The Lost Emotion - Kogasa

World as of 2013 (Click twice to enlarge).

In this timeline, the Mononobe Shogunate saw a new power change in 1810, as opposed to waiting until Shogun Mononobe Kiyohito steps down in 1815. However, instead of the Rokkaku Shogunate coming into power, the Satomi Clan makes a comeback and re-establishes the Satomi Shogunate. The reformed Shogunate brought back Buddhism, and also kept up with industrialising. All of the remaining Japanese colonies, except Kochiya, declared independence sometime before 1820. In Europe, the German Empire invaded Saxony and Bayern in 1820, and won this time around. As a result Bayern and Saxony were annexed, along with most of their overseas territories. Bayern's Indonesia and Australia colony declared independence.

Meanwhile in 1830, Orissa invaded the German territories in India again and won, after much preparation. Ethiopia expanded more into Africa, and began to take some European colonies along.

In 1835, Kasodani invaded the Mayan Empire's California colony, and managed to win most of it. A few years later, New Manchuria and Baitudu invaded and destroyed Kasodani. Soon, said Chinese colonies declared independence in 1840 and formed Kǎsīkǎidíyà (Cascadia).

In 1850, the Dominion of Neu Berlin managed to annex the Italian and Portuguese colonies in Hakurei (Japanese name for North America), and later managed to purchase the French colonies. Soon they get into a cold war with the Ethiopian colonies in the North along with Scandinavia.

In 1851, Empress Go-Shōtoku became Empress of Japan. She managed to oversee some reforms and the slow transition to democracy. However, the Japanese Buddhist-Taoist War in the 1870s had torn Japan up so bad, that it collapsed. In 1880, Japan was invaded by Ethiopia and Germany. As a result, Ethiopia managed to gain Okinawa and Kyushu, while Germany gained Shikoku and Honshu. The remains of Japan were taken over by the Rokkaku clan and established the Empire of Reiuzi, which controls Hokkaido, Karafuto, the Seikaku Islands (OTL Chishima/Kuril), and Reiuzi (OTL Kamchatka and other parts of the Russian Far East). Empress Go-Shōtoku had fled to the Republic of Byakuren as well.

In Africa, Ethiopia managed to conquer most of Southern Africa, up until around Angola-Mozambique, and most of West Africa also fell to Ethiopia. Meanwhile, Kazami had merged into the Federal Republic of Tojiko, and Egypt's South Africa colony took the rest of South Africa.

In Amazonia, the Empire of Brazil declared independence sometime in 1870 and went on to conquer the German, Indian and Italian colonies/puppets with the help of Colombia (formerly part of France until 1860).

In 1900, the Fourth/Fifth World War broke out, with the Allies (Germany, Russia, France, Italy, Brazil, Mayan Empire, and the Republic of Byakuren), on one side and the Central Powers (Scandinavia, Wales, Cyprus, Mali, Ethiopia, and India) on the other. The Allies won and had taken large pieces of lands. Scandinavia collapsed, Wales was Balkanised, the Netherlands declared independence, Brittany went back to France, and a few other things.

Later, in 1910, Kǎsīkǎidíyà was invaded by Neu Berlin and after seven years, was conquered. Mali was also annexed into Ethiopia in 1915 after interfering in the Mali Civil War.

In 1930, Italy suffered a revolution, and a year later, Siam and other Italian puppets/colonies in South East Asia declared independence and went into a union with Myanmar (except for the Italian colony in Papua). China also suffered a revolution and a huge civil war. The New Harbin colony attempted to declare independence, but was invaded and annexed by the Mayan Empire.

Since 1940, the Cold War rose between the Comintern (Italy, China, Egypt, Arabia, East African Federation), the French-Portuguese Alliance (Portugal, France, Brazil, Colombia, Argentina), the Asian-African Co-Prosperity Sphere (India, Ethiopia, Indonesia, and Cambodia), and the Allies (Russia, Germany, Neu Berlin, Mayan Empire, Federal Republic of Tojiko-Kazami). Meanwhile Switzerland, Selk'nam, the Republic of Byakuren, the Myanmar-Siam Union, and Persia form the Non-Aligned Movement.

In 1990, the Perishable Revolutions took place almost around the world. Some new nations had formed, and the Comintern nations transitioned to Democracy. As for Communist China, it reformed its government to the Chinese Government of OTL. Meanwhile New Gondar (Ethiopian Japan) was invaded and conquered by Neu Hannover (German Japan). Kǎsīkǎidíyà again declared independence and is ruled by a Fascist Government led by Chinese.

By modern day, Germany, Neu Berlin, China, Russia, India, and Brazil are the superpowers. The Cold War has ended with all nations co-operating with each other and such.

The main characters in the Touhou Project are Hata no Kokoro and Koishi Komeiji. The characters from Embodiment of Scarlet Devil and Ten Desires do not exist, except for Toyosatomimi no Miko (who becomes an Extra Stage Boss in Undefined Fantastic Object), and Mamizou Futatsuiwa (who appeared in Double Dealing Character, and is still a friend of Nue Houjuu). Said games were replaced by Mystical Power Plant and Concealed the Conclusion, respectively.

Tonight, We Dine in the Shade - Scraw

Dine In the Shade

In this PMII ATL, the German Empire and its allies emerge victorious in the Great Global War of 1772. A famous unknown general rallied his losing troops outside Berlin, echoing the words spoken by Spartan King Leonidas III hundreds of years before him. They force the enemy back but this general is killed in the defense of Berlin. Now re-energized, the Germanic Reich forces its will south and quickly invades and conquers Dresden, Munich and Amsterdam in quick succession, followed by Luxembourg extending into France and regaining its lost territory in Picardy. A decade later, the Germanic Reich emerges stronger than ever and sets out to destroy its enemies and betraying allies. Wales and France are the first targets of the Reich. Avalon fails to put up a good fight since the English are more than ready to throw off their oppressive Celtic rulers, and the Reich annexes its fellow Germanic brothers in England, and Avalon is burned to the ground. France, however, puts up a better fight, and is only defeated when re-inforcements are called up from the Balkans. After France is destroyed, Mysore and Orientalia attack Orissa, aiming to end their power on the subcontinent and on a global scale. Orissa is reduced to Sindhustan and Rajputana, and Hinduism is outlawed in Mysore and Orientalia. Soon however, colonies of Italia, Russia and China revolt on the North American continent. Neu Berlin manages to invade and conquer the Italian and Russian lands.

By 1850, the Reich controls Europe west of Russia and north of Italy and Portugal. Georgia takes a risky move and invades the Arabian Federation, with the backing of Ethiopia. Two decades later, however, a true Global War breaks out. The Republic of New China (New Manchuria, New Harbin, Baitudu) invades Japanese Kasodani. The Mayan Empire takes its side, but the Germanic Reich takes the side of the defenders. China and Russia, long standing allies of the Reich, follow suit. Eventually, Neu Prussen comes to control the Caribbean, and the Antillian continent is a massive high tension zone between the Reich and the Mayans.

By modern day (sorry, I got lazy), the world is in a Cold War between the Reich, Russia and China, while the rest world is divided between these hyperpowers. These hyperpowers are truly hyperpowers, in every sense of the word, even extending their reach beyond this green planet.

It's a Technocratic World - Imp

The Technocratic World

Note: This is the rudimentary map: The Technocratic WorldIt does not have all the elements completed.

In a world where Socialism has won out, not Capitalism, the situation could never be more unsure. Since the outright victory of the allies in the ten-year war, or the war of 1772-82, due to Orissa declaring outright war and helping to destroy Germany, the world goes on to change more than anyone imagined.

With the destruction of Germany, Saxony and Bavaria claim all the land and go onto unite into one nation through Personal Union. The angry new nation burns many elements of the previous government and establishes a new capital for its nation, Berlin. The former German Royal Family flees hurriedly to Neu Berlin, which becomes their new home. From there, the nations recover from the war, before Wales goes onto attack the Dutch. The nations which fought in the previous war looked on, too exhausted to declare war. The Welsh manage to take over the majority of the Dutch nation, yet in the South - the state still survived. When the Welsh declared war 10 years later, United Germany and its allies the United Maharajya and Imperium Axum were not so lenient.

The Welsh were defeated swiftly and harshly. Their mainland was quickly placed under German control, with the Germans quickly moving in as protectors of the Netherlands, with their Royal Family killed by the Welsh in the war. The next in line were the United German Family, who quickly added the nation into their fold. The United Maharajya regained many of its lands and gained a few more, while the Imperium Axumites gained land.

And then began the age of expansion and discovery.

Countries expanded, colonies were bought and sold - profits were made. In Antillia, the Chinese expanded - and so did the Japanese. Neu Brandenburg on the other hand was quick to take control of the former Russian colony in the area, followed by the buying of the Portuguese colony. Its population boomed as a steady stream of colonists arrived from Germany - those who did not like the current ruling family.

Yet the world would be rocked by the Second World War. In 1842, the Mayans moved in to take over the Italian colony. They found an unlikely ally in the Russians. With their help, they captured much of Italian Antillia. The Neu Brandenbergers cleverly stayed neutral in the war, focusing on expansion of their lands. However, Italia would respond, followed by the Maharajya and the Byzantines. In an accident, Maharajyan troops would cross into Portuguese territory, which led to Portugal declaring war on them. However, they would be no match for the coalition and at the end of the war, the Russians would lose their remaining colony, while the Mayans would be destroyed. The Portuguese would come out with the least lost - staying on the defensive most of the war.

Yet the war would take a heavy toll and would bring about the rise of Technocracy.

With the end of the war, nations began to rebuild. Ethiopia and Orissa entered a Personal Union when the Emperor and Maharani married. This brought about quite a few problems in the nations. To solve this, a united language which had been in the pipelines was worked on and made the official language of the Union. All schools had to teach the language as a first, not second language, along with Hindi in Orissa and Armidic in Ethiopia.

From there onward, Socialism would grip first Italia, then the Union of Axum and the Maharajya and eventually Japan. The neutrality of Germany to world affairs would save it for a while, and France's location would benefit it greatly. However, things soon changed for them too. The Russian Empire had steadily been expanding, gobbling up states in Central Asia, and indoctrinating them in the ways of individualism and orthodoxy. Islam had been banned in the Empire following a resurgent Arabia (which collapsed soon after the second world war) and the nations' new citizens were eager to prove themselves. They got the chance when United Germania was invaded in large force. Despite superior numbers, good planning and strategies helped the Germans win many battles. In the end some land was lost, but the nation survived. France in this period also saw war as its colony in Antillia was invaded. Fighting overseas, the nation could not keep supplies running to the colony, which fell due to a blockade by Neu Brandenberger forces, along with an invasion.

