeper into Bevereiland (OTL Long Island) and Johannes Verkaack is still governor of Nieuw-Brussel. We offer trade to the Cherokee nation to our west.
  • Vijayanagara: We begin a period of isolationism. We begin to build forts along our northern border and then we plan to build some on the coast. We sign a non-aggression pact with any nation who wants one. We build our economy and open trade with anybody. We plan to build our infrastructure in the future. We also begin to build schools in population areas, hopefully there will be more clever people in the future of the nation. During the week, they have school from Monday to Friday and they learn Mathematics, History, Modern Foreign Languages, Technology, Science, Geography and Religious Education.
  • Poland-Lithuania: His Royal Highness, Sigismund I initiates a Royal Decree to attempt to negotiate with the rebelling forces while simultaneously ordering a mobilization on the Armed Forces. However, he asks the pope to no longer recognise the Livion Duke. Members of the Polish Aristocracy demand to crush the rebels while Senators disagree and quarrel at the same time. Many Senators begin to pressure the King and chaos corrupts the Senate, her Majesty Queen Bona convinces Sigsmund to briefly dissolve the Senate. Large taxation is emplaced on the Serfs, many starve. However, Aristocrats continue to feast. In cities like Kravkov begin to home large amount of Serfs. Almost 20% of the population do not get the life needs, however, more prosperous areas grow and grow and "The Polish Renaissance" dawns after large influence from the Queen. A new schooling system is created modeled on the Ancient Greek Curriculum. German, Polish, Math and Religious studies are taught, causing a 0.9% increase of Literacy. St Florians Church is expanded and refurbished. Envoys are sent to the Ottoman Sultan to try to broker a temporary peace treaty.
  • England: The size of the Royal Navy stands at 35 ships. The Crown begins to look into heavy cannon for its ships. The Crown Colony of the King Henry Islands (Virgin Islands), known as the Henry Islands, expands onto several of the neighboring islands. Despite the legal movement toward the evangelical movement, English theology remains close to Catholicism. Thomas Cranmer, the Archbishop of Canterbury, works toward the introduction of new ideas and the removal of commonly disparaged Catholic ideas. Meanwhile, Cromwell continues to push the translation of the Bible into Irish Gaelic and its spread in Ireland. The Crown continues to encourage trade with the continent as well as the use of modern weaponry, purchasing handguns and exploring artillery. With the recent turmoil in Germany and the the alliance with Russia, English merchants begin extended trade along Hanseatic lanes in Germany and Russia. The Crown emphasizes more trade with the Netherlands and Russia. The Prince of Wales has a daughter, Princess Catherine. Clergymen are removed from the House of Lords, with the exception of archbishops and bishops.
    • Calais: The fortifications at Calais are built up. Some of the new English ships are stationed at Calais. Calais acts as an economic trade link between the continent and England and is used to usurp trade from the Hansa. The Crown
    • Ireland: The Irish Gaelic Bible is distributed in Ireland pursuant with the Crown's policy. The Crown continues to sponsor the construction of new infrastructure and roads in Ireland. The Crown begins to consider an invasion of Ulster.
  • France: This year, henry has a son, called Oliver. However, he lets Charles of France, his brother, as the Duke of Naples, because Charles is not the heir, he will be replaced as soon as Oliver is old enough. Meanwhile, the military, particularly the Navy is strengthened. We start active shipbuilding in our various ports, hoping to create as many as 15 new naval ships a year. These ships will be used for further exploration and colonization. Children of any Christian religion from the ages of 6-12 are allowed to enrol. This year, We start a new colony on the Straits of Eischens called ‘’’New Paris.’’’ This colony will be initially be dedicated to exploration of the sStraits of Eischens, but later we hope to develop it. We also re-establish exploration across Africa, with a voyage landing at the southern end of the continent.
    • New Paris: This colony is currently mostly made up of a port, as well as a few small outlying villages. A voyage from this colony makes it all they way through the Straits of Eischens, discovering a relatively well developed civilization on the side. Trade is opened with this civilization, who call themselves the Inca.
    • Oliver is not a name of French royalty. Potential names include Francis, Francis, Francis, Francis, Henry, Henry, Henry, Henry, Philip, Philip, Jean, Charles, Charles, Charles, Charles, Louis, Louis, Louis, and Louis.
  • Brunei: The Bornean Sultan returns from his pilgrimage with great news of trade and prosperity. He endeavours to reform his nation to be more like the Ottomans, seeing their great progress, and being most impressed with the city of Constantinople. As such, he also wishes to begin trade with western powers, and sends out an emissary to the Portuguese colony of Malacca in order to negotiate trade as well. However, the biggest western trade partner remains the Ottomans. Centralization continues, as the country is divided into districts led by a civil and military governor. Vast swaths of land are cleared of timber and reserved for agriculture, and the Imperial guard is left to enforce this peace. This excess agricultural land is laid down in order to increase the food supply, and therefore encourage a rise in the birth rate. The State school sees great success, and the positions of civil governors are restricted to their graduates. A separate school, the Military School of Brunei, is founded for those wishing to become officers in the Military. As part of the Curriculum, they are required to Read Sun Tzu's Art of War and books about great Western Military commanders such as Alexander the Great of Macedon and Julius Ceasar, learned about through books brought back from the Ottoman empire, with various other famous eastern and western generals. Once again, admittance is essentially limited to the wealthy. When the plans come to fruition, each military district will have its own District Guard, commanded by the Military governor, and responsible for maintaining peace and security. A census is scheduled for next year. Negotiations continue with Siak for the purchase of several uninhabited islands in the Straits of Malacca: Pulau Rupat, Pulau Bengakiis, Palau Pedang, Pulau Tebingtinggi, Pulau Rangsang, Pulau Mendol, and Pulau Lingga. (MOD RESPONSE NEEDED FOR NPC)
    • Kingdom of Maynilla: Continues to grow its navy. Maynilla as a city begins to grow. More missionaries sent out to convet pagans.
    • There was a mod response last turn, which reads: "Siak refuses to sell the strategically vital islands for any price."
  • Labelled 1541 Ayutthaya
In Ayutthaya, the nation works to consolidate its different populations. King Chairacha, already established as a great conqueror, must now prove himself as a great unifier. Noting the greatest challenge is linguistic, he assembles a council of Thai, Khmer, Malay, and Burmese scholars to create a single unifying language for his people. Chairacha does leave some important instructions, however, as the new language must be written in the Latin script that dominates trade and must incorporate the Portuguese verb forms, while abandoning the phonetic basis for most of the other languages. The national navy is expanded, using Burmese lumber for much of the supplies and incorporating gunfire principles learned from the West. The use of black African slaves continues, which allows regular Ayutthayan workers to be more productive. Additional wealth pours in from the purchase of Malacca. A road system is envisioned by a leading engineer to connect Ayutthaya to Angkor, an important route that is hard to reach by sea. A military expedition is sent to the island of Borneo, or Gor Bornieow, which conquers the village of Pontianak and establishes a new settlement on that island. Construction is set to begin next year. Vassalization of Cheing Mai continues, and colonial settlement in the Andamaans grows by 25 px.

Scar is currently suspended for two turns from Spain due to copy/paste violations. Don’t let yourself be next!

