In 1868, a Japanese emperor named Meiji took the throne. This period of industrialization became known as the Meiji Restoration, leading them to an era of Imperialism. But, what if this never happened? What if emperor Meiji had been assassinated? Well, I guess it's time to find out.

1860 Assassination of Emperor Meiji

In 1868 Emperor Meiji of Japan took over the throne as in OTL. However, in 1870 Emperor Meiji begins to make new reforms such as, industrialization, westernization, and giving citizens more rights. A group of traditional Japanese living in Japan didn't like this so, the sent an assassin to kill the emperor. In 1871 they succed in killing the emperor.