Socialism in all these countries began to play a major part in the people's lives.

On the other hand, Neu Brandenburg and Cascadia grew closer, as China, Russia and Neu Brandenburg increased trade and power. Portugal too began to align itself to these powers. Where in other countries Socialism was beginning to take hold, these countries saw the rise of Individualism. The belief that any man can make it big if he worked hard enough helped many people connect with this.

Meanwhile, in the Union of Axum and the Maharajya - as the nation expanded so did the area they had to govern. This led to a huge number of Orissans migrating to Africa to help colonise parts with little people and help set up businesses and extract the minerals from the ground. The country was rife with Socialist ideas, with plurocontinentalism keeping the whole nation together. In German territories, many moved to Africa or Australasia in search of new jobs, leading to their population booming. France too saw the same happened as its people colonised Atlantia and North Africa in heavy numbers. This lead to German and French territories having at least 40% of their population being white. Italia saw a huge boom in Antillia as its people, too, headed toward the new nation in large numbers to start new lives.

Yet everything was about to change, as the Third World War began.

On a fateful day in April 1875, Neu Brandenburg moved into the Japanese colony on the Pacific coast to get an access to the Pacific. This got a rapid response from Japan and its close ally the Union of Axum and the Maharajya. However, the Chinese too attacked looking for the remainder of Sakhalin from the Japanese, followed by the Russians attacking the Far East Republic. Japan and its ally were in a tough position, looking to fight back but forced to go the defensive. Things changed when Russia rolled into Romania, waking the sleeping powerhouse. Portugal got pressured into joining and attacked the French and their colonies, and Germania knew they had to get into the act to save themselves. 12 bloody years of war would see all sides heavily exhausted, but the Japanese, Italians and their close allies, who would form the Pact in the middle of the war, would push back Russia mile by mile. When Moscow was captured, Russia was forced onto the negotiating table.

The terms were fought over and hard pressed. In Antillia, the Neu Brandenbergers didn't lose anything, they gained a slice of the Japanese colony, but had to pay reparations to the colony and the Italian nation to the south. Portugal lost some amount of land in Atlantia, but nothing major. Russia lost land, however. In the Far East, the small state of the Far East would gain land and move their borders upward, while in the Crimea, a state for Jews was created when the murder of their kind came to the attention of the Pact. Over 1.5 Million Jews were needlessly killed by the Russians as they were blamed when the attacks failed. China lost a lot in the war. Large portions of the colony in Alaska was broken up and made independent, with a small rump state to the North left under their control. They also lost land in the South to Siam and Khmer state.

The war saw many new inventions. Naval battlecruisers appeared in massive sizes, and took part in huge engagements, while the first Tanks rolled out of the Italian side, which were quickly duplicated around the world. The Russians took the design of the tank and did what they do best, made it massive. Their Behemoths truly were formidable in battle, but they lost the ability to turn quickly and were lost in great numbers when ambushed. In 1877, four brothers in the Union of Axum and the Maharajya had built the first heavier-than-air craft to fly. This was quickly researched and put into production to fly in the war by 1881. This allowed the Union a whole new superiority and helped track enemy movements. It took time for other members of the Pact to duplicate the designs, along with the enemy. But by the end of the war, the first aircraft carriers were coming out of dry docks to engage in the battles.

But the war had come at a massive cost. 225 Million lives had been lost in the 12 years of fighting and had caused the world huge amounts of damage. Many nations began to grow unstable and the people got angry with the large loss of life. Socialist governments got more power, and the era of Socialism around the world began. In the losers' camp, Individualism evolved into Capitalism and helped stabilise the nation. Ironically, Russia would become the leader of the Capitalist side, while China and Neu Bradenburg would follow suit. Portugal would also become Capitalists as its merchants saw the ideology beneficial.

Japan had also lost much of its Royal Family in attacks carried out by the Russians, and the remaining Royal Family married into the Union and Japan became part of it. The united language evolved as a result, with linguists working out the simplest combination of all three languages. This new language would replace the old language and become the new first language to be taught in schools. It would be a tricky time, but good leadership would get the nation through.

By the 1920s, the world had calmed down. The Socialist governments began to evolve. In Italia, this transition was bloody as the Socialist government ruled with an iron fist. The people protested and an uprising broke out - leading into civil war. Four years of the nation's history would be wasted in the fighting. Eventually, the people would win and a constitution would be written, only allowing those qualified and intelligent enough to be elected to power. Italia would be the first technocracy in the world. The Union of the Star would be the next to become technocratic, as the people elected those willing to create a new constitution. The last to follow would be Germania and France and would all become Technocratic. The Pact would rename itself to the Technocratic Pact and would be in fierce competition with the Capitalist Alliance.

What would happen next would bring the world closest to World War IV it has ever been. The small breakaways in Antillia would unite under a Fascist leader and would militarise the whole nation. They would go on to invade Neu Brandenburg (which by this time contained the former Chinese colony which had joined with them). They would be the first to utilise jet-powered aircraft and would rock the Star state of Kasodani too, bringing the Union into the war. However, an accidental attack on one of the Neu Brandenberger outposts by Union troops would bring a counter-attack. The commanders realised what had happened and had ordered a cease-fire, letting both sides realise that it was a case of friendly fire. The Fascist state would be defeated and Neu Brandenburg would take up its mandate, absorbing them 70 years later.

Competition between the two blocks would be fierce. The Capitalists would get the first man in Space in 1947, and the first manned orbit around the moon in 1951, but it would be the Technocratists who would land the first man on the moon in 1955. The Capitalists would follow suit in 1956 and the race for the first to reach Mars would begin. When two missions from the Capitalists side failed in 1962 and 1964, and one from the Technocratists in 1964, the sides would realise they would need to work together. The two sides would accomplish wonders together and the first humans would land on Mars in 1969. From there each side would go to build their own settlements on the Red Planet. However, the Pact shifted gears and began to focus on Venus instead. They had realised that the planet could not be habitable in 1956 itself, but curiosity would get the better of them and they would send manned missions around the Planet in the 70s.

The planet would also be altered by the humans. In Africa, the Sahara would be experimented on using methods of cloud seeding. Many disasters would occur, but by the 80s, the humans would manage to master the rains in the area and it would be changed to make it suitable to grow crops. The same would happen in Australia too. Meanwhile in Space, massive Orbital Stations would be constructed and would use spin to create artificial gravity. Venus would continue to attract most of the attention of the scientist and massive rays would begin to harvest the carbon dioxide to break it apart into carbon gas and oxygen. The remaining carbon dioxide would be transported to Mars and used there.

By the late 90s, Neu Brandenburg and Germania would begin to reconcile, beginning talks and increasing trade in their respective nations. The two would grow close once more. Meanwhile, the planet would come to be dominated by one hyperpower, the Union of the Star. A common language would be spoken in its realms and its people would mix. No one area has a clear majority of ethnicity. In former Axum, there is a vast mix of Orissan and Ethiopian people, with significant number of Japanese descendants. In former Japan, there is a vast of Orissan and Japanese people with a large number of Ethiopian peoples. In the Maharajya, there is a large mix of peoples' too, with no place not being visible to have different ethnicities.

The world is an uncertain place, but it is healing. The Technocratic Pact and the Capitalist Alliance are taking part in joint exercises. Thorium is powering the world's cities, freeing up the oil for space travel. People are colonising Mars and huge space docks construct the needs of the materials needed for the Venusian Project. The world is an uncertain place, but it could never be more certain that things will get better.

Welsh-French Conflicts -  Sine

2012B

WFC

This one is pretty simple. In this case, France enters into a more proactive campaign against Welsh presence in Gaul territory and by 1808 a war broke out in which France - with the aid of Orissa and a Germanica - manage to strongly defeat the Welsh. It recovers Brittany from the Welsh and gains Puerto Rico and Welsh Argentina while the Orissans for some time get the colonies of the Welsh in Oceania and Germanica gains the other Antillian holdings and occupy England and Scotland. However, in 1815 the Ethiopian war sparks as Germanica and China attack as pre-emptive situation Ethiopia's empire managing to make a fair defeat conquering their farthest territories. France remains neutral after entering the war for one year and getting Normandy and bargaining themselves for peace. In 1825 the French invade Greece and their colony of Nea Lefkosa, forcing by 1830 after a reluctant response from the Italians to aid the Greeks in their war. After the success from the French was crushing the Greeks fight, and the only real gain from this is the colony. In 1833 Germanica collapses after a complete invasion of their territories is perpetrated by the Bavarians and Saxons with aid of France, Orissa and the Welsh. In the peace treaty Neu Berlin gets independence, while their Northern Canadian territories are ceded to France and part to the Welsh. Persia grows strong by 1851 after conquering and unifying the Middle Eastern territories. However, their position is threatened by the Levantines, by 1853 entering to war with them and crushing the nation after a successful victory in Antioch. However, the greedy Persian Empire fights the Greeks in 1865 losing the newly gained parts as the Levantines wished a more indulgent nation to hold them. The Greeks fulfill this task and by 1871 the Byzantine Empire is remade again and it returns to its original borders for its most in 1874. Rebellions occur all over the Italian Empire and Southern Yugoslavia. Bulgaria joins the Byzantines, while Romania and Hungary ask for Russian aid. In Europe Italy's empire is finished and due to French-Italian war, the French gained some territory from them. However, Nuovo Italia becomes a Commonwealth republic for the Italians and OTL Australia is mostly another commonwealth nation of the Italians who still keep a lot of power. In 1898 the First World War (like OTL in that sense) occurs as Italy attacks Carthage. In dynastic union with the French empire, the conflict escalates as Greeks and Scandinavians join the side of Italy. While on the French side, the Germans and the Russians join. The war ends in 1904 after six years of war and the loss of Switzerland to the French from the Italians and Prussia to the Germans from Scandinavia and northern Scandinavia from the Russians to the Scandinavians. With this, the French as well get stronger control from the Scandinavian claims in North America. The Greeks lose some land to the Mayans who sided with the French. The next world war occurs in 1918-1923 after the Russians defend from a Greek campaign to gain control of Romania, Transcaucasia and Crimea from the Russians and the Persians. The French join to aid the Russians as well as Wales and Germany while Italy, Greece and now the Arab federation declares war on Persia and the French Axis. The war ends as a stalemate for most of the members but the Greeks whose fleet is destroyed and Constantinople is ephemerally taken and the war reparations put on their economy. This is what triggers a third world war in 1932 after a Greek uprising forming the Byzantine Republic which soon invades its unique ally which is Italy getting Yugoslavia and southern Italy. However, Italy and its new found allies Wales and France aid them putting down the Greek threat and restarting the Byzantine empire. From then on the colonial empires began collapsing and most of the world is linked to a parent nation as members of a commonwealth or through vassalage.

