The Moorish Kingdom (Moorish: ⵜⴰⴳⵍⴷⵉⵜ ⵜⵉⵎⴰⵣⵉⵖⵜ Tagldit Timazight), also called the Kingdom of the Moors, Mauritania or Moorish Empire, was an empire founded by Musa I of the Nafusa dynasty in 688 that extends his power from present-day western Libya to Septimania, in present-day southern France. The Moorish Kingdom, centered in Cordova from 716, survives until 1031 extending from Wandalus (Moorish name for Hispania) to western Atlas Mountains.

The Moorish Kingdom began its decline during a civil war (1017-1031) between the descendants of the last king, Haisa II, and the successors of his chamberlain, Agizul. In 1031, after years of infighting, the empire fractured into a number of petty kingdoms (see kingdoms of Wandalus).