Just to inform you, I would like to quit the game since I am bored of the game itself and life is busy too. Reason I just copied and pasted the turns was, because I had writers block and no new ideas. I just can't seem to find to ideas to write about the game and it got me bored. - Scar

Disturbed by Benin’s expansionist behavior and heathen religion, Borgu, Nupe, Igala, and Ife band together in the Pact of Maradi, promising mutual assistance of in the event of a war between any member and Benin.

Just wanted to let you know that Oyo was conquered by Benin just a few years ago. ~Viva
Thank you, updated. -Rexmod

Continued insistence upon compulsory education in nations like Aceh, France, and the Ottomans only exacerbate the problems of last year (the European drought and Acehnese famine). Starvation is rampant, and the peasantry begin to flout the idea of rebellion to conquer the food that the nobles are still enjoying.

Read my turns, my education system is optional not mandatory. ~Fires
Just a little nitpick, but droughts are natural disasters, when soil does not produce crops. Famines are shortages of food. Famines can happen because of droughts, or despite perfect crop conditions (due to human policies). Droughts are never man-made, Famines can be.

The mysterious boil-borne illness that had spooked southern France since the late 1530s sparks mass conversion to the ecclesiastical movement of Calvin as a confirmed case of death emerges in Toulouse. Many superstitious French take this as a sign that God has turned his back upon the Catholic King Henry.