Nostalgic Empires of the East ~ Old World - Kogasa

World as of 2013.

In this timeline, Goguryeo decided to conquer the rest of the Korean Kingdoms in 477, and soon grew in power. Goguryeo would continue to expand and thrive. In the Indian subcontinent, the Maurya Empire had also managed to hold itself together and survive. With that, the Maurya Empire expanded its influence greatly to as far east as Papua and as far west as Persia. Hinduism would also spread to as far as China, while Taoism would spread as far as Malaysia. Even more, the Norse colony in North America became successful, and the Viking Age in Scandinavia would continue to thrive.

Later, in 1000, the Liao Dynasty attempted to invade Goguryeo, which failed. Soon the Koreans over time would expand into Siberia, including taking the island of Karafuto and even going as far as taking Hokkaido (홋카이도). Meanwhile the Maurya Empire had conquered the Himalayas along with parts of Tibet. The Vikings in Europe resisted the spread of Christianity, and also had conquered Scotland.

By the 1200s, the Mongol Empire emerged in Asia. However, they were not able to conquer either Korea nor China, but managed to conquer large parts of Central Asia, and expanded as far as Eastern Europe before their collapse in 1290.

During the time Columbus came around, most of the Americas were already divided between the Norse, the Koreans (who discovered it the 1350s), and Chinese. The Spanish managed to colonise the Caribbean and most of Central and parts of North America, while the Portuguese would barely manage to colonise a piece of South America. North America and South America are called North and South Vinland respectively. Then around the mid 1550s, the Russians ran into Korean Siberia, and launched a war against them. The attack was unsuccessful, and the Koreans took some Russian land.

In 1592, Toyotomi Hideyoshi launched an invasion of Korea, which was not only unsuccessful, but the Koreans invaded and annexed most of Japan, leaving behind a Greater Kyoto as a rump state. Meanwhile the Maurya Empire resisted European attempts at colonisation quite well. The Norse continued to build their empire well, and had managed to conquer the rest of the British Isles.

Later in the 1670s, the Industrial Revolution occurred in Korea, China and the Maurya Empire soon spreading to other parts of the world. When the Napoleonic Wars came around, the Norse sided with the Coalition and managed to defeat France. Following this, the French Region of Brittany was annexed by the Norse.

In modern day, the Maurya Empire (now the Republic of India), Song Dynasty, the Korean Empire, and the Norse Empire are the superpowers. Hinduism, Taoism, Buddhism are the major religions of the world, with some Paganism surviving and thriving like the Norse and Finnish Paganism in the Nordic Region.

The main characters of the Touhou Project are Byakuren Hijiri (who is a Hindu, instead of Buddhist) and Seiga Kaku.

Everything that Kills Me Makes Me Feel Alive ~ Imp

Heavy WIP

Unlabelled map: Makes Me Feel Alive (Map Contest)

Ashoka the Great. The ruler who decided the way of peace is better than violence and became a Buddhist could have accomplished a great more if what didn't kill him from the inside, actually made him feel alive. Remaining a staunchly aggressive emperor, policies of spreading Hinduism to the surrounding areas would be enacted. A clear line of succession would be established, future rulers would have to learn all matters relating to kingship and an advisory would be established to get the peoples' views straight to the leader - headed by Brahmin priests to make sure no power grab was enacted under the ruler who felt death was just a consequence of ruling. The Arthashastra would become the main book for royalty with Ashoka seeking answers to his questions in the guide.

His successors would competent due to his actions, and if not - they would be removed by the advisory. Rebellions would be effectively crushed and the empire would remain strong and united. Stability would give the chance for sciences and the collective knowledge of the people to flourish. The Empire would expand, crushing the remaining Greek states to the west and the barbaric tribes to the north. Eventually, the empire's energies would be focused southward. Such a large empire would prompt democratic actions and the empire would slowly see democratisation of certain aspects.

The Mongols would capture much territories against the Mauya Empire, but its forces would destroy much of the invading armies. The Caliphate would also never managed to expand eastward and more trouble would be stirred in Europe. However, less of the Mongols would mean the moors would never be able to hold any land in Europe and would be forced back to the Maghreb and Arabia.

The world would be colonised earlier, with East-West conflict over spices becoming more heated and bloody. Ironically, a Mongol state would exist due to the weakness of their armies. Russia would never have nearly as many nationalities as OTL, while certain countries not existing at all. On our hands, we have a world hungry for resources going into space to satisfy these desires. The world is completely different because what should have killed Ashoka from the inside, only made him feel alive.

But something crucial is about to take place. It is 1983, and one man faces a monumental decision, a decision which could change the course of history ...

Sound of War Labelled w Title

Map, Labelled with Title

The POD in this timeline is the Mongol defeat of Japan, which allows them to make greater gains in Asia and later in Europe. The Mongols survive what would have been their fracturing. Meanwhile in Europe, the Balkans are conquered by forces from the Golden Horde and the Ilkhanate, so the Golden Horn falls under Mongol rule. After the death of Ogedei, Kublai Khan is elected Great Khan and he centralized the Mongol Empire while also creating smaller Khanates within it.

The Mongols then go on to discover the New World in 1311, finding coast-to-coast Mayans on the Pacific coast in OTL Mexico. They begin to colonize the Americas and sooner or later conquer and vanquish the Mayans, replacing them with a noble named Aztec, who becomes the Khan of the Aztakhanate. The news of this discovery spreads to Europe by the early 1400s, and the Frankish Kingdom (the Carolingians) and the English also set out to colonize the Atlantic coast of the Americas. Europe also consolidates under four major powers: the Franks, Aragon, England, and Venice. The Papal States, Austria, and Hungary stay as outliers in Europe, and soon Nordica is formed by people of Viking descent. Colonization of the Americas become a major aim for Europe, hoping to beat Mongol presence on the continents. North America becomes known as Aztakh and South America as Nova Aragon. The Aragonese and Frankish take control of Nova Aragon (Aragonese land > Frankish land) and the Franks and English take control of eastern Aztakh. Around the 1500s, some Mongols begin to slowly convert to Islam and later become Muslim in the western parts (Russian lands, Anatolia, Balkans, Persia, northern India). In the late 1700s, a poor man named Napoleon Bonaparte from the southern areas of the Frankish Empire leads a peasant revolt against the corrupt Carolingians and soon becomes the emperor himself. He leads a massive expansion campaign into surrounding states and conquers Germany and Denmark. He then takes a risky move by invading England (which by now encompasses all of Britain), his northern neighbor in Europe and Aztakh both. He conquers Britain on a global scale and confirms the power of the Bonaparte Dynasty.
However, this new found era of peace and tranquility does not last long and Napoleon II becomes known in history as the man who started the First Global War. He set out to invade and conquer Aragon and Venice, hoping to conquer and unite Europe against the Mongols. However, this war is turned on its head when the Mongols launch a second invasion of Europe, causing all the European powers to fall in on the same side. Eventually, the Mongols put the Europeans on the peace table and get lands in Eastern Europe.

The Empire of Evil -- Reximus55

Empire of Evil I understand that the prompt was Ancient Empires, but from my young adult perspective, the Empire of Evil was ancient enough. That's right, this is all about the Soviet Empire.

It seems to me that the Map Contest was dying a bit, so when the vote to bring it back to life came up, I voted for it. Originally, I was intending to make maps for each contest, but that is a tall order, and I never got around to completing a single map.

Well, here you have it folks, simple, clean, logical:

The exact Point of Divergence really doesn't matter. This particular scenario is more or less the result of an entirely different system of economics, where socialism and Communism really do work, and capitalism leads to inevitable collapse of a nation's economic wealth.

The first major difference came sometime after 1963, and sometime before 1983. This was the peak of the Cold War, and also the peak of the Evil Empire. The Soviets had just managed to infiltrate Sweden and Finland, and then used their bases to launch an attack on Germany. World War III had begun.

With the invasion of West Berlin and West Germany by superior Soviet forces, the American leadership wavered. They knew that world war was upon them, but they decided against the use of the entirety of the American military arsenal in Germany.

This decision turned out to be beneficial to the Americans, but by the time the bulk of the American troops got to Europe, Germany had already been reunited under a Communist banner. Switzerland and Austria both quickly submitted to the Soviets.

Soviet Troops helped the Irish take Northern Ireland from the British, and also installed a Communist regime in France, while establishing friendly dictatorships in Belgium, the Netherlands and Spain.

A reluctant Italy was forced to enter the Soviet sphere, and Yugoslavia, Greece and Albania all fell to pro-Soviet leaders and military strategists.

By the time the Soviets got around to taking out Portugal, the Americans had already conceded.

The Americans realized that the Soviets had great odds of winning in Europe, so the military leadership launched a huge mission to Israel, to ensure that "the bastion of liberty can still shine over the holy land." When Israel became a member of NATO, many Middle Eastern nations immediately turned against the US. Communist Yemen conquered a large part of US-backed Arabia.

Morocco, which remained loyal to the US and the democratic factions, managed to hold its own, largely due to deals made with Portugal, and managed to hold out until the final peace treaty was made.

The Soviet leaders had reconciled privately with the Chinese and the Chinese re-entered the Soviet sphere at the start of World War III. India also favored Russia, giving the Communists a large advantage.

The four major campaigns in Asia were the Korean campaign, the Taiwan campaign, the Japan campaign, and the Turkish campaign. Korea put up a strong fight, but were under-prepared to face the entire Chinese Red Army, and Seoul quickly fell. No US re-inforcements arrived on time.

In Taiwan, the main city of Taipei was under assault from a naval barrage for three weeks before a US force landed on the island. At this point, Korea had already fallen, and China was dedicating everything they had into the battles in Taiwan. Needless to say, the Chinese won.

In Japan, the Japanese armed forces surrendered without a fight, a vast contrast to their once great bushido culture. In Turkey, NATO preparations couldn't be prepared for an invasion not only from Russia but also from Iraq and Syria, so the fall of Istanbul and Ankara were simplified greatly.

On the Pacific front, New Zealand fell to internal Communist pressure, Indonesia's dictator began a Communist expansion into neighboring states, and Australia fell victim to economic collapse and eventually surrendered to the Soviet Union in exchange for meager food for subsistence.

After subduing most of Europe, the operational focus of the USSR was to seize as much of the Americas as possible, and take the fighting to the New World. Russian Spetsnaz took Alaska and began to re-integrate the state into the Russian SFSR as soon as fighting broke out. Troops dispatched to Alaska were quickly recalled and sent to Brazil, where pro-Communist forces had seized Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo.

As Argentina and Chile pulled out of relations with the US, Gran Colombia was formed under a Communist ruler, and Peru expanded into the US stronghold of Ecuador. Combat raged in Mexico, right outside of the US, when a socialist government came to power and attempted to stifle all democracy.

