Marie Alexandrine Elisabeth Eleonore von Mecklenburg-Schwerin, known as (Duchess Marie of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, 1854-1884; Queen Marie of Great Britain, 1884-1897; Empress Marie of France and Catalonia, 1899-1913) was born a duchess of the Grand Ducal House of Mecklenburg to Frederick Francis II, Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin - the then Grand Duke of Mecklenburg -Schwerin and his first wife, Princess Augusta of Reuss-Köstritz in 1854. In 1877, she was married to Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught and Strathearn ( later Arthur I). In 1897, they were divorced, and the divorce became a national scandal. She later married Napoléon IV, the bachelor ruler of he Empire of France and Catalonia (1756 World), in 1899.
