The Republic of New Hampshire, also known as the Provisional Republic of New Hampshire, or New Hampshire for short, is a survivor state in the former American state of the same name. Formed shortly after the events of doomsday, the nation of New Hampshire consists of much of the former state, whose capital, Concord, was largely unscathed by the nuclear exchange of 2012.

History

Doomsday

On 21 December 2012 several nuclear weapons were launched at the United States, including the state of New Hampshire. As the nuclear weapons were detected New Hampshire declared a state of emergency, attempting to alert as many people as possible. It was determined that the cities of Manchester, Nashua, and Portsmouth were targeted, and the state government issued a demand that all citizens in these areas attempt to evacuate or take shelter. This was largely unsuccessful, and thousands perished when the nuclear devices struck, or through complications while attempting to evacuate. The city of Manchester, New Hampshire's largest city at over 110,000 people, was particularly devastated, as very few nuclear silos existed protecting this area.

Within the next few hours the state's government awaited further orders in Concord. In the meantime the state's national guard and police force was on high alert, responding to issues across the state. In the capital of Concord alone, looting and other crimes were widespread, alongside rubble and forest fires further south.

Almost twenty-four hours after the first strike, it was finally declared that Concord and the New Hampshire state government had survived the nuclear exchange. After the capital was secured the city's people begin to rebuild the damage it had suffered at the hands of panicked citizens and refugees. Any remaining national guard units and former US military personnel in the area began answering to the provisional government in Concord until further information could be gathered. Several units would begin scouting out the surrounding area in the next few weeks, determining the exact situation around Concord. It was discovered that much of New Hampshire had not been targeted, leaving most of the state relatively intact.

On Christmas of 2012 the people of central and northern New Hampshire had been mostly united under the provisional government in Concord. Representatives from across the state in contact with the capital would assemble the next day in Concord to begin discussing permanent plans for the state. Led by governor John Lynch the provisional congress would adopt a constitution almost identical to the already existing New Hampshire laws and United States constitution. The congress would also authorize a budget for the new nation, distributing stockpiled supplies to citizens and refugees, as well as organizing the New Hampshire military.