In Paraguay and Bolivia, the two nations combined in order to prevent further incursions. They managed to hold out until the US negotiated peace with the USSR.

Following World War III, a new era dawned. Globalization, and with it the ever-increasing Soviet promise of unification and One World Government became a reality. This period, called Pax Sovietica, is still ongoing to this very day.

People in the Communist nations enjoy many great socialist benefits, and they live luxurious lifestyles. Meanwhile, Americans and others who refused to accept Communism ended up at the servitude of the Communist Bloc nations.

The World-Government, the Union of Soviet Socialist Nations (USSN) is very effective at executing the desires of the leaders of the Russian Soviet Executive, and administers issues between SFSRs with extreme skill.

Technology is doing extremely well, and hybrid/hydrogen/bio-cell vehicles and modes of energy are the three most common types of power on Earth. A recent manned mission to Mars was considered "humanity's greatest capstone" but others plan to eventually send a colony to Mars in the next three centuries.

Pax Sovietica is here to stay! The Evil Empire (American Capitalism) is no more!

MAPCONTEST (Map Contest)

The Modern World

You quote my favorite song lines, Imp, and I'll quote yours =) In this ATL, Ivan III dies in 1466 due to alcoholism. His sucession is challenged and the Golden Horde is never overthrown and lasts to the modern day. The big blue thing in North America is called Scrawland.

POD: Yeah, I already said this.

History: In 1492, the Golden Horde, last remnant of the Mongol Hordes, came under the control of a new general, who led them in campaigns against Germany and Austria - the Holy Roman Empire. After over 30 years, the armies of Germany had been defeated and the hordes of the Horde were moving in. Among the many who fled West was one Johannes von Scraw, who went North, to the Kalmar Union. There, hearing tales of an ancient trip one of their own had taken to a land far away, von Scraw felt that this would be a place for all refugees to go to. In 1523, he set out with seven ships, each crammed to the rafters with refugees to desperate for anything else. Though most expected them to die, they in fact landed in the OTL Hudson bay. Von Scraw returned to tell of the land, and thousands more fled the Old World for the safer, newer one. Von Scraw lived to see his dream of a refuge come true, dying in peace in 1534. Shortly after, a name was agreed upon for the Continent; Scrawland.

As the Golden Hordes spread over Europe, Iberia and France unite, as does the Islamic world. China, too, is an Imperial power here, as is Japan, with Europe somewhat less so. However, Golden Horde has been collapsing, losing land in wars with the Caliphate, Japan and in an independence war with Siberia. Colonial powers still exist. And all this horror might never have occurred - if Ivan had put down his fist full of whiskey.

Sleepless Night of the Eastern European Country -Kogasa

World as of 2013.

In this timeline, the White Russians win the Civil War and prevented Communism from gaining a foothold. Meanwhile in the late 1920s, the United States turns Communist. Russia also improves its relations with Japan. Soon when the Second World War comes around, the Russians fight against Germany as normal. Japan doesn't attack Pearl Harbor and thus the United States doesn't enter the war in the Pacific. Soon in 1945, Germany is defeated and split as usual, while in Asia, Japan is successful.

The Cold War emerges with the Russian-Dai-tō-a Alliance against the Paris Pact on the other side. The Russians and Japanese manage to stay a step ahead of the United States, and manage to get a Man on the Moon first. Soon in the 1980s, the Paris Pact falls apart, Communist West Germany falls under Democratic East German rule, and the United States collapses in 1989.

By 2013, the European Union composed of the United Kingdom, Ireland, Scandinavia, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Yugoslavia, Greece, Austria, Hungary, Benelux, Germany, France, and Russia.

The Superpowers in the World are Russia and Japan and both maintain a close alliance. Mexico, Brazil and India become the new potential superpowers.

The Main Characters in the Touhou Project are Aya Shameimaru and Mononobe no Futo.

For the Motherland! - Scraw

For the Motherland! Labelled Map (Map Contest) Obviously, the Tsarists win the civil war. This has great impacts on World War I, bringing greater gains to a democratically reformed Russia, and imposing greater land losses on Germany and Austria-Hungary. This, in turn, causes less gain for France, which soon collapses under a Communist revolt. The Communist wave sweeps through Germany and then Austria, while Russia continues to make more groundbreaking democratic reforms. During this period, Japan launches an invasion of China, conquering it while it is still in massive disarray.

Tsar Nicholas II has another son, Alexander, and he goes on to rule as Alexander IV in the days leading up to the Second World War. The Comintern Pact is formed by France, Germany and Austria, while the Allies are Russia, Italy and Britain. The war starts as France invades Belgium and Luxembourg, while Germany invades the Netherlands and Bohemia with Austria. The British and Italians quickly jump to their defense, with the Russians following suit. Japan, seeing an opportunity to make greater gains than it already has, invades Russia, dividing the Russian attention on two fronts. Soon, the Comintern conquers its neighbors and next launches a massive blitz into Italy, crippling the Allied war effort. All hope seems lost until the Japanese attack Pearl Harbor, dragging the United States into the war, revitalizing the Allies. Soon, the Comintern is defeated, and France is divided north-south (Britain-America-Russia) while Germany is split east-west (Russia-America). Russia also sets up puppet governments in Korea and Japan, while taking much of China.

Soon, a Cold War develops between America and Russia. Britain slowly begins to lose its colonial empire, and India is one of the first. Russia and America both see a chance to gain a new powerful ally. However, when India begins to have internal tensions, America backs off, while Russia supports the rebels, eventually creating Pakistan, which invades and conquers Afghanistan. When Bengal then proceeds to revolt from Pakistan, America supports this, creating a giant tension sphere in the Indian region.

Since France has been divided and conquered, its colonies overseas begin to slowly receive independence. One of the first is Indochina. Indochina quickly collapses into several different states which war against each other for five years in a great war known as the Indochina War (1947 - 1952). Vietnam emerges on top, controlling its neighbors and invades Siam, conquering it as well.

In the next thirty years, many events come close to bringing a nuclear apocalypse on the globe. However, in 1983, the Irish rebel against the British, after centuries of British rule. The Russians publicly support the Irish, causing great tensions between east and west. However, despite American efforts, Britain crumbles and leaves behind Ireland (Russia), Scotland (America), and England (America). Canada was also a major battleground, with the Quebecois fighting for independence. In the end, Canada as a whole becomes a part of the United States, ending all possibility of Russian influence in North America. Other former British countries fall into either camp.

Today, the world is a massive firecracker waiting to explode, while American and Russian leaders continue to try to make peace. But will there be peace? Ever?

The Unexpected Communists ~Imp

You would have thought a White Russia would have lead to a peaceful world. How we all were mistaken, how we all wish this had been so.

The Romanovs had managed to get away from Russia - in one piece, fleeing to Britain and leaving the fate of the nation in the hands of revolutionaries. The Reds did have an assult at the Romanovs planned, or so historical sources say, but their successful escape would mean the Reds could not kill them. Many believe this opportunity missed out never helped boost the red morale, and crucial white victories would lead to the establishment of a White Russia.

But Lenin would return to the country that freed him, and he would use the weak government as a scapegoat to launch a Communist government in the nation. He would succeed and create the Union of Sovereign Germanic Republics - establishing a new power. The nation would, under him, become something of a novelty and would grow in strength. A Communist revolution in Austria, then the Netherlands would firmly establish Communism in the region.

Exiled Royal Families would run to the United Kingdom, which would quickly take over former Dutch territories in the name of the Dutch Royal Family, and establish a greater control over all those states. The Americans would watch in horror as the world suddenly turned a lot more imperialistic. The Anglo-American Naval War of 1828-33 would damage relations for a long time to come, and lead to the loss of Canada as a British domonion.

The Americans would be forced to find new allies - the Russians. Helping them rebuild and providing them with key materials to mine and industrialise their economy, the Americans would begin the process of creating an alliance which would hold till the present day. However, isolationism could grow in both the powers as they worked on internal matters - especially Russia. Colonisation of the East in great numbers would be sponsored and the spreading of Russians all the way into Kazakhstan would take place. America too would sent millions north to set up new towns and establish new lives.

By the 1950s, the world had too many powers capable of destroying each other. And that is exactly what happened. The Second Great War would begin, killing tens of millions and accomplishing almost nothing. The British would ally with the Japanese and the French; the Germans would form their own bloc and America and Russia would stand on the sidelines until Alaska would be invaded.

Post-war would be difficult. India would be lost to a workers revolution - establishing the Socialist Federation of Bharat. Japan would be forced to stay in Manchuria, Korea and the home islands as its empire was lost and it was forced to sign a treaty stripping them off most of their military. It was either that or attack by two military powers. Britain would keep its empire in Africa and Australia as well as Indonesia, but would lose whatever possessions they had in the Americas. Germany would expand the influence of Red and create a large number of puppet states in Europe. Russia didn't take part much in the war. It joined toward the end as a matter of honour to help its ally but apart from that were petty much sitting out the war. It helped them, they were able to sell to both sides and become powerful once mobilisation and re-equiping of the army took place.

By now, too many wars have been fought. Proxy after proxy war has led to countless deaths. Various economies of the world are powerful, with the Aryan alliance between Germany and India giving a lot of scares, while Russia and America continue to be side by side. And then there is Britain. Never losing hope, it transformed itself into a conservative Imperial Federation. It industrialised all of Africa, while giving them Imperial British citizenship. The Federation sustains itself, and still make a threatening power. But they know well they got lucky. The Americans tested their first nuclear bomb 8 months after the war finished - the Russians a year after that. No one really know the future of the world.

I just hope we someday manage to sort out our differences ...

Dots and Dashes  -Callumthered

Dots and Dashes world map

World in the 2010s

On the morning of the 12th of March, 1917, the president of the Russian Duma, Mikhail Rodzianko, sent Tsar Nicholas II an urgent telegram: "The situation is growing worse. Measures should be taken immediately, as tomorrow will be too late. The last hour has struck, when the fate of the country and dynasty is being decided." In OTL, Nicholas never received that telegram, but if he had, what could have been the effect of those dots and dashes?

At midday on the 12th, Tsar Nicholas II made a public announcement, in which he abdicated in favour of his son Alexei. Exectutive power for the remainder of the war was to be in the hands of the Duma, led by President Rodzianko. He resigned from his post as Commander-In-Chief and disappeared, many believe he disguised himself as a common soldier and died on the Eastern front.

The newly-empowered Duma acted decisively to quell the Bolshevik-led insurgencies in Petrograd and in the countryside. Vladimir Lenin, who, assisted by the Germans, had returned to Russia to lead the insurgents, was shot by Imperial police. The Duma appointed General Brusilov as Commander-in-Chief on the 15th of March, and he traveled straight to the front to co-ordinate a reversal of Russian losses.