  • Aceh: Desperate to retain compulsory education for the sake of the future, but wishing to appease the populace, the Sultan introduces a rationing system, applicable to everyone including himself and his family. All current stores of food are to be divided into portions to be spread equally among the population. Meanwhile, graduates from Aceh's schools are immediately put to work in their respective specialities. Due to the vast number of agricultural students, a large new population of farmers (with prior work experience), begins work on the numerous farms in the country. A few new ones are also established, relieving the famine thanks to an increase in production. We plead for aid from Brunei, Ayutthaya and the Ottoman Empire, and we promise to compensate them for their help when our circumstances get better or when they themselves fall on hard times. The peasantry is urged to be as efficient as they can, and the government searches for other ways to relieve this most pressing crisis. Meanwhile, we follow Ayutthaya's example and begin looking into Latinising our language, replacing the Jawi script currently used.
    • Ayutthaya: Agrees to relieve all Acehnese food needs with our rice surpluses in exchange for the island of Sabang.
    • Acehnese Diplomacy: Increasingly desperate, our government agrees to the purchase of Sabang and gives those inhabiting the island the choice of moving to the mainland or becoming subjects of Ayutthaya. (MOD RESPONSE REQUIRED) We thank Ayutthaya for their generosity. With the famine ended by Ayutthayan foreign aid, we begin to rebuild our population and economy. Having learned from our previous mistakes of abruptly establishing compulsory education, we slowly transition back to full-time schooling, with children returning to school for four days every week. Next year they will be there for five days and then six the year after that. This will allow farms time to adjust to the change, thus preventing a huge drop in productivity. We also use some of the food provided to us by the Ayutthayans as seed crop, planting them for more produce. When times get better and our population has recovered enough, we will reinstate the motherhood incentive program.
    • Mod: Most inhabitants decide to remain in their ancestral homeland, but a few up-and-coming Acehnese leaders decide  to relocate to Kutaraja.
  • Ottomans: Suleiman the Magnificent ends the system of compulsorary education, and instead offers anyone who so desires to enter the Universities. Seeing the recent famine cut through the Empire, the alchemist Jabir Al-Dameshq observes the continued failure of agriculture in the Middle East, and begins experimenting with ways of optimizing crop development known OTL as the three-crop system.
Continues influencing Noto (Turn Four of Five). Continues improving relations and trading with other Japanese states, Korea, China, Ayutthaya and West European powers.
    • We will still need to see a vassalization algorithm for Noto to become a vassal in five years; it would end up taking as much as 75 years if there is no algo. -Rexmod
  • Ayutthaya continues to integrate the Khmer, Johor, and Pegu peoples. The work on a new language continues, and proves more difficult than originally conceived by Chairacha. The king, who is more interested in war than peace, launches a surprise attack against Siak from both across the Straits and from our protectorate in Pagaruyung. The invading forces move swifly and quickly defeat the enemy navy and seize its capital at Siak. Our colony in the Nicobars increases by 25 px. The outpost at Pontianak sees an influx of new traders and settlers, and the military expedition expands that settlment by 100 px, primarily to the north. Influence over Cheing Mai continues, with negotiations for vassalization fast approaching.
    • Korean Dip: We would like to establish trading relations.
    • Ayutthaya happily agrees to open trading relations with Korea.
  • Yi dynasty/Joseon: A coup d’état led by General Kim Tae Min occurs in Hanseong and the surrounding urban areas, gaining heavy support. During the following weeks, a considerable amount of people abandon their work to travel to major urban areas, declaring support for the military coup and demanding China to pull out of Korea. A mass purge in pro-Chinese Korean nobility begin, with their financial assets confiscated and used to fund these anti-Chinese protests. After a month, Hanseong, now renamed Seoul as a symbol of Korean “rebirth”, is captured. The Yi family is re-installed and the Chu family is sent into exile in Hamhung. Korea, now knowing the mistake of “premature aggressiveness”, begins to pursue the somewhat isolationist policy of “To hide, to release”, severing all ties with China and Japan and beginning the construction of a wall in the Sino–Korean border to block the influx of ethnic Chinese. In order to increase the amount of skilled workers, higher-level education is highly encouraged (it is now regarded as essential to join the higher ranks of society) and the ability to read and write is continued to be taught to many commoners as possible. As the level of literacy increases so does the number of printing presses, enabling the more rapid spread of knowledge and information. The number of students continue to surge, resulting in a boom in the construction of libraries, schools, and universities continues. The rapid construction of four new industrial complexes (situated in Busan, Daegu, Bucheon, and Kaesong) continues at an unprecedented pace, with built waterwheel-powered blast furnaces melting wrought and cast iron together. The output of metal products continues to increase rapidly. Even though economic output is returning to “normal” levels, the priority still remains to increase production by increasing the amount of industrial infrastructure, as a result, most produced metal products are reserved as construction material. Large-scale mining activities in the North continue, supplying the Southern industrial complexes with a steady supply of raw materials but also giving the Korean government a source of income to fund its reconstruction and modernisation programs. Trade with Brunei, the Ottomans, the Malays, and the Portuguese continue. Korea increases military patrols in the Korean Sea to secure its national security, and expands its territory 100 px into Manchuria, 15 px into Hokkaido, 100 px into Taiwan, and 50 px into Sakhalin.
  • Archduchy of Austria: With the treaty of Berlin being signed, the HRE religious war officially ends (like it ended en years ago, but I couldn't post due to the algo not been made and the treaty not being signed), Austria gains Hesse and Württemberg as vassals. Emperor Ferdinand I begins to consolidate his rule over the Holy Roman Empire. Emperor Ferdinand I makes many efforts in order to secure clean water and food for his subjects. In order to rule better over his vassals, in this times of crisis, Burggraffschaft, Burgau, Oettingen and Württemberg are directly incorporated into the Archduchy of Austria. A new HRE tax is introduced, all HRE states are slightly taxed, in order to find the resources necessary to secure clean water and food for the citizens of the whole HRE. However, some food is a little unfairly distributed, with the oppoments of the regime, clearly out of personal interest, imply that the people living inside the Archduchy of Austria and its vassals are being a little favored towards citizens of other HRE states. Extensive efforts are made by Emperor Ferdinand I to predict when the farming output will reach its pre-drought levels. With the rivers and our lakes filling up with water again, many efforts are made to increase fishing our rivers and our lakes, in order to produce more food, while their water is used to increase farming output. Schools and Universities are also opened, but they are mostly for nobles or rich people, as they have high fees.
    • Kingdom of Hungary: King Loius II addresses the crisis as Emperor Ferdinand I does, while although being outside the HRE, he sends some aid to Austria.
    • Landgraviate of Hesse: Addresses the crisis the same way the Archduchy of Austria does.
    • Duchy of Luxemburg: Addresses the crisis the same way the Archduchy of Austria does.
    • Austrian Diplomacy: We ask our ally Poland-Lithuania to supply us with food and clean water, as they are not effected so much by the drought and the following crisis. Emperor Ferdinand I asks the states of the HRE to grant him special powers over the HRE, in order to be able to lessen the effects of the drought and famine, to stabilize the HRE and keep the nobles and the upper classes safe from peasant uprisings and rebellions that could happen to depose them, due to the lower classes of the whole Holy Roman Empire are now starving and are becoming increasingly dangerous (MOD RESPONSE). A secret meeting of the most wealthy individuals of the HRE with the Emperor Ferdinand I is made in Vienna, where the Emperor does plea them, for the sake of their common interests, that is stability over the HRE and to lessen the risk of HRE-wide peasant rebellions, which is a threat for every HRE citizen, the more so for wealthy individuals, to pressure every way they can and exert their influence over their lords, in their respective states to accept its proposal of Emperor Ferdinand I gaining special powers over the HRE, for their own and their families sake. (MOD RESPONSE)
    • The states request that Ferdinand I specifies these powers, although they are not keen on empowering the Emperor either way.
    • Austrian Diplomacy: Emperor Ferdinand I asks to be in charge of the HRE wide efforts for garthering clean water and food from the states and distributing it equally, in order to stabilize the HRE and reduce the potential risk of peasant revolts and quelling any (peasant) rebellions inside the HRE that undermine its stability as a whole, while also aiming to re-establish stability European wide.
    • The states agree to grant this temporary power to the Emperor whilst there is still a lack of clean water and food, but declare that these extra powers will be revoked once the situation is not critical anymore
  • Vijayanagara: We continue our period of isolationism. We continue to build defences on our northern border and we encourage trade with European powers. We make it law so that every child from the age of seven to 16 has an education and theres a choice of further education from 16 to 18 and university at 18 to 21 or 22. We build our economy and infrastructure. We build more hospitals, schools and universities. We also build some roads to connect the country. We stay neutral in foreign affairs. We begin to be self sufficient than rather than relying on other nations for our stuff.
  • Benin: The traitors in the central regions of Benin are attacked by the forces of the Archbishop, and their holdings destroyed as they are overwhelmed by the Imperial Army of Benin. The Church urges the people to rise up against their occupiers and to defy them wherever they may be. With Church encouraging rebellion against the animist warriors, the traitors lack the support needed to hold territory within the empire, and are forced out of the cities and into the open land, where the Imperial Army awaits them. In a series of pitched battles, most of the animists are slain to a man, where overwhelming numbers and firepower decimate the treasonous forces. While the loyalists clean up the remaining forces and hunt down the survivors, the Oba is encouraged by his sons to return to public life, which he does once he is notified of the defeat of the traitors. He declares a year of feasting for his subjects, and celebrates the unity of the realm under Christianity, forever solidifying its place in Benin society and culture. In the halls of the Imperial Palace, however, the Uzama is convened by the Oba and the Edaiken (crown prince), to discuss the matter of this so-called "Pact of Maradi". The Iyasu notes that the alliance is a threat to Benin's supremacy in the region, and that with the recent defeat of Songhai, the alliance may make a move on Benin so as to fulfill the role of counterweight to Benin's military power in West Africa. The Oba questions the wisdom of a first-strike on the alliance so soon after having to wipe out 15,000 traitorous warriors, and the Iyasu declares that it must be done for the security of the realm. Spies sent out in the last few months following the pact's formation, have returned with reports on the estimated population and size of their combined military forces. They report that the alliance has no more than three million inhabitants, and a combined military force of 100,000 warriors. They urge an immediate invasion of the Pact of Maradi, their words reinforced by the urging of the Iyasu and Edaiken. The threat of the pagans to the north exploiting the distraction of the empire during a major heresy is deemed too great for Benin to ignore, and the Archbishop of Benin, upon returning to Edo, decides that it is his responsibility to bring the Word of God to these wayward savages to the north. Reinforcing his 60,000 troops with the rest of the Imperial Guard of 15,000 men, as well as 50,000 warriors drawn from the lands of Benin proper, he marches his forces against the alliance, seeking to put an end to the threat they pose once and for all. For too long has Benin tolerated their heathen ways, and now the time has come for them to bow their knee to the Christ.
  • Angu: The Angan peoples' modernization carries on with the infrastructure now being the most extensive one on the island. The commerce expands with Portuguese aid and Koito finally has a son with one of his concubines.
  • The Republic of the 14 United Netherlands: Trade is optimized, especially in Antwerpen and Rotterdam. The navy sustains our colonies, and is expanded. Our recent discoveries have led to the exploration of the Congo region. Admiral Kaasdorp sails with the natives to Kotte, the capital of the Kotte Kingdom. There he has an audience with the king of Kotte, with whom he seeks to reach a trade agreement. (MODS RESPOND, PLEASE).  The nation has seen major progress and we notice this in economy, technology and in military. Desiderius Erasmus passes away two days after turning 75. The council convenes and appoints Jakob Milich as the new stadhouder of the Netherlands.
    • Kaap de Goede Hoop: We expand by 20 px along the coast (10 px to each side of the colony). We benefit from our trade with the Maputo. Governor Matthias Terhuisen continues to enjoy his Maputo wife. We send missionaries to convert the Maputo, hoping to get even closer bonds with them through religion, like we did with Benin (JB, RESPOND, PLEASE)
    • Nieuw-Brussel: We continue trading with the natives, we expand by 75 px deeper into Bevereiland (OTL Long Island) and Johannes Verkaack is still governor of Nieuw-Brussel. We offer trade to the Cherokee nation to our west(NLEN RESPOND, PLEASE).
  • Kazakh Khanate: Burat Khagan continues to incorporate Ottoman cannon in his army in an attempt to modernize it, which he has been trying to do since his ascension to the rank of Khan. He also lessens the laws on trade and exchanges, hoping to boost the economy of the Khanate.

An Austrian astronomer, Jens Hallander, publishes a treatise entitled On the Revolutions of the Celestial Spheres, suggesting and providing evidence for the heliocentric theory. The idea spreads throughout Europe like wildfire, but the pope rejects the idea as heretical. He demands Hallander be presented to his court in Rome by the Holy Roman Emperor (player response required).

Leader of the Evangelical movement, which has largely gone underground, Martin Luther, publishes a treatise entitled On the Jews and Their Lies. Catholics and Evangelicals alike begin terrorizing local Jewish communities, who look for a new home to live - and store - their substantial wealth.

