History

Pre-War

Before the War, Yonkers was a fairly populous city, named after a religious sect.

Post-War

Nearly a month post-war, in the with of November, people began emerging from municipal shelters, backyard shelters, and basements. Many survivors met in the center of town, only to learn that the mayor was gone, and the Local Government was scrambling to establish some sort of precedent. Rioting was limited, as most people retreated into their homes, made desperate by the cold winter.

In the years to come, rooftop gardens and inner-city farms fed the populous, and the people became self-sufficient. Militias guarded farming exclaves outside the city. People flocked to Yonkers, straining resources, and although life was turbulent, it went on.

Independence

When it was obvious that no federal aide was coming, people became anxious. What had happened to the rest of America? Where they going to be attacked? Questions began to bubble up, the the local officials felt it was time for some variety of action to be taken. In response to the lack of outside governance, a town meeting was called in which all local officials signed a "Certificate of Dissolution", signifying the death of the federal and state governments in the eyes of the people. It was soon decided by popular vote that a new constitution was in order; as well revamping the current militia system, among other issue. This period became known as the "Rebirth".

A week later, all able-bodied adults were invited to a constitutional convention, wherein the details of the budding city-state's highest laws would be detailed. Debate raged on for days, over details such as who was allowed to have guns, voting, and the structure of the government. Eventually, louder voices prevailed, and the constitution was signed.

Some brought to the table a new flag design, sewn by a local group of seamstresses. Using a dull orange cloth, and white linen, the first New Yonkers flag was made. It was a bicolor, wherein the orange represented the burnt earth; the white, the sky, and open possibilities. The orange half circle represented the mushroom clouds of the War. The design received almost universal approval, and new flags were demanded.

The Militias were formally organized into a single armed guard, with somewhat standardized weaponry (crossbows and knives), and a dull orange overcoat uniform, a homage to the flag. They were under the formal command of the Mayor, however he had to take a vote to initiate military action.

The 80's

As life began to recover, New Yonkers expanded outward, and exclaves were established in Tarrytown and New City, wherein salvage operation and corundum mining began. People began to look up as life seemed to be recovering to a new normal. Walls were built, oak longboats to patrol the Hudson River. A Lumber and fur trade sprung up, flax was farmed for cloth, and water purifiers made from steel, sand, and charcoal purified the Hudson's water for the
