Overview[]

New England was originally a small colony on the coast of Erikson, but within 100 years it grew into one of the largest places of trade on the continent. Today it has the biggest military in Erikson and, while it's struggling economically, it has made many technological advancements. It is not part of the English Commonwealth, unlike many of its formerly English counterparts.

The New England War was unlike most wars at the time, as it was one of the first to use rifles. Many more people died, and the war ended up lasting only two years.

Post-Independence Era and Constitutional Disputes (1500's)[]

After gaining independence, the nation of New England became extremely poor. Due to the fact that they were formerly ordered by England to solely trade with them, it was hard living without exports for the first few weeks. Soon, however, they managed to make some semblance of peace with the French colonies, and small trades began.

The issue of a proper constitution was controversial in the region, as many people wanted to simply copy the Vinlandic one from the north. However, a constitutional convention was held, with famous generals and politicians who fought in the New England War. Unlike OTL's US Constitutional Convention, New England's was much more open to the public, and allowed people to object to the changes being made at the time.

They also soon attempted to expand to the Pacific, which ended up being a bad idea for them. It only made them overextend, while the Russians to the north lied claim on some of their Northern colonies (even though they were still expanding into Siberia at the time). England didn't accept trade with England and Russia until the late-1700's, which forced them to trade by land, with places like Vinland to the north and the French Colonies to the south.

By 1592, New England had reached the Pacific, after 200 years of colonial stagnation (as England had stopped caring mostly in the late-1300's, as they moved to focus more on Avalon and Patagonia, as well as their Pacific colonies). The first minor settlements were settled near OTL Los Angeles and San Francisco, although they moved south quickly. Government-funded mining projects flourished in the region, and allowed them to finally trade via sea once more (with places like China and Japan). People flocked from the east in order to get the gold the government was mining for themselves. Unlike the popular belief, they actually supported this (as they could have gained more people for their own projects).

Industrial Revolution (1600's)[]

Trade with Vinland skyrocketed, and allowed them to import their gold all around the world. They put extreme limits on expansion, because they believed that the reason they were in an economic slump for all those years was partly because of it. They became allies with France, as they were both against England. The first official borders with the French colonies were established, which finally allowed Anselia to sell them a portion of their western desert land.

For the first time, New England was a power in the region, on par with Louisiana and Vinland. It traded with the major powers of Europe, and many countries liked it a lot. France was its closest ally by 1700, with Vinland close behind. While having tensions with the loyal English colony of Avalon, it still frequently traded with the region.