  • Tsardom of Russia: With the situation spiralling out of control on the Zhytomyr-Crimea border the Russian military stands on alert not just against potential Crimean retribution but also against the newly rising Cossack host which stands to be extremely threatening to all parties in the area. Raising a force of nearly 100,000 the Russian Tsar now in old age marches towards Zhytomyr and organizes his army for a coming conflict in the area. In other new the Russian state continues its advancement East and expands by 3000 px through Siberia with many river exploration missions going underway with hundreds of Cossack explorers and other forces setting up forts and establishing major deals with the local tribes and settlements for fur tribute. The Fur trade through siberia has begun to become a major profit driver for the Russians as the various merchant families begin to invest heavily into further establishing bases in Siberia with Ekatinburg and Perm becoming the major hubs of Siberian trade back into Russia. The City of Ektarinburg especially advances with the total areas population at roughly 30,000 and the city itself having reached 20,000 with more and more people taking up mining jobs, fur jobs, and lumber jobs as well as various farming jobs which have begun to spring up. The Russian economy continues to advance as new mining and other institutions take hold. The New Farming territory in Southern Russia around Tsaritsyn shows great improvement as well as population growth with thousands moving into the area. The Russian population reaches 11.67 million and growing.
    • Minsk: The Principality of Minsk continues to show prolific agricultural growth as more settlement of farmers and ethnic russians occurs throughout the territory. The Belarussian fields become a huge agricultural producer and in general help field a massive surplus for Russia and the Surrounding area. The Russian ethnic population in Minsk increases to 60,000 and growing with the population of the whole area reaching 640,000. The Principality also shows more assimilation of the locals with the Belarussian peoples beginning to see themselves as Russian. The Principality manages to settle quite a bit of its local nomadic populations particularly cossacks in the northern part of the country which helps with economic production.
    • Zhytomyr: The Principality of Zhytomyr begins to advance its own agricultural growth as well with more and more Ukrainians and Russians going to farm. The City of Zhytomyr boasts a population of nearly 80,000 and growing as many of the Russians coming to live are moving to the city rather than the countryside. While some do move to the countryside the farming begins to advance as the various farmlands are noticed to be extremely fertile with an agricultural surplus taking place. The population of Zhytomyr reaches 670,000 and growing with more of the Ukrainians and Russians settling down.
  • Demak Sultanate: We begin building our military to a total of 50,000 troops. We forcefully convert our subjects to Islam. We begin to incorporate our kingdom into the vast structures that the Majapahit left behind. We will also begin to make a navy by building more frigates to put the total amount at 70. After losing to the Pajajaran. We look to find allies in the region specifically Tulang Bawang and Aceh Sultanate . We begin to look east for power to colonize by using the existing foundations created by Majapahit to conquer Bali as we use the local chieftains to help us take over (NPC RESPONSE REQUIRED). We decide to send all the Buddhist relics to Ayutthaya but say that the majority of the infidels are Hindu.
    • Acehnese Diplomacy: We agree to the creation of an friendship between Aceh and Demak, though we request that they refrain from colonising the Indonesian archipelago. We present the Demak Sultan with various gifts and our representatives attempt to persuade Demak leaders to direct their colonisation efforts elsewhere.
    • Bali (MOD)is receptive to Demak vassalization. (You must run a vassalization algo to determine how many years it will take or a war algo to take them over, as they are a centralized state.)
  • Aceh: With the famine well and truly ended and our population recovering thanks to generous aid from Ayutthaya, we begin transitioning back to full-time compulsory education, with boys going to school five days a week now. We resume work on developing technologically and militarily. We request to open trade with China. Acehnese diplomats travel to the court of the Portuguese King and present him with gifts, including special Sumatran jewellery and the sweetest of durians grown from the loving care of Acehnese farmers. We request to open trade negotiations with Portugal. (MOD RESPONSE REQUIRED)
    • Portugal (MOD) agrees to open trade with Aceh, but primarily directs trade through the Straits of Malacca.
  • Brunei: The Bornean Sultan sends some of his soldiers to aid some tribesmen in returning possession of Pontiakak, the last year beins spent in preperation for this event. In other news, reforms continues to proceed as planned, and more centralization insues. Plotting begins to expropriate the Sulu lands to the Bornean crown. Military navy and economy are increased, more negotiations on how to purchase islands from Siak. The Sultan, hoping to increase his power, spontaneously declares holy jihad on the infidel nation of Tondo. He invades through Maynilla, and sends two thousnad Imperial guard elites to deal with the problem. The Imperial Guard makes quick advances into the nation, laying the capital of the Tondo Kingdom to siege. By the End of the year, after a large battle, the King of Tondo surrenders his crown unconditionally, and places his people under the rulership of the Bruneian Empire. The Sultan makes sure to quickly install some of his administrators in the place of these new districts and populations. THe population of the Bruneian Empire nearly doubled from this expedition. The Kingdom of Maynilla is substantially expanded, while the rest is incorporated as overseas districts of the Bruneian Empire. Work begins on how to incorporate the people. The non-Muslims are given the choice to convert or pay the religion tax. Many decide not to, but the Sultan believes they will in time, given they will see the technological and social boons the great religion of Islam will bring. He also doesn't mind the extra taxes. The Sultan Enters in a grand ceremony to inspect his new subjects, and is crowned as "sovereign of Luzon and Visayas". Missionaries are immediately sent out to the people, and they begin to be used for extra agricultural force. Merchants set up shop really quickly, and the old Tondean fleet is incorporated into the Bornean Navy.
    • Maynilla: After receiving a large boost of territory from the Bruneian Crown, the Maynillans set out to bring the light of Islam to the Island's inhabitants. Unless they want to pay the religion tax, of course, as mandated by the Qu'ran. The Kingdom begins expanding its territory of control north. Incorporation of newly conquered peoples begins. (100 px north)
  • The Republic of the 14 United Netherlands: Trade is optimized, especially in Antwerpen and Rotterdam. The navy sustains our colonies, and is expanded. We explore Madagascar. Admiral Kaasdorp sails with the natives to Kotte, the capital of the Kotte Kingdom. There he has an audience with the king of Kotte, with whom he seeks to reach a trade agreement (MODS RESPOND, PLEASE).  The nation has seen major progress and we notice this in economy, technology and in military. In response to the mass terrorization of the Jews, something Milich, in line with the ideals of his teacher Erasmus, despises, the Netherlands offers a home to Jews who seek a new home, promising that they will not be terrorized and killed and instead will be equal to our citizens, as we are a tolerant people.
    • Kaap de Goede Hoop: We expand by 20 px along the coast (10 px to each side of the colony). We benefit from our trade with the Maputo, primarily with copper.
    • Nieuw-Brussel: We continue trading with the natives, primarily with furs. We expand by 75 px deeper into Bevereiland (OTL Long Island).
    • Kotte (MOD): Agrees to a trade agreement with the Netherlands.
