The Monarch of the United Kingdom was the head of State of the former United Kingdom. Since then, it has splintered into several monarchies, as well as some republican states.

The monarchy existed as a constitutional entity of both the United Kingdom, and it's overseas territories. The monarch existed to undertake various official and ceremonial duties, such as appointing the Prime Minister, and being the ceremonial Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

However, in 1983, the United Kingdom was shattered by the devastating effects of Doomsday. The Queen, Elizabeth II, continued to function as Monarch until her death on the Isle of Wight in 1984, but even before her death new monarchs started to rise in areas; some of these were members of the royal family, some local nobility, and some just charismatic and popular politicians.

After Doomsday, Bermuda lost contact with almost all countries of the Northern Hemisphere, including Britain and the nearby United States. The governor at the time, John William Morrison, 2nd Viscount Dunrossil, reacted quickly to this and put in emergency measures. After many people starteed to experience radiation burns, Morrison enacted an NHS Act, leading to the creation of a health service. This proved to increase the Governor's popularity.

After retiring in 1986, many people started to call for him to be their new King, as the British Monarchy had been destroyed. After a month of soul-searching whether this was best for the state, he relented and was crowned in 1987, becoming John I of Bermuda. John I proved to be very popular, organising explorations.

In 2000 John I died peacefuly in his sleep, and succeded by his daughter Catherine, who was crowned Queen Catherine I. She continued her father's explorations, and made contact with the Celtic Alliance.

At the time of Doomsday, Princess Anne was visiting Cleveland with her young daughter, Zara. On 15th August 1997 Anne was crowned Queen of the Cleveland at Gisborough Abbey, chosing the name Anne II to show a direct link to the British Throne. In 2007 it was announced that Zara, Anne's daughter and heir, was dating Crown-Prince George of the Kingdom of Northumbria, and in 2009 they were married. It was announced that, upon both of their accessions, the Kingdoms would be united as the United Kingdoms of Northumbria and Cleveland, and upon the accession of their child, the Kingdoms will become the Kingdom of Albion.

On the 29th July 2012, the House of Percy announced the Birth of a healthy baby girl, Victoria Isabelle Anne Elizabeth Percy.

The Clunies-Ross family from Shetland established a coconut plantation on the uninhabited islands in 1827. Most of the islands' population is descended from workers on the plantation; today approximately 80% of the islanders are Malay-speaking Sunnis. In 1886 Queen Victoria granted the Clunies-Rosses title to the islands in perpetuity, and the family began styling themselves "kings". In 1955 Britain transferred the islands to Australia, though the family still owned the islands and continued to run them nearly as they had before; however, over time the family's rule was limited until they were removed from the islands. From this stage on the Monarch of Australia was the Monarch of the Cocos.

After Doomsday, the Clunies-Ross family, in possession of a large amount of money, started to build a shipping fleet and improve the Cocos Economy. Soon, in return for his help, John Cecil Clunies-Ross demanded to be placed as monarch again, which the islands had little choice about.

While the nation has no constitution, a council, originally made up of family members, is voted in, though the king can vote in ties. The King rarely uses traditional royalty symbology, apart from in flags. In 2009 John George told an Australian reporter ""We're kings because we're the hereditary rulers of a country. If there was a better name for that than 'king', we'd use it. We really don't go in for a lot of that royalty nonsense, robes and crowns and maces and all that."

The Monarchy of New Britain is the most direct successor to the Monarchy of the United Kingdom. After the death of Elizabeth II in 1984, Andrew Windsor was crowned King of the United Kingdom on the Isle of Wight. In 1986 British Naval Forces landed in South Africa, which had fractured under Civil War, and established a base around Port Elizabeth. Later that Year, along with thousands of other refugees, Andrew arrived in the state. In 1987 the South African government had completely ceased to function, and the Realm of New Britain was established under Andrew I as King.

After the arrival of many Anglo-Americans from parts of South Africa which were becoming Anglophobic, King Andrew lead many efforts to abolish any remaining remnants of the Aparteid. Andrew proved to be a popular King, though the New British invasion of KwaXhosa proved extremely controversial, and lead to Andrew losing much popularity.

