Nelson Rockefeller (July 8, 1908-September 17, 1967) was an American politician and president, serving from 1958 to 1968. A member of the Nationalist Party, Rockefeller presided over a turbulent time involving the growing threat of Russia, the civil rights movement, and the bloody Dixie Rebellion. Rockefeller attempted to balance these issues, but a major economic slump in the later part of his presidency marred his reputation. Nelson and his generals managed to end the Dixie Rebellion in early 1967, but vengeful Ku Klux Klansmen sought revenge and assassinated Rockefeller while he was touring Philadelphia.