  • Yi Dynasty: Following the successful coup d’état led by General Kim Tae Min, the Yi family is re-installed as the sole legitimate ruling family. With their renewed power, they order to send the Chu family into exile. The monarch consolidates power over Korean territory and begins the massive purge of political dissent and pro-Chinese nobility, confiscating their financial assets before sending them into exile in Manchuria. The four major cities, Seoul (former Hanseong), Incheon, P’yongyang, and Ulsan enters a stage of reconstruction, with development rapidly approaching pre-war levels. The rapid construction of four new industrial complexes (situated in Busan, Daegu, Bucheon, and Kaesong) continues at an unprecedented pace, with built waterwheel-powered blast furnaces melting wrought and cast iron together. The output of metal continues to see rapid increase. Large-scale mining activities in the North continue, supplying the Southern industrial complexes with an ensured supply of raw materials but also giving the Korean government a source of income to fund its reconstruction and modernisation programs. In order to block any Chinese influx into Manchuria and Korea in the future, the construction of a ten-meter tall wall in the Sino–Korean border continues, spanning the entirety of the Sino–Korean border and projected to be completed in two decades. The largely government-sponsored promotion of Korean values, including obedience to the state, plus artistry, scholarship, dedication to work, and academic achievement; components of a good work ethic, continues to gain momentum. Neo-Confucianism, the official state ideology, continues to rapidly grow in popularity, with its ideals being enforced in all sectors of society. Secularisation begins, with much of the population, especially the nobility, being irreligious. In order to increase the amount of skilled labour and white-collar workers, tertiary education is highly encouraged, and the ability to read and write is continued to be taught to many commoners as possible. Education for children aged seven to 14 becomes compulsory, compensating the lack of child labour in the agricultural sector with large increases in productivity. As the level of literacy increases so does the number of printing presses, enabling the spread of knowledge and information. The number of students continue to surge, resulting in a boom in the construction of libraries, schools and universities continues. Trade with the Bruneians, the Thais, the Indonesians, the Turks, the Malays, and the Portuguese continues. Korea increases military patrols in the Korean Sea to secure its national security, and expands its territory 100 px into Manchuria, 15 px into Hokkaido, 100 px into Taiwan, and 50 px into Sakhalin.
  • Archduchy of Austria: Emperor Ferdinand I founds an order named the Devout Christians and orders them to arrest every Jew in the Archduchy of Austria, naming them traitors, while asking for the help of all devout Christians implying that he will even accept Evangelicals help, while the Jews' properties are confiscated by the Archduchy of Austria, after secretly reading Martin Luther's treatise entitled On the Jews and Their Lies, being very interested in book's theory and agreeing with it. After the Jews serve their sentence, they are deported from the HRE. We arrest Jens Hallander but after the Emperor has a secret audience with him, is fascinated by his theory, so he agrees to hide him from the pope and to assist him to finish his work. We stop to usefully assist the Order of St. Nicholas even though we still help them, most of the information we give them is just useless and their investigations start leading them to dead ends. As agriculture continues to recover, is able to reach pre-crisis output, but only in Austrian territory, in the rest of the HRE some may say the situation is deteriorating, due to most efforts that were made to fix agricultural output, happened inside Austrian territories. Cattle farming industry is starting to recover with more animals growing up, because the cattle aren't starving now, due to the agricultural output recovering. Emperor Ferdinand I continues to consolidate his rule over the Holy Roman Empire. Food and clean water distribution in the whole HRE is going as planned, unrest is quelled inside the HRE. However, some suggest resources are unequally distributed, with a big percentage of them going to the Archduchy of Austria and its vassals. Schools and Universities continue to open, but they are mostly for nobles or rich people, as they have high fees.
    • Kingdom of Hungary: King Louis II addresses the crisis as Emperor Ferdinand I does, while although being outside the HRE, he sends some aid to Austria. Devout Christians are assisted in arresting Jews.
    • Landgraviate of Hesse: Addresses the crisis the same way the Archduchy of Austria does. Devout Christians are assisted in arresting Jews.
    • Duchy of Luxemburg: Addresses the crisis the same way the Archduchy of Austria does. Devout Christians are assisted in arresting Jews.
    • Austrian Diplomacy: We ask our ally Poland-Lithuania to supply us with food and clean water, as they are not affected so much by the drought and the following crisis. (MOD RESPONSE) Emperor Ferdinand I asks the states of the HRE to assist the order of the Devout Christians in arresting Jews, in order to secure that their wealth will not leave their realms and that will end up in their hands (the nobles), just as it happened in Austria. (MOD RESPONSE)
    • Poland-Lithuania (MOD): Agrees to help supply some food and water, but they too were impacted by the famine and can only provide so much.
    • Other Holy Roman Empire states (MOD) make efforts to persecute the Jewish people, many looking the other way as their population initiates pogroms, expediting the Jewish exodus from Germany.
Continues improving relations and trading with other Japanese states, Korea, China, Ayutthaya and West European powers.
  • Bohemia: The economy and infrastructure is improved, whilst population grows in Prague. We hope to improve relations with other HRE states as far as possible. The relations with other HRE states couldn't be a plan. The cities continue to build in.
  • Maguindanao: The Sultan of Maguindanao Shariff Muhammed Kabungsuwan dies this year (OTL equivalent) his son Sharif Maka-Alang succeeds him as Sultan. On Mindinao we expand 50 px north. We conduct a build-up of our military increasing our navy by ten ships. We send an expedition to various islands surrounding us hoping to contact and possibly convert them to Islam Mod response required. We continue to conduct slave raids on surrounding islands taking natives back as slaves and selling them to other nations such as Ayutthaya and Brunei. Seeing a chance for military expansion we contact Brunei telling them that they will help them invade Tondo in exchange for support in invading and converting other island nations in the OTL Philippines. We make contact with Aceh and attempt to forge a trade agreement.
  • Ayutthaya continues to enjoy its status as a regional leader in trade. With raw material and luxury goods flowing in from the East and money and advanced technology from the West, King Chairacha declares a celebratory year to unite his expanded realm into a common Ayutthayan ideal. He uses the extensive royal granaries to supply rice to all ends of his empire, ordering that all fields lay fallow and all citizens spend the year learning Ayutthayan, the new language that had been created in the preceding years that mixed Thai, Khmer, Malay, and Burmese into a Latin-based language. Buddhist monks, originally upset at the loss of their native language, are bribed by the nobility and traders and then take the lead in teaching the Ayutthayan tongue. Chairacha discards the court language in favor the Ayutthayan, stating that even divine rulers embrace the new tongue. Midway through the year, to ensure compliance, all food rations are delivered to only those who speak Ayutthayan, greatly increasing its use; all native trade must also be conducted in the new tongue. Our Nicobars colony expands by 25 px, our settlement near Pontianak expands by 100 px, dispatching local natives and Bruneian soldiers, and we continue to influence Cheing Mai.