With the Russians remaining in the war, German submarine warfare was directed away from the Atlantic to the Baltic in an attempt to assist the remaining Bolsheviks, who had established a government in Finland. This resulted in the Lusitania not being sunk by German U-boats. Without the outrage of the sinking, the USA never entered the war, however, continued to supply the Allied forces.

After over a year of stalemate, the Allied powers began the famous "Great Offensive". Masterminded by Brusilov, the offensive was an immense, last-roll-of-the-dice attack by the Allies. The simultaneous Russian attack on the Eastern front and the Franco-British attack on the Western front was too much for the overstretched German army, which began a long, slow retreat. Realising that Imperial Germany was doomed, and fearing for his own throne, Bavarian King went into negotiatoions with the Allies for a separate peace, in return for independence after the war. Although the French were not particularly impressed, the Russians granted the request, seeing that Bavaria pulling out of the war would provoke civil strife in Germany, which Germany could not afford. In September 1918, Bavarian forces surrendered to the Allies, causing panic and confusion amongst the German forces. Another two months of desparate fighting culminating in revolution was enough to defeat the Germans. The provisional German government surrendered in mid-November.

In the post-war settlement, Russia gained Galicia from Austria-Hungary and Prussian Poland. The Bolsheviks in Finland were summarily defeated. Austria-Hungary was divided along ethnic lines into German Austria, the Kingdom of Hungary (with Kaiser Karl as king), Yugoslavia (headed by Serbia) and Czechoslovakia. The Ottoman Empire was divided between Greece, Russia, Britain and France.

After the war, the Duma passed a new constitution, solidifying its powers and limiting those of the Tsar. Alexis II (as he became known) died in 1923 due to his haemophilia, and was succeeded by his elder sister Olga. Germany and the former Austria-Hungary were hit especially hard by the Great Depression of the 1930s, leading to the rise of the ultra-nationalistic, militaristic Iron Guard in those countries. In 1937, Germany and Austria underwent Anschluss, and led by Chancellor Rommel, began demanding back the parts of Germany lost after WWI, and for an Anschluss with Bavaria. In 1940, Germany invaded Bavaria, starting the Second World War. Rommel's forces quickly took Bavaria, the Low countries and Northern France. Russia and Germany engaged in the devastating Battle for Poland for three years. In the Asia-Pacific, Japan was also making territorial advances, taking much of China and South East Asia. The bombing of the American fleet in Hawaii brought the US into the war against Japan. After four years of fighting, the Germans were crushed by the Allies, and the status quo was restored. The war in Asia, however, would drag on for another two years before a Russian nuclear bomb could be dropped on Nagasaki, which, followed by the Russian invasion of Hokkaido, ended the war. Saikhalin, Korea and Hokkaido were annexed by Russia, and Manchuria and Japan were made Russian puppets.

Russia's seemingly disproportionate gains turned American sentiment against their former allies. When Communist revolutions in liberated Eastern Europe threatened Russian dominance in the region, the US sponsored and armed the rebels. In China, the pro-Russian republicans defeated the Communists, who, supported by the American Navy, retreated to Taiwan and established a government there. In 1950, the USA detonated its first nuclear weapon, launching a nuclear arms race. That same year, the British lost control of India. After the ensuing civil war, the subcontinent was divided into the democratic and Hindu-majority Republic of India, the Muslim minority-controlled Kingdom of Hydrabad, and the Muslim-dominated People's Republic of Bengal. The success of the Communists in Bengal (the first of its kind in the world) resulted in a wave of Communist uprisings and revolutions in the colonies of South-East Asia, most of which were supported by the USA. This was not for ideological reasons, the USA supported the regimes purely because they were opposed to Russia, and because doing so increased American influence in the region. For the rest of the century, Russia and the USA engaged in nuclear arms race, proxy wars, trade embargoes and covert operations against one another. The British, having lost their Asian possessions, worked on securing an influence in Africa, establishing dominions out of former colonies and maintaining a high military prescence there. Britains strong focus on maintaining what remained of the Empire (in the form of the British Commonwealth) resulted in the bloody Falklands War against the American-backed military regime in Argentina. The resounding British (and Russian) victory allowed Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher to remain in power (many say undemocratically) for several decades. Russian Empress Olga died in 1979, and was succeeded by her son Alexander IV, who attempted to enter into negotiations with the Americans about nuclear disarmament and the loosening of trade embargoes.

In 1999, a wave of peaceful Russian-backed demonstrations in Communist Europe (ie the Balkans and Italy) led to the collapse of the American-backed regimes there. In the 21st Century, the US has well and truly pivoted towards the Pacific, propping up its faltering puppet Communist regimes in South East Asia and Central America. Russia is known to all as the world's leading superpower and for many, a symbol of freedom, peace and stability.

Japan's Desire Drive -Kogasa

Japan's Desire Drive (Map Contest)

World as of 2013.

In this timeline, the Kamakura Shogunate manages to defeat the Imperial forces in the Genkō War. With this, the Kamakura Shogunate stays in power, and begins to strengthen. Soon, Japan begins expanding into Hokkaido, Karafuto (Sakhalin), and parts of Siberia. Japan also discovers the New World in 1400, and begins colonising most of it. Japan also colonised Australia and New Zealand as well. Once Spain reached the New World they encountered the Japanese, and soon a trade agreement was signed. The Spanish go on to colonise Florida and Guyana while Portugal goes on to colonise Brazil.

The British and Netherlands also colonise parts of Vinland (North America), particularly the East Coast. The Dutch victories in the Anglo-Dutch Wars allows them to keep New Netherland. Meanwhile the French were able to hold onto Louisiana and Québec, and made them Dominions later on.

Soon sometime in the 1770s, the British East Coast rebel and form the United States. Later in 1793, New Netherland declares independence from the Netherlands. These two nations would have tensions with each other until 1815. In the 1820s, the Japanese colonies in North and South Vinland began to revolt and formed their own nations. One of them was Miyako in South Vinland, which was named after the Miyako Island.

By the 1900s, North and South Vinland became mostly peaceful. The United States pursued an isolationist policy, and remained neutral since the beginning of this policy. Meanwhile, Québec becomes the superpower of North Vinland and becomes involved in the international stage, alongside Brazil and Miyako. There was only one World War, which took place from 1914 to 1923.

Later, in the 1970s, the European Union was formed. The nations of Europe (except Scandinavia and Russia) then went on to merge into one large nation, in 2008.

The Superpowers in this World are Québec, Miyako, Brazil, China and Japan. The European Union and India are new potential Superpowers.

The main characters of the Touhou Project are Seiga Kaku and Satori Komeiji.

The British are coming ... (Local)

John Cabot mentions his discovery of a landmass to the English Government and they run with it. They colonize North America, down to about the Utah southern border, and along that line. This caused the English to be able to swiftly unite the kingdoms. When the Spanish found South America, a few decades later, they found it a lot more difficult to colonise. The British had traded with the tribes. They had taken gold in exchange for guns, metal and horses. They also exposed the tribes to diseases. When the Spanish landed, they were gunned down. The diseases they brought had no significant affect on the tribesmen, and they found themselves facing men with guns and horses. The Spanish, without American colonies to sustain them, fell from Grace. Meanwhile, the British, enjoying the feeling of power they got with colonies, began to colonise Asia and Africa. The colonisation by Britain caused the French to join in. The colonial arms race reached a climax in 1624. The French invaded a British colony in Africa, and Britain retaliated. As the war grew, taxes grew with it. The North American colonies, sick of the war and of the taxes, declared independence. The Anglo-French war ended shortly after this, and the British finally turned their attention to the rebels. Although the rebels won, the victory was hollow. The British retained most of the colonies, and the 'United States of America' consisted only of a small part of OTL Nevada, and some of Colorado. The British allowed them to live, and protected the little nation from other powers, purely because they did not want them to gain a foothold. They also knew that if they invaded the USA, the 'rebel elements' would disperse throughout the colony, and wreak havoc. This way was safer. The world remained at a status quo until 1900.

Work in Progress

The British go on to establish their colonies in America like OTL. However, when the Americans rebel, Britain is not willing to give up easily and allocates more troops to the effort. The German General who helped organise the American soldiers also arrives a year or two late and this allows for a more bloody and longer War of Independence. Union falls apart. British invade again. Union is remade and stays together this time. Becomes aggressive and powerful on its own continent. Basically.

French moved and no OTL Quebecois Independence Movement. Every town has a Frenchtown.

The Treaty of Madrid states that Canada will become independent but will keep a bit of British influence. After 1840 Canada falls in the United States place in history, Spanish-Canadian war, WWI, WWII, Superpower. 1946 Canadian flag proposal

In this timeline, France and her allies win the Seven Years' War. As a result of this, the British American lands are given independence under the leadership of Benjamin Franklin. Under his guidance, the United States of North America becomes a center of the Enlightenment. States have more rights, and et cetera. America goes Rambo on expansion, invading most European lands in the New World by 1800. When Napoleon comes about, America does not interfere until it sees an opportunity to expand its reach farther.

Basically Napoleon wins and blah blah blah I'm sitting out the next contest blah blah blah.

1812 Finale ~Callumthered

1812 Finale(Map Contest)

In a world where the USA lost the Second Anglo-American War, 1812, instead of being the overture to American dominance on the world stage, became its finale. (I hope you all get the reference).

During the War of 1812 OTL, the people of New England (many of whom were Loyalists or descended from Loyalists, and a large number of whom depended on trade with Britain) were angry and distressed at the war and resultant British blockade of trade. There was a genuine movement amongst New Englanders to declare independence from the Union which, through its continuing with the war, was slowly strangling New England's economy. The Point of Diversion for this timeline involves New England seceding from the United States in 1814. The new republic sought a speedy suspension of hostilities with Britain. With New England troops pulling out of the war, the American positions collapsed. British forces swept through New York and the United States was forced to sign the disastrous "Treaty of Washington". The treaty ceded all of New York and the Louisiana Purchase to Britain.

In the Congress of Vienna, Talleyrand was able to manipulate and negotiate his way to France receiving a territory centred on New Orleans (approx the OTL State of Louisiana).

A weaker central government resulted in the Carolinas and Georgia seceding from the union in the 1850s over the slave issue (slavery was only abolished in those states in the late 1880s).

The British settled the "Missippi Colony" extensively, and it was a founding member of the Confederation of North America, which was relabelled a "realm" in 1901. Today, the RNA is, along with Mexico, the biggest power in North America.

