Alexey Maximovich Peshkov, primarily known as Maxim Gorky was a Russian writer. His famous works were The Lower Depths, Twenty-Six Men and a Girl,The Song of the Stormy Petrel, The Mother, The Children of the Sun, and Summerfolk.

Gorky was also a pro-Social Democratic activist and a vocal critic of the czarist government. For some time, he was involved with the Bolsheviks.