In response to Brunei’s unilateral conquest of Tondo, the Sultanate of Maguindanao increases its efforts to modernize in fear of possible attack and of Brunei’s power. The Sultan centralizes his power, using the fear of possible invasion as the justification for such actions, organizing the state into a dictatorship. The Sultanate begins expanding its territory, as to eliminate any vector of attack but from the sea. They also increase efforts to maintain peaceful relations with Brunei in order to mitigate attack chance. The justifications for the centralization never reach Brunei or anywhere outside Maguindanao territory. The sultanate becomes an organized state with clearly defined borders.

With the famine problem overcome through foreign aid, Aceh’s population begins to recover. However, this is not the least of the country’s worries. Due to the education being compulsory for the entire population, the government has been spending a high amount of money. Fortunately, last year’s trade of Sabang for food did not cost the Acehan economy much money, and in fact left another year’s worth of spending in the coffers. However, with no new tax measures or tax reform and no net gain in trade (due to the famine being a drain on the economy), the treasury spends its last coin paying teachers in the capital, leaving a Damocles’ sword of sovereign default looming over their heads, angry city guards and soldiers waiting for their coin.

Due to government inaction, minor plague outbreak occurs in Toulouse. Fortunately, however, the city’s administration manages to quarantine the city before any serious harm could be done outside the area. The plague took 1,435 lives. The plague, however, finds only one Calvinist victim, a preacher found afterwards to have fornicated with multiple churchgoing women. As news reaches outwards, the people view this plague as a message from God, and mass conversions to the Calvinist faith occur. This poses problems for the government, as many newly converted Calvinists believe that the Catholic king Henry, because of his loyalty to the pope, has lost favour with God, and therefore has lost his divine right to rule the country. Various instances of public disobedience occur as the Calvinist faith spreads like wildfire in southern France.

A group of young theologians hoping to convert the poor lost souls in the New World, calling themselves the “Fellowship of the Lord”, petition the pope to let them become missionaries in the Americas. The pope decides it would be appropriate to have them ordained priests, and issues a bull forming the “Society of Jesus”, with them as the first members, sending them off to the New World.

With the anti-Jewish pogroms riveting central Europe as a result of Luther’s treatise, On the Jews and Their Lies, many Jewish families decide to relocate to the Netherlands. This brings a new dynamism to the Dutch economy and leads to the establishment of a major lending house, the Steingolds.

The pope condemns the decision of the Holy Roman Emperor, Ferdinand I, to not turn over the blasphemous Jens Hallander. The pope then threatens the Emperor with Excommunication if the heretic is not turned over or burned at the stake in one year’s time.

A new map will come out next year. Please post any and all map issues in the corresponding section of the talk page. Thank You - Rex.

  • Aceh: With the collapse of our economy imminent, the Sultan begins to introduce tax reforms, instituting an education tax on aristocrats to finance the compulsory education system. He also encourages the establishment of small businesses such as bakeries and restaurants. To prevent the aristocracy from protesting against the new education tax, the Sultan establishes the Royal Tax Enforcement Office, an organisation designed to monitor the population and ensure that they pay their taxes. The government continues to look for ways to generate more wealth for the state treasury.
  • Bohemia: Recruitment of the troops is still continued to gain as 2750 troops been recruited in the Bohemian military. Although the economy and infrastructure continue to improve, but Bohemia fears that it shouldn't become much too powerful as it seems. The bunkers are built in some cities, but the bunkers shouldn't be placed too many in the land of Bohemia. With the assist of the order devout Christians, it seems Bohemia should go for it to assist it.
  • The Republic of the 14 United Netherlands: Trade is optimized, especially in Antwerpen and Rotterdam. The navy sustains our colonies, and is expanded. We further explore Madagascar. The nation has seen major progress and we notice this in economy, technology and in military. Stadhouder Milich welcomes the Jews to the Netherlands and gains a friendship with several of them, including the powerful Abraham Steingold. The economy benefits from both the Jew migration and the trade with Kotte. Admiral Kaasdorp proposes to the King of Kotte that the Dutch are allowed control of the coastline, in exchange for protection from outsiders. (MOD RESPONSE NEEDED)
    • Kotte (MOD) is hesitant to give its entire coastline to the Netherlands, but agrees to give port access to its capital, Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte.
  • Cherokee: The development of our society is going very well. We have made progress towards a written language from viewing the French alphabet when trading in New Orleans. Our population exceeds 43,000. While over three-fourths of our population in Cahokia (18,000) still hunts and gathers we have shown clear signs that they can and will move over to the agricultural and fur trade sectors. Since we have enough guns (~500) we are able to bring in a 500 tonne fur yield every half year. Our society has benefited from this greatly since we are able to trade in bulk down the Mississippi and back. Our production of corn and beef has grown greatly as well.
  • England: England makes five more boats. The Crown invests in artillery and large cannons for its new ships. Archbishop Cranmer writes the second Book of Common Prayers. The Prince of Wales has another son, Edward Thomas, but his wife, Princess Madeleine, dies due to complications caused by childbirth.  The colony of the Henry Islands expands on the neighboring islands. By now, the colony consists of the OTL Virgin Islands, Anguilla, St. Martin, St. Kitts and Nevis, Barbua, and Antigua. The Consolidating Act of Welsh Union is passed.
    • Calais: The fortifications at Calais are built up. Some English ships are stationed at Calais. Calais is used in the extensive English takeover of former Hansa waters.
    • Ireland: The spread of the Irish Gaelic Bible leads to some people converting to evangelism. This group continues to be a small minority.
  • Demak Sultanate: We begin building our military to a total of 55,000 troops. We forcefully convert our subjects to Islam. We begin to incorporate our kingdom into the vast structures that the Majapahit left behind. We will also begin to make a navy by building more frigates to put the total amount at 75. After losing to the Pajajaran. We look to find allies in the region specifically Tulang Bawang  (NPC RESPONSE REQUIRED). To make sure we are able to vassalize Bali, we decide that our eldest son will marry their eldest daughter.
    • Tulang Bawang (MOD) accepts the Demak alliance.
  • Archduchy of Austria: Emperor Ferdinand I spends time with his adult now son Maximilian II, duke of Bavaria and taught him how to rule his state, previously ruled by Emperor Ferdinand I as regent. The order of the Devout Christians continues to arrest every Jew found in the Archduchy of Austria, with the help of all devout Christians, while the Jews properties are confiscated by the Archduchy of Austria. The order of the Devout Christians, as their only loyalty is to the Emperor Ferdinand I, there are many rumors of mismanagement of the confiscated wealth of the Jews, with many of it in the rest of the HRE states, secretly ending up in Ferdinand I treasury. After the Jews serve their sentence of 18 months in prison, they are deported from the HRE. We continue to hide and secretly assist Jens Hallander in his research. After we stop to usefully assist the Order of St. Nicholas even though we still help them, because most of the information we give them is just useless, their investigations start leading them to dead ends.
    • Kingdom of Hungary: King Louis II addresses the crisis as Emperor Fendinand I does, while although being outside the HRE, he sends some aid to Austria. We continue to assist the order of the Devout Christians and assist in arresting Jews and confiscating their properties.
    • Landgraviate of Hesse: Addresses the crisis the same way the Archduchy of Austria does. We continue to assist the order of the Devout Christians and assist in arresting Jews and confiscating their properties.
    • Duchy of Luxemburg: Addresses the crisis the same way the Archduchy of Austria does. We continue to assist the order of the Devout Christians and assist in arresting Jews and confiscating their properties.
    • Austrian Diplomacy: We strenghten our ties with our allies Florence, Brunswick-Lüneburg, Spain and Poland-Lithuania. We thank Poland-Lithuania for giving us food and water in this time of crisis sending them gifts. We ask Poland-Lithuania to assist the order of the Devout Christians to arrest the Jews, promising them their wealth and confiscated properties. (MOD RESPONSE) We try to convince the pope that Jens Hallander has escaped our Realm, giving him forged evidence suggesting that. (MOD RESPONSE)
    • Poland (MOD) refuses to aid the Order of the Devout Christians in the anti-Jewish efforts. (Poland was, in OTL, one of the only safe havens for Jews. Read: This and [http:// https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pale_of_Settlement That] )
    • The pope (MOD) is convinced by the evidence, but is highly disappointed in the Emperor for not delivering Hallander while he had the chance.
Continues improving relations and trading with other Japanese states, Korea, China, Ayutthaya and West European powers.
  • Ayutthaya resumes traditional labor this year after last year's large-scale national celebrations. Somdet Phra Chairacha is especially eager to rebuild his royal granaries, so orders the peasants, or phrai, to work harder. The new language, Ayutthayan, is largely a success although many continue to hold out. Vassalization of Cheingmai continues this year as it approaches completion. The settlement at Pontianak expands by 100 px along the coastline of Borneo. The colony in the Andamaans is finished expanding this year, and it is fully integrated into the rest of the Kingdom. The economy prospers as trade from East to West travels via Ayutthaya's extensive empire.
  • Angu: The tribe's consistent modernization is starting to become significantly important as the expansion of the tribe now increases to 55 px, meaning the Angan Conglomerate now has better defined borders and a substantial amount of territory. Because of the importance of the Portuguese in this, Namton A'fao Koito orders a gold-covered mal to be made for the Portuguese leader and informs his trade partners about the gift that is to be made.
The Russian population reaches 12.3 million and growing. I'm officially back. I was on a trip for the first part of Spring Break, kinda came up without notice so sorry, guys -Feud
  • Venice: Expands army, navy, Venetian Atlantic Trading Company, Port Sommaripa. etc.
  • Brunei: Continues to incorporate all conquered peoples. Expands south towards Pontiakak 100 px. Trade increases government income, first graduates of the Military school are made military governors and generals.
    • Kingdom of Maynilla: Expands navy, expands 100 px north.
  • Empire of Spain: Ever since Spain’s defeat at the hands of France and Portugal, Charles I and the Spanish Empire has not been the same. The defeat of the Franco-Spanish War resulted in a period of stagnation of Spain, with policies and government actions failing to change. Personally, Charles I entered a period of depression, and in 1542 entered a state of delirium, making the central government fall apart temporarily, and many courtiers fought for the power of the Imperial throne . Now, however, after a divine revelation, Charles I has regained his sanity and amassed his royal guards to coup the pretenders and restore himself to the throne once more. Charles I  is determined to counter France’s rising power by not only restoring Spain back to its former glory, but also to make Spain greater than it has ever been. Domestically, Charles I makes an edict that reforms the taxation system, allowing for money to flow into the treasury. These funds are used to invest in education, and universities are built with education being optional. We welcome Jews to the nation and they reinvigorate the Spanish economy, setting up multiple businesses. Charles I’s sends his blessing to the Fellowship of the Lord and sends supplies to them, sharing the conviction that the Gospel should be shared with everyone on Earth. We also use the funds to rebuild our navy and expand the Spanish Empire. To achieve this expansion, we declare war on the heathen Incan Empire, and we hope to conquer and Christianize it. 50,000 troops land in Columbia and from there invade the Northern Incan Empire. Meanwhile, we centralize the colonial governments under the Spanish Empire, who have been autonomous during Charles I's state of delirium. The colonies should be under Imperial control once again next year.