Without a strong USA trying to uphold the Monroe Doctrine, (and with a big base for troops right next door in Louisiana) Napoleon III was able to invest more troops into keeping the Second Mexican Empire afloat. His success (relative to OTL) in foreign policy meant that Napoleon III did not feel the need to gain popularty in a war with the North German Confederation. As a result, the southern German states (Bavaria, Wurrtemberg and Baden) remain independent monarchies to this day.

Without the USA to send Commodore Perry, the "task" of opening Japan up to foreigners fell to Britain. Britain pursued the same policy as it had with China, trying to get the Shoguns to sign extremely unfair treaties. When the Shoguns refused, the British backed the Imperial faction (assisted by the Satsuma domain and the Chosu domain) in the TTL Boshin War. France, seeing an opportunity to gain influence in the far East, backed the Shogun's forces. The Boshin war was much more of a proxy war between the two powers than OTL. In the end, Franco-Shogunate forces were pushed to Hokkaido, where a French-backed "Edo Republic" was formed. The Satcho Alliace (Satsuma and Chosu Domains), seeing the way the British were forcing unfair treaties on the new Imperial government, seceded with a bit of help from their old allies the Dutch.

Australia went pretty much like OTL. However, without a good example of federalism in the USA, Queensland and Western Australia did not join the Australasian federation in 1901. Interestingly, New Zealand and Fiji did.

In Africa, a more confident France was able to reach Fashoda first, and complete their Atlantic to Red Sea Empire in Africa. This peeved the British to such an extnt that Anglo-French relations could never be healed. In the leadup to the turn of the century, France, Austria, Russia, Bulgaria and the Southern German states formed one alliance, while Britain, the North German Confederation, Italy and the ailing ottoman Empire formed the other alliance.

The spark for World War came during the Balkan War of 1912, when Bulgaria marched on Constantinople. The British, unwilling to see their ally lose control over the Dardanelles, declared war on Bulgaria, which set off the chain of alliances. There were Western, Eastern, Dardanelles and African fronts like the OTL First World War, but added to that, there was a North American front where the French-backed Mexican Empire clashed with the North American Realm. The war ended in 1916 when the North German Confederation underwent a revolution, which sent the King of Prussia packing for German East Africa (which became the Kingdom of Tanganyika). Austria-Hungary soon disintegrated, and it was only through a Franco-Bavarian intervention that a rump Austrian Empire was saved. Gallicia, Hungary and Czechoslovakia became Communist, and they were joined by Russia when the post-war depression proved too much for the autocratic regime. The Tsars fled to Alaska (which was still Russian - there was no USA to sell it to) where they lay in wait.

The remaining monarchies/democracies reluctantly put aside their differences and entered a cold war with the Communists. The Chinese Civil war resulted in a Soviet-backed PRC being formed (which, without American backing of the KMT, included Taiwan). Without a strong Japan, the Pacific War never took place.

Communism in Europe fell in the 1990s, but remained in Galicia. The Tsars returned from Alaska and re-established the monarchy on mainland Russia. The French and British Commonwealths are generally regarded to be the major world powers, followed by a rising China and Russia.

That's pretty much all.

Thunderclouds of New World Power (Map Contest)

World as of 2013.

In this timeline, the Aztec and Incan Empires start much earlier, soon becoming great powers in their own continents. The Koori Empire also forms in Australia, and begins taking New Zealand. A few other natives, such as Nunavut and the Haudenosaunee, form their own nations, too. By the time the Norse reach Vinland, they are quickly taken out by the Nunavut. From there the Nunavut expands into Greenland, Iceland and Scandinavia. Soon, news of a new land reaches the other native states, and they go on colonising Europe and Africa. Soon, some of them reach Asia as well, and begin establishing small ports. Japan, not wanting to meet the fate as Europe, begins to establish their own Empire and begins expanding, along with aiding the Chinese and Siamese. By the time the natives reach East Asia, they are met with powerful Empires, and war between them soon happened in the 1500s. This resulted in a victory for the Asian powers, and a peace treaty was signed.

Decolonisation happened in the 1900s, with some new nations forming. However, a few empires, such as Nunavut, keep a bit of lands in the Old World.

By modern day, the Aztec, Inca, Nunavut, China, and Japan are the superpowers of the World. Major religions include the Native American religions, Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism, and Shinto.

Babakiueria ~Callumthered

Babakiueria (Map Contest)

This particular challenge is inherently ASB, so I will admit beforehand that my entry is no different.

The name, "Babakiueria", is stolen from a satirical Australian short film from the '80s, in which Aborigines take over and colonise typical "White Australia". The name comes from the opening scene, where a uniformed Aborigine (part of the landing party) asks a native white person what they call the place. The man responds "well, it's the barbecue area".

The first Australian POD is somewhere during the last Ice Age. Somehow (probably the intervention of winged mammals from space), when the Ice melts, Australia does not get quite as dry as in OTL. Lake Eyre is full all year-round, and the desert areas are much smaller. The second POD is that diprotodons (giant wombats) survive the extinceion of Australia's megafauna. And the third POD is that when Aborigines arrive, they - by accident or on purpose - bring early ancestors of rice. These three factors result in Aboriginal Australian society developing in a completely different way. With a large, domesticatable animal (the diprotodon), easily domesticatable crops (the rice-like thing) and more predictably wet weather patterns, Aborigines are able to develop agriculture at roughly the same time that people in the Fertile Crescent do. Agriculture results in more settled society, which results in the creation of fixed settlements, which grow into villages, and then towns and then cities. The need to keep track of food production drives the creation of writing systems. The connection between owning land and having food results in land ownership being part of Aboriginal life, and the creation of nations. By the birth of Christ, Australia has become a collection of small and medium sized countries, with feudal-style beurocracies. Iron is mined in the West, and Gold in the South, resulting in a quite modern society, basically on par with that of Europe. In the 1300s, the Kulin nation of the area around otl Melbourne begins vassalising and taking over nearby countries. By 1500, virtually all the nations of Australia have joined Kulin, either by choice or force, an the leader of the Kulin nation is declared Emperor over the continent. Expeditions are sent out to take the Northern islands, most of which succomb (although the highlands of New Guinea remain unpenetrable). Kulin explorers become more ambitious, visiting and setting up trading posts in Sri Lanka and Southern Africa and even the Eastern coast of America. Over time, these trading posts grow into colonies.

In the Americas, the Mayans and Incas developed metal tools and were generally more powerful than otl. When the Europeans arrived, they recognised both nations as great societies (although they still tried to introduce Christianity, to varying degrees of success). European colonies are restricted to small parts of the Eastern coast, and parts of otl Canada. Less colonial rivalry meant that Britain and France were not such intense rivals as otl. A lack of overseas empire made Spain pretty pathetic.

Africa is dominated by the Orthodox Christian Ethiopian Empire in the middle, and the Islamic Caliphate in the North. There are also some independent nations on the East coast.

So that's the best I could come up with.

Japan, Past and Present ~ Flower Land -Kogasa

Japan, Past and Present ~ Flower Land (Map Contest)

World as of 2013.

The PoD is that the Japanese does not attack Hawaii at all. With this, the US doesn't enter the war at all, maintaining its isolation. Japan manages to defeat China, and captures Papua Island. The Soviets tried their luck to invade Japan, but ended up getting partially defeated, and Japan went on to take portions of Manchuria. When Japan tried to go farther, they began seeing some defeats. A few days later, Japan decided to end the war and established a peace treaty, ending the war in the Pacific.

Meanwhile in Europe, the Soviets began pushing back the Germans heavily, and the Allies were successful in defeating the Axis in North Africa. Soon, in 1944, Italy was invaded by the Allies. Soon, the Italian Social Republic was set up by the Germans, though it wouldn't last long. A year later, the Allies had managed to commence D-Day, and began to free France. In the Eastern Front, the Soviets had liberated the Balkans, and also was closing in on Berlin.

In Early 1946, the Allies managed to free France and defeated the Italian State while the Soviets managed to take Berlin and portions of Eastern Germany. The War in Europe finally ended with the surrender of the Axis. Soon, Europe became divided into two sides, the Allies and Soviets. Germany and Austria was divided East and West (East Germany also includes Bayern/Bavaria TTL).

The British Empire, Soviet Union, and Japan were the new superpowers, and soon, the Cold War took place. Japan and the UK had established a pact against the Soviets, and also would work together. They faced a few proxy wars here and there, though by the 1970s, the Soviets was declining in power.

By 1985, the Warsaw Pact started to fall apart, with many revolutions taking place. In 1987, Germany was reunited into one, as was Austria. In 1989, the Soviet Union went and made reforms, and managed to stay almost intact. Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Ukraine would declare independence, however, and Moldova merges into Romania. The British Empire also reformed into the Imperial Federation.

The United Kingdom/Imperial Federation and Japan remain superpowers, as does Russia.

The main character of the Touhou Project is Yuuka Kazami and Mononobe no Futo.

Silence Will Fall - Scraw

Silence Will Fall

Silence Will Fall Labelled

"Silence Will Fall", they said.

The major POD here is that the Germans quietly send aid to anti-British groups in Ireland and South Africa. This causes another POD in 1939 when the UK declares war on Germany. Ireland elects to stay neutral, as in OTL, but South Africa diverges from this, as the Union Parliament has quite a few German sympathizers ATL. This causes Canada to also remain neutral, as the Prime Minister wanted OTL.

With the lack of reinforcements coming from South Africa and Canada, the Italians make great advances in Africa and enter a more bloody stalemate with the British inside Egypt's borders. After the Fall of France, the Germans promote a great Irish revolution against the British to prepare for the invasion of Britain.

Meanwhile in North America, Canada's Parliament has a massive rift between pro-war and anti-war members. Cries for war become even greater, and Quebecois also seek to take this opportunity to go for their independence. After the United States enters the war against Japan, the Canadians lose their minds and a war breaks out. The United States then executes War Plan Red. The Canadian Atlantic and Pacific coasts are quickly captured and the drive into Ontario via New York and Michigan leads to the swift occupation of Ottawa. The British are absolutely helpless against this and begin to concentrate everything on defending the main island and the Pacific.

However, panic strikes the heart of Britain just as it did Canada when the Japanese capture Vladivostok, Singapore and the Dutch East Indies. This enables them to launch a great campaign against Australia and New Zealand. They are then forced to begin recalling volunteers from the front in Africa. This leads to the capture of the Suez Canal by the Axis, cutting off Britain from Australia and other places. People then get tired of what they view as an ineffective government and Oswald Mosley quickly takes his place as Prime Minister. He sues for peace with the enemy and ends the Battle of Britain. However, the government slowly becomes increasingly Fascist, leading to the separation of England and Scotland. The Royal Family flees to Australia, where the new major front is.

