Newfoundland is a parliamentary government that shares one land border with Canada and a maritime border to a French territory of St Pierre and Miquellon. A Commonwealth of Nations member state and realm. It was a British colony from 1783-1907 as part of British North America. It became a self governing colony in 1855. Then it became independent as a dominion in 1907.