With lack of intervention by the French government, the Calvinist faith continues to spread throughout southern France. This causes mass riots as many citizens refuse to pay taxes to a king who no longer has his divine right to rule. The most prominent of these protesters, Phillipe Gautier, becomes quite popular as he disseminates anti-French propaganda. He calls for a united Calvinist state independent of France. People take this to heart, and more civil disobedience follows.

After doing nothing to restore Chinese rule in Korea and after suffering a massive plague, the Ming Dynasty faces an onslaught of public disapproval in China. Some begin to even speculate that the Ming have lost the mandate of heaven, and mass protests begin in the streets of Beijing. Many Chinese see Korea as their rightful vassal, who is now very much acting independently, and openly defying Ming. This causes many Chinese families to openly question the Ming, and some even look to the throne.

Taking advantage of Ayutthayan over-extension due to numerous conquests, the city of Angkor declares its independence from the nation, taking a good portion of Cambodia along with it. The primary reason cited for this rebellion are Hindu-Buddhist sectarian differences.

The smallpox plague finally ends in the Inca Empire. The Sapa Inca begins to rebuild, but finds strong resistance within his own ranks. 70% of the entire population had died of the plague, and as such this causes massive problems for the state. This sudden loss of population weakens the Sapa Inca's hold on the country, with the very real possibility that it will be torn asunder in civil war as the various ethnic groups, who resented Inca rule in the past, see this as their prime opportunity for independence.

Cossack attacks grow in Crimea, with the latest offensive leading to a short occupation of Bakhchisarai, cleaving Crimea in two. They encourage the oppressed Slavic populations to revolt. However, they are soon pushed back, but their presence has not gone unnoticed by the peasantry of Crimea ... many soon organize near Odessa, declaring the Slavic Kingdom of Crimea. The self-proclaimed kingdom’s influence spreads throughout the region, encouraging other Slavs in Crimea to declare open rebellion against the Khanate.

I lessened pressure on the slavs and negotiated with the Cossacks several turns ago -Nate

All you offered them is land, what they want is independence, or at the very least autonomy. Land means nothing when they still feel like second-class citizens with no access to how they are governed. That being said, the Slavic Kingdom is very willing to negotiate.(we're also beginning this thing where if major nations (top tiers) aren't going to be active, they'll get civil unrest events)

Considering most of the major powers of Europe quit the game, that will ultimately result in a couple of states (mainly Russia and Austria) to dominate everything.

The point was to "encourage" those players to come back to the game ... Also, how would that be different from allowing nothing to happen? In both cases, the worst case scenario would be the same "handful of states dominating everything" because of inactivity. This way, at least we attempt to stimulate the activity through outside forces. Although if recent edits are any indication, the game might be on life support.

The actions of the inactive major powers will be decided by the mod team and any significant actions will be posted in the events section. Just because there are no players does not mean that nothing is happening in these nations. Also, again, as has been asserted in the past, keep discussion to the talk please. -FP

Let me propose an alternative, in the first three turns bad events happen to inactive major powers, so that their players are "encouraged" to return to the game, but thereafter the actions of the major powers are decided by the mod team, so that the players will have some time to respond before their nations are taken over by the mod team. ~Wrto12

We will make England great again.