With the fall of London, the Raj declares independence and peacefully separates into four nations (Pakistan, India, Bengal, Myanmar). Other places, like the Protectorates of Aden and British Somaliland declare independence. The United States is failing miserably in the Pacific and decides to focus on Europe by 1940. However, Mexico decides that since the Axis are doing so well, they might as well join them, and join they do. This leads America to have to fight a war near home, but Canadian reserves are called up to lead the defense. The Mexicans are held at the border and Baja California falls to the Americans.

In 1940, the United States launches an invasion of Ireland via Iceland and pro-Allied Scotland. The Nazi puppet regime is quickly ousted and an Allied government is placed in its stead. Ireland is then used as a launch pad into France, and D-Day becomes a great success. Also, the Soviets invade Iran with the prospect of oil and the threat of Britain gone. This is successful, and the Soviet enter Transcaucasia via Iran and enter Stalingrad, forcing the Germans to retreat to Ukraine. Also, the Soviets emerge the victors of the Winter War and also push the Germans back from Moscow.

With France liberated once more, the Germans are fighting a two-front war again. The Americans and the French attack Italy and its African possessions, while retaking the Suez Canal with the aid of India. This distracts Germany, making way for the Soviets to force the Germans back to the pre-war borders. In the Pacific, the Americans recapture small islands like Midway, Guam, and Wake. From Guam, the United States moves north to Iwo Jima and south to the East Indies, to aid the Australians.

By early 1946, the Allies are occupying Italy and the drive to Berlin is underway. India, the UKANZ, and the United States have freed the Pacific for the most part. The Soviet has invaded China from the west and occupied Uyghuristan, Manchuria and Korea. The war into Japan is also underway, but stalled.

In June, the Soviets capture Berlin. Adolf Hitler and his inner circle are caught and taken prisoner by the Allies. However, Japan is still maintaining a perfect defense, so nuclear weapons are deployed over Fukushima and Yamagata. The Japanese surrender and World War II ends 6 November 1946.

After World War II, several territorial changes are made. Mexico is forced to cede northern territories to the United States. Italian Somaliland is given independence and Ethiopia annexes former British Somaliland. The UKANZ is officially recognized and England, Scotland and Ireland become acknowledged separate countries.

The Permanent Security Council of the UN consists of the US, USSR, UKANZ, France, and ?. Cuba and the Philippines slowly become US states due to the increased threat of war. Japan is divided North (Soviet) and South (American). The dragged-out Spanish Civil War leads to the creation of five different states.

The Cold War proceeds mostly along its OTL course. Europe is much more tense ATL, and the Soviets have puppets across the world. Vietnam ends up as two different states with little foreign intervention. Both sides take a greater interest in the Middle East, South America and Africa. One notable thing that happens is the United States promoting an independent Persian state, which leads the Soviets to create a puppet states out of it. This leads to other ethnic minorities wanting more autonomy, leading to a situation much like that of New Union.

The Space Race is also more heightened ATL. Both sides have Moon bases by present day, and Mars has been reached more than once by both. The threat of war is very much still alive across the world, but leaders swear that "silence will fall".

World as of 2013.

In this timeline, the Byzantine Empire grew in power and managed to win the Byzantine–Sasanian War of 602–628. Soon, in year 1360, a Byzantine fleet manages to land somewhere in OTL Cuba, and sets up a small colony. However, by the 1400s, the Byzantines were beginning to decline in power, and in 1498, Constantinople was taken by the Ottomans. Soon the Byzantine colony declared independence and declared to be the New Rome. They then went on an expansion and defeated the Aztec and Mayan Empires. However, their expansion was soon cut short once they ran into a huge Chinese colony in Amazonia (Zheng He had discovered the New World in 1395). Conflicts arose and a small war took place, which ended in a victory for China.

In the East, the Ming Dynasty evolved into a more powerful empire and had their own colonial empire. They also expanded their influence throughout East, South East, and South Asia. As a result, the Europeans were unsuccessful in establishing colonies in those areas, except India to an extent. China also became the first nation to industrialise in the mid 1700s. China, along with Japan, becomes more advanced in technology than the rest of the world, while New Rome is the third most advanced.

With the fall of the Rome Empire, the world would be missing a key power and missing leader to progress the world. Antilla the Hun though he would hate the Rome Empire, he would come to recreate it in the form of his primitive Hun Empire. Antilla would take the ideas from the Roman Empire and would continue from OTL Hungary into OTL Turkey, Poland and East Germany. Along with the Hun's rise, came two powers to rise in the Africa the Carthigian Empire and the Christian Kingdom of Axum, many of the old Roman scholars and leaders would flee into Carthage to fuse the old Carthage ideas and Roman ideas. Axum would rise with Christianity as its centerfold to help preserve the faith after Rome's fall.

The three superpowers of the world consist of the Hun Empire, with its lead in technology, the Carthigian Empire leading in Naval superiority, and the Tsardom of Russia leadin full force with its Land military. Along with future world powers such as Axum, China, India, and the Aztec.

Lullaby of a Deserted World -Kogasa

World by the end of 2013. Warlords are lawless regions and also includes some tiny nations.

In this timeline, the PoD is that Zheng He manages to discover the New World for China in 1400. Following this, China went on to create colonies in the New World, and became expansionist. Later in the 1490s, the Spanish landed on the Caribbean and ran into Chinese settlers. Soon, a small skirmish took place, which led to the victory for China. Spain then began colonising elsewhere, starting in Florida.

By the 1600s, Vinland and Amazonia became mostly colonised by China, followed by Spain, Portugal and the Dutch. Tensions between China and Spain was ever rising and both remained hostile to one another. The Spaniards also had managed to take over the Philippines, giving them a foothold in Asia.

Over the years, the technology had quickly advanced, and two major alliances formed in the late 1870s. One was the Western Pact, which consisted of Spain, Italy, France, Russia, the UK (along with their colonies), and a few other European nations. The other was the Pan-Asia Bloc, which consisted of China (and her colonies), Korea, Thailand, Maratha Empire and Mysore. A Cold War had emerged and in the 1900s, the first nukes were developed in China. In 1925, the Philippines Missile Crisis took place, which soon quickly escalated into a nuclear war by the fifth month, devastating most of the world.

In the aftermath, only a few nations remained mostly intact, most of which were neutral. The main notable neutral nations are Norway-Sweden, Switzerland and Japan, which were not hit. Meanwhile, survivor nations soon appeared throughout the ruined countries. The largest survivor nation that formed was the Reformed Republic of China, which controls portions of Northern China, Mongolia, and a decent portion of Siberia. Other notable survivor nations include Extremadura, Jeju, Florida, New Netherlands, Indiana, Scotland, Khon Kaen, North India, and more.

By the modern day, the former nations still continue to rebuild themselves. A decent amount of places still continue to remain uninhabited, while some others have been reclaimed by nations. The Reformed Republic of China has re-emerged as a major power and is slowly gaining back all of former China, but faces opposition of the other Chinese nations in the area. Spain remains divided, as Extremadura, Andalusia, Catalonia, and Basque Country had formed an alliance and opposes a full reunification of Spain. Africa and Amazonia are prospering and wield a large influence on a world scale. The Ottomans have also rose as a major power. Japan is doing quite well and has emerged as one of the world's largest economies ...

The main characters of the Touhou Project are Rin Kaenbyou and Yamame Kurodani.

That's great, it starts with an earthquake (in Europe in 1936, damaging large areas of Switzerland, Southern Germany, Western France, Eastern Poland and Austria, and Northern Italy).

Birds and snakes, an aeroplane (crashes in New Jersey, starting a chain of aeroplane crashes along the Eastern Seaboard), Lenny Bruce is not afraid (until he and his family get killed by an airplane crash in California).

Eye of a hurricane (settles over Miami and devastates much of Florida), listen to yourself churn.

World serves its own needs (as nations become more and more self dependent with worsening natural disasters), don't mis-serve your own needs (became a popular British propaganda saying during a mass starvation period in late 1939).

Feed it up a knock, speed, grunt, no strength (represented the situation of people during these times).

The ladder starts to clatter with a fear of height, down, height (as skyscrapers begin to become more instable and dangerous due to earthquakes).

Wire in a fire (as electric wires fall down everywhere due to the earthquakes starting fires in big cities), represent the seven games.

And a government for hire (that becomes more and more controlled by rich people due to the frequent disasters) and a combat site (is what the Congress becomes).

Then I gave up. (Right? Right.)

What Once Was -Feud

(Map to come)

In the late 70's and early 80's the Soviet and US biological warfare programs were reaching their height. But on January 14th 1981 the US finished the development of a new viral weapon. However, while in transit to a facility on the East Coast, the transport vehicle was involved in a serious accident en route from the military airport to the facility in Washington. This, however, ended up with the initial spread of the disease which eventually became known as the Red Streak.

The Government, regardless of its large scale attempts at containment, was unsuccessful and the disease spread exponentially. With many government officials only classifying things such as influenza typed issues the EEV-32 disease was kept a secret. The virus, designed to remain dormant for two weeks to maximize spread, reached most corners of the planet. By April 1981 the virus has done its damage killing hundreds of millions and the ensuing nuclear holocaust initiated by many world governments reducing the human population from nearly 4.5 billion to less than 100 million world wide. No area was spared.

By the year 2014 the World had recovered minorly with some areas having progressed to the point of moderate civilizations and innovation again. However, the world would never be the same.

That Crazy Tetraethyl lead - LightningLynx89

That Crazy Diesel

Thomas Midgley Jr's greatest creations would end up almost costing mankind losing their green Earth to the deep blue. With the mass production of Tetraethyl lead across the world, many nations and companies begin buying Midley's gasoline and using it to advance their nations (creating a Diesel Punkish world). With the knowledge and ability to make Midgley's Tetraethyl lead becoming more and more common, companies and many other nations begin crossing the world and grabbing land to create their own without having to go through an American company. The Great Depression had still hit in 1930s, but gasoline companies had begun to excel and prosper, WW2 had still occurred, but the war was much more aggressive.

Scientist had figured out before the outbreak of World War 2 that vehicles that had ran on Tetraethyl lead (which most did at this time) had been pumping lead out into the atmosphere and deteriorating the ozone layers melting the polar ice caps. Though scientists had discovered its effects on humans as that with such high amounts newborns after the 1930s had been born with large amounts of lead that led to symptons of newborns being much more aggressive, even affecting those not born after the 1930s were being affected by not by that much.

With the outbreak of World War 2, mass amounts of Tetraethyl lead had been pumped out accelerating the melting of the polar ice caps leading to rapid sea level increases. Though World War 2 ended with the same result, the worse came when the dubbed 'Age of the Flood' came and from the 1950s-1970s had greatly reshaped the world through expanding oceans and shrinking land masses. Much of Europe, South America and the Southeastern United States had been submerged by the ocean, and with the advent of the sea level rising had brought back old nations (Ottomans and the Austrian-Hungarian Empire) and had split some (such as the USSR and China), and forcing some to exile their governments to colonial holdings (Belgium and Netherlands).