With the establishment of East Britain, the office of Monarch was left vacant. However, in 2010 the National Council voted unanimously to restore the Monarchy, and voted the esteemed member of Council William Harrison. Through his many years as Councillor he had worked tirelessly and dedicately for his nation. William accepted, but refused the building of any Royal Appartments, and instead put any resources into the rebuilding and expansion of East Britain. After the successful Invasion of the Isle of Eels, King William and Prime Minister John Robson walked from Spalding to Southend via Ely, Newmarket, Bury St Edmunds, Stowmarket, Sudbury, Chelmsford, and Billericay, to demostrate that people could "walk with confidence from one nation to another".

In 2011 East Britain was reorganised from a provisional state into Newolland, the flag being raised by King William and the Prime Minister. Two years later, William abdicated in favour of his daughter Linda, crowned Queen Linda.

After discussions with his brothers Ralph and James, and his mother, Lady Elizabeth, Henry Percy, 11th Duke of Northumberland officially renamed himself Henry I, King of Northumbria on 21st November 1993, upon this announcement he declared the former counties of Northumberland and also non-radiated parts of Tyne and Wear to become the Kingdom of Northumbria, regaining the name for the area that had been used from 654 - 954 AD.

He declared that a parliament would be formed based at Bamburgh Castle on the North Sea coast.

King Henry died suddenly in his sleep on 31st October 1995, without advanced medical technology it is assumed that he had a stroke. He was succeeded by his younger brother Ralph George Algernon Percy who became King George of Northumbria.

After the events of Doomsday, the place of Monarch was left vacant, with their duties carried out by the Leiutenant-General. However, after contact with New Britain, Victoria accepted Andrew I as King, with Lieutenant Governor Adrian McLellan jokingly stating "It's nice to know who exactly I'm representing". However, due to the distance, the Lieutenant General carries out the duties of the Monarch and is more widely accepted as the Head of State. Victoria, however, is a member of the Commonwealth, and is likely to participate in events within this group. This is a similar arangement to Canada, and to and extent to Yukon.

The 1987 Victorian Constitution states that:

  1. Government would continue to be a Constitutional Monarchy with ties continuing with the British royals
  2. The role of the Monarchy would be ceremonial and remain tied to the British royals if they still live. Represented by a Lieutenant Governor appointed by the Premier on advice of Parliament. Lieutenant Governors serve terms of 10 years.
  3. Parliamentary system would remain. People choose representatives and the head of Government will be the leader of the majority party

After Doomsday, contact was lost, not only with Britain, but also the central Canadian government, leaving the Yukon Government by itself. The only, indirect, legacy on the Monarchy was the Commissioner. Indeed, in 1998 when Commissioner Douglas Bell retired, the position was merged with that of Government Leader, as Canada no longer existed so there was no need for a representative for it. Elections from Assembly thereafter elected the Commissioner, who acted as both Head of Government and State.

In 2005 the Yukon made contact with New Britain, which raised the question of monarchy, particuarly with some talks of closer links to the ANZC. While many saw it as a path towards a unified Canada, Andrew and New Britain at the time were unpopular with the international community. It was decided to postphone the decision.

In 2011, the Monarchy was restored, with Andrew represented by the Viceroy.

At the time of Doomsday, the Queen and members of the British Government were evacuated to the Isle of Wight, forming the British Provincial Administration, the de jure legitimate successor to the United Kingdom. The Queen continued to rule de facto only over the Isle of Wight, until her death in 1984, whereby she was replaced by her son, Andrew.

However, this rule was short-lived, and in 1987 Andrew, members of the government and much of the population evacuated for South Africa, leaving the throne vacant. Officially, Southern England's constitution has renamed it a Republic, and refuses to acknowledge Andrew as King, waiting for what they see as a legitimate successor to the British Royal Family. Outside sources have commented this could take form from the Cleveland-Northumbrian royalty, or a home-grown monarch.