  • Brunswick-Lüneburg: the economy expands thanks to the return of peace within the Holy Roman Empire. With no need at the moment for a standing army, the soldiers are allowed to return home, though production of arms, like arquebuses and cannons, continue, albeit at a reduced rate.
  • Aceh: As our economy recovers and our treasury begins to refill, we restart our quest to modernise. Graduates from our schools are immediately put to work in their respective fields. Our representatives to Europe and Turkey return home with a treasure trove of European technological and philosophical ideas. Meanwhile, the latinisation of our language, Acehnese (Basa Acèh) is complete. We begin phasing out the Jawi script and teaching the new alphabet in schools.
  • Khanate of Crimea: Giray Khan once again appears personally to negotiate with the rebels in the Khanate. He offers to lower the taxes, especially the Jizya, and repeal the head tax of the Devşirme. The purported Slavic King himself is declared to be committing treason. (OOC: This is how any normal human deals with a peasant revolt. They can't just keep demanding independence because nationalism doesn't exist. Once the peasants are satisfied with land, etc., they will stop supporting the leader). 80,000 Ottoman troops are stationed in Crimea, increasing the total military of Crimea to 130,000 stationed near Odessa, in case of further violence.
  • Ayutthaya: King Chairacha is immensely offended by the revolt of Angkor, and declares a war to subjugate the unruly city-state. The army makes great progress, but victory is not secured this year alone. The economy continues to thrive despite the ongoing war. Vassalization of Cheingmai continues in its penultimate year. Education in Ayutthayan continues, despite the largely uphill struggle in many uneducated communities; to better enforce the new language laws are implemented requiring trade to occur in the new tongue.
Continues improving relations and trading with other Japanese states, Korea, China, Ayutthaya and West European powers. Gib algo for vassalization of Noto and the Ashikaga-Owari war, please!
  • Archduchy of Austria: Emperor Ferdinand I decides to support the Calvinists in France, to benefit from the situation, although any Austrian involvement remains a secret. Emperor Ferdinand I continues to spend time with his adult now son Maximilian II, Duke of Bavaria and to taught him how to rule his state, previously ruled by Emperor Ferdinand I as regent. The order of the Devout Christians continues to arrest every Jew found in the Archduchy of Austria, with the help of all devout Christians, while the Jews' properties are confiscated by the Archduchy of Austria. The order of the Devout Christians, as their only loyalty is to the Emperor Ferdinand I, there are many rumors of mismanagement of the confiscated wealth of the Jews, with many of it in the rest of the HRE states, secretly ending up in Ferdinand I treasury. After the Jews serve their sentence of 18 months in prison they are deported from the HRE. We continue to hide and secretly assist Jens Hallander in his research. We use forced assimilation on the Slavs, who are located mainly on the Duchy of Carinthia. However, some suggest resources are unequally distributed, with a big percentage of them going to the Archduchy of Austria and its vassals. Schools and Universities continue to open, but they are mostly for nobles or rich people, as they have high fees.
    • Kingdom of Hungary: King Louis II continues to address the crisis as Emperor Ferdinand I does. Although being outside the HRE, he sends some aid to Austria. We continue to assist the order of the Devout Christians and assist in arresting Jews and confiscating their properties.
    • Landgraviate of Hesse: We continue to address the crisis the same way the Archduchy of Austria does. We continue to assist the order of the Devout Christians and assist in arresting Jews and confiscating their properties.
    • Duchy of Luxemburg: We continues to address the crisis the same way the Archduchy of Austria does. We continue to assist the order of the Devout Christians and assist in arresting Jews and confiscating their properties.
    • Austrian Diplomacy: We strengthen our ties with our allies Florence, Brunswick-Lüneburg, Spain and Poland-Lithuania. We ask the pope for a crusade against the Ottoman Empire to liberate Christians that are under the oppression of the Muslims (MOD RESPONSE) We also ask France, Venice, Russia and Poland-Lithuania (MOD RESPONSE FOR P-L) to assist us in a possible war against the Ottoman Empire in order to protect their interests. We secretly send supplies, money and military advisors to the Calvinists in France.
    • I don't see this happening, but I'd like to see what the other mods have to say. -Skyboi
    • Nope, not happening. -FPboi
    • I fixed it. ~Wrto12
  • Empire of Spain: With news reaching Charles I that 70% of the Incan population has been decimated by smallpox, we seize this opportunity by declaring war on the Inca and descend upon them with 50,000 troops from our Colombia colony and attack their ports with our ships in an effort to conquer the Incan Empire and to Christianize its remaining population. We also align with the anti-Sapa ethnic groups and encourage them to rebel, sending them weapons. We issue a decree to the Incan populace, if you surrender to us you will be spared, but if you don’t, you will die. As we go through the villages, more Incans join us as we advance to Cuzco. The war is Charles I chief concer. We do, however, continue to incorporate our colonies and build schools. A trade mission is sent to Ming China. (KK asked me to post this for him because of computer problems. ~ UR)
  • England: In England, King Henry decides to support the French Calvinists on the down low. Meanwhile, we do things. The colony of the Henry Islands expands onto more of the neighboring islands. The King sends his son the Prince of Wales to Istanbul to have a meeting with Suleiman the Magnificent, the Crown's most esteemed ally. The takeover of Hansa shipping lanes brings more wealth into England, enough for the Crown to consider funding a second colony in the New World. The proposed location for this site is OTL Jamestown.
    • Calais: The fortifications at Calais are built up. The Lord High Admiral visits Calais. Calais benefits from England's increased trade with the North Sea nations and the northern German states. Calais is used to promote good relations with the neighboring Netherlands.
    • Ireland: The Crown continues to spread the Irish Gaelic Bible in Ireland, slowly bringing more people toward evangelism. The Crown promotes the construction of roads and other infrastructure in Ireland.
  • Demak Sultanate: We begin building our military to a total of 60,000 troops. We forcefully convert our subjects to Islam. We begin to incorporate our kingdom into the vast structures that the Majapahit left behind. We will also begin to make a navy by building more frigates to put the total amount at 80. After losing to the Pajajaran. We begin sending troops to our new vassal of Bali and with a new found alliance, we begin to attack the divided tribes of Lombok.
  • Angu: The golden mail is finished and given to the Portuguese official to hand out to the king, with a written letter from Namton A'fao Koito. The modernization ensues a baby boom in the population due to the rapid surplus of resources, allowing for a substantial increase in population. The growth of the nation also means that the conglomerate must expand yet another 55 px.
  • Venice: Expands army, navy, Venetian Atlantic Trading Company, Port Sommaripa, etc.

1546[]

Calvinists take over the city of Toulouse in a revolt. In a shocking turn of events, Philliple Gautier is declared King of Occitane. The revolt continues to rage as the Calvinist faith spreads throughout southern France, and many Calvinists pledge their loyalty to their “True King”.

Sorry for the delay boys and girls,  we seem to have had some technical issues (TBH I don't know why there was no turn then, I'm usually asleep when it starts). -Skyboi

  • Bohemia: We continue to recruit 1500 troops as the recruitment is decreasing much further. Bohemia aims to have troops more than 90,000 - although we aren't sure what our troops are currently in total. Meanwhile, the infrastructure is improved, whilst the economy is doing the same. The cities continue to build in, and for more purposes the population grows in the Bohemian capital city. Bohemia aims to improve relations not a lot of HRE states but few.
  • Kazakh Khanate: Following the lack of movement from the Russian settlers, Burat Khan orders his men to restart their expansion in the north (250 px). The Khagan also continues to study Ottoman technologies to improve his army. He also continue to recruit new troops, keeping his army 80,000 year strong. Finally, the Khagan organize massive celebration for his 55th anniversary.
  • Ayutthaya: The Kingdom continues its war with Angkor, conquering the rebellious province. Chairacha, to prevent any further thoughts of revolution, orders every tenth man in the rebelling provinces to be publicly murdered in a form of decimation. This lowers morale in the exterior parts of the realm, but it increases national unity substantially and makes future rebellions much less likely. Chairacha falls ill after the reconquest and subjugation of Angkor, and many suspect poison. He dies, and his son Nattasit becomes the new King of Ayutthaya. Instruction in the new language continues to be a priority of Nattasit, who is more of a reconciler and less belligerent than his late father. He completes the vassalization of Cheingmai this year, as well.
  • Demak Sultanate: We begin building our military to a total of 65,000 troops. We forcefully convert our subjects to Islam. We begin to incorporate our kingdom into the vast structures that the Majapahit left behind. We will also begin to make a navy by building more frigates to put the total amount at 85. After losing to the Pajajaran. We begin sending troops to our new vassal of Bali and with a new found alliance, we begin to attack the divided tribes of Lombok making great progress through the island.