I Know Nothing of the Little Ice Age! - Imp

Viking Map (Map Contest)

In the map, them in their full glory in 1879.

The Viking colonies were flourishing in the north. Finally the Vikings could have the space to expand upon they so badly desired. And then ... a bad storm hit. It was unsure what was going to happen next as the future of the colonies, and the whole empire, hung in the balance. And then? The Sun came out, and the Empire of the Vikings never looked back.

Under whom would the empire flourish? Cnut (Ka-nuut) the Great, of course. He would lead the longboats to all around the North Sea, and would become responsible for the large influx of Norse into the Northumbrian and the Lowlands regions. Under him, the Vikings would begin to flourish like no other state in history had after the Roman Empire, but while Rome moved on land, the Vikings were lords of the seas. He would become the first Viking King to set foot on "Vinland" and the first major city on the new landmass would be named after him, while earning the reputation on whom luck always smiled. He was able to gain influence with the Pope and the Byzantine Emperor and became to be seen as a devout Christian - helping his cause on the British Isles where he managed to expand the hold of the Vikings to its greatest point. Because of him, the Bastard of Normandy never managed to establish complete control over England and so was restricted to the south. Various wars would be fought over the centuries with the Vikings, however. Yet, in his long life, he would not let the old Norse gods die out, instead incorporating them into Christianity, making them into God's angels and creating a new church - the Norse Church. But history would remember this leader as Cnut the Immortal, for his contributions. One of his soldiers would comment on his deathbed - "if Jesus was the son of god, he was the saviour of his people", marking him as a major figure in the Norse Church.

His successors would be competent and would lead to the continuation of an (albeit Christian) Viking Empire. When the Crusades came, the Christians thank their stars the Vikings were on their side. They would become the greatest trading empire in history, and in their glory have a world under their control. Well apart from the Chinese - and perhaps the Inca. Others did follow the Vikings westward, but not many managed to establish colonies. However, in this age of the Vikings, there would be something that would support their transformation into a major power early on. You see, a Christian monk was peacefully approached by the Vikings in a bid to find out if the rumour that he held ancient knowledge was true or not, and eventually yielded that he did possess (Roman) knowledge which they traded it with the Vikings for security and brought about a boom in technology and science before the age of rebirth (look at Vsauce to see what actually happened - mistakes video). I know, it's a pretty cool world. XD

Seafarers of Midgard - Bfoxius

What if the great Norse kingdom under the Danish king Cnut had not split apart with the rebellious English and Norwegians each rebelling? What, if in fact, instead of marrying two wives, Cnut married an Anglo-Saxon, and had a son, thus cementing his leadership over both England and Denmark? Let us also say that he was less harsh with the Norwegians, prompting them to not leave his great kingdom. The world today is very different.

With a great united realm, the Norse Kingdom, let's call it Nororifit, or "North Land" was able to levy enough troops to repel Duke William's invasion of England, forever exiling him to a backwater portion of old Gaul. Without the hybrid Norse-Latin culture of the Normans, Europe was divided between the Latin south, and the Norse north. Meanwhile, with the fertile fields of England to supply them, voyages resumed. The cities of Novgorod, and Kiev remained Norse, and with trade from across the world to supply them, the voyages continued. The Vikings, not the Normans conquered Sicily, and it became a vassal state of the vast northern realm.

Eventually the good weather in the northern seas ended, and great bergs of ice covered waters that were once clear. The inhabitants of Greenland and parts of Iceland looked home. Their home was becoming crowded with too many people. Then they looked west, rediscovered the old sagas of Erik the Red's son who settled in the vast woods of Vinland. Yes, there they would find a better life. So with the favor of the king, and the food and wealth that he controlled, they were granted the ability to go west and settle a new Jarldom in the name of the king. Settlements were established on the island of Vinland, and eventually new, better lands were found to the south, on the mainland. They had good harbors and fishing, thick forests, and less cold winters. The lands were named Nyrgard.

Soon, the vast forests of Nyrgard fueled the settlers' want to sail the vast seas on a more southerly route to the old kingdom, avoiding the ice of the north. Contact with Nororifit was re-established and the wealth of the new lands continued to fill the coffers of the king. Eventually, however, the good times began to end. Rebellious lords, on the fringes of the vast realm of the Norsemen, were building great armies to remain independent of the king. Over many years, however, that was not a problem, as the king could just hire mercenaries from across the world with the fabled Norse coffers. Trade, however, had slowed recently and the king had been forced to raise taxes. This was unpopular amongst the ever-rebellious Norse lords, and many revolted. Thus began the Great Nordic Insurrection. Battles were fought across the known world, but eventually a treaty was hammered out between the Kingdom and the rebels.

Brœðr Muno Beriaz ~ Ms

Mscoree's Contest Two3

The Atlantic Region in the year 1750.

Brœðr Muno Beriaz, Brothers Will Fight, is a universe where many Norse colonies in the New World managed to survive for years after their OTL collapse.

  • 865 - Danish raiders arrive on the English mainland intending to settle there. Led by brothers Halfdan and Ivar the Boneless, they winter in East Anglia, where they demand and receive tribute in exchange for a temporary peace.
  • From East Anglia the Danish raiders move north and attack Northumbria, already in the midst of a civil war between the deposed king Osberht and the usurper Ælla. The Danes use the civil turmoil as an opportunity to capture York, which they sack and burn.
  • 867 − Following the loss of York, Osberht and Ælla form an alliance against the Danes. They launch a counterattack, but in the ensuing battle the Danish raiders manage to slay both Osberht and Ælla and set up a puppet king on the Northumbrian throne.
  • In response to the successful Danish campaign in Northumbria, King Æthelred of Wessex, along with his brother Alfred, march against the Danes, who were positioned behind fortifications in Nottingham, but were unable to draw them into battle. In order to establish peace, King Burhred of Mercia cedes Nottingham to the Danes in exchange for leaving the rest of Mercia undisturbed.
  • 869 − Ivar the Boneless returns to the British Isles and demands tribute from King Edmund of East Anglia.
  • 870 − King Edmund refuses, and Ivar the Boneless defeats and captures Edmund at Hoxne, adding East Anglia to the area controlled by the invading Danes. King Æthelred and Alfred attacks the Danes at Reading, but are repulsed with heavy losses and followed south by the Danish.
  • 871 - The Danes and Wessex do battle on multiple occasions over the next few months.
    • January - Æthelred and Alfred meet the Danish invaders at Ashdown. Alfred leads the army into battle and defeats the Danish, killing five Danish jarls.
    • The Danes retreat and set up fortifications at Basing in Hampshire, fourteen miles from Reading. Æthelred attacks the Danish fortifications but is routed.
    • March - Following the Danish victory at Basing the invaders follow Æthelred to then achieve victory at Meretum.
    • April - King Æthelred dies and Alfred takes the throne of Wessex. For the rest of the year Alfred concentrates on attacking with small bands against isolated groups of Danes. He was moderately successful in this endeavour and was able to score minor victories against the Danes, but his army becomes on the verge of collapse.
  • Alfred pays off the Danes in order for a promise of peace. During the peace the Danes turned north and attacked Mercia, which they finished off in short order, and captured London in the process. King Burgred of Mercia fights in vain against Ivar the Boneless and his Danish invaders for the next three years.
  • Ivar dies during his campaign and is succeeded by Guthrum the Old. Guthrum quickly defeats Burgred and places a puppet on the throne of Mercia. The Danes now controlled East Anglia, Northumbria and Mercia, with only Wessex continuing to resist.
  • 875 − The Danes settle in Dorset, well inside of Alfred’s Kingdom of Wessex, but Alfred quickly makes peace with them.
  • 876 − The Danes break the peace with the capturing of the fortress of Wareham, followed by a similar capture of Exeter in 877.
  • 878 − In January Guthrum leads an attack against Wessex seeking to capture Alfred while he wintered in Chippenham. Another Danish army lands in south Wales and moved south with the intent of intercepting Alfred should he flee from Guthrum’s forces. However, they stop during their march to capture a small fortress at Countisbury Hill, held by a Wessex ealdorman named Odda. The Saxons, led by Odda, attack the Danes while they slept and defeat the superior Danish forces, saving Alfred from being trapped between the two armies. Alfred is forced to go into hiding for the rest of the winter and spring of 878 in the Somerset marshes in order to avoid the superior Danish forces.
  • In the spring Alfred is able to gather an army and attacked Guthrum and the Danes at Edington. The Danes are defeated and retreat to Chippenham, where the English pursue and lay siege to Guthrum’s forces. The Danes are unable to hold out without relief and soon surrender. Alfred demanded as a term of the surrender that Guthrum become baptised as a Christian, which Guthrum agrees to do, with Alfred acting as his godfather. Guthrum would remain true to his word and settle in East Anglia, at least for a while.
  • 884 − Guthrum attacks Kent, but was defeated by the English. This leads to the Treaty of Alfred and Guthrum, which established the boundaries of the Danelaw and allowed for Danish self-rule in the region.
  • 954 − King Eric is driven out of Northumbria, with his death marking the end of the prospect of a Northern Viking Kingdom stretching from York to Dublin and the Isles.
  • Eiríkr rauði, Erik the Red, and his wife Thjodhild (Þjóðhildr), move to Haukadal (Hawksdale) and construct a farm. After a group of thralls start a landslide on the neighboring farm belonging to Valthjof (Valþjófr). Valthjof's friend, Eyiolf the Foul (Eyjólfr saurr), kills the thralls. In return, Erik kills Eyjiolf and Holmgang-Hrafn (Hólmgöngu-Hrafn). Eyiolf's kinsmen demand his banishment from Haukadal.
  • 980's - Erik moves to the island of Öxney (Iceland), asking Thorgest (Þórgestr) to keep his setstokkr, which his father had brought from Norway, while he constructed his home.
  • 982 - Erik returns to Breidabolstad to take back Thorgest's setstokkr, to which Thorgest gave chase. In the ensuing fight over the item, Erik slays both Thorgest's sons and a few other men. The dispute was resolved at an assembly, the Thing, with the result that Erik was outlawed for three years.
  • Erik the Red sets sail for Gunnbjarnarsker ("Gunnbjörn's skerries") and a mysterious land to the west. He eventually reaches a part of the coast that appears ice=free and seems to have conditions similar to those of Iceland. Erik explores this land for three years, spending the first winter on the island of Eiriksey, the second winter in Eiriksholmar (close to Hvarfsgnipa), and in the final summer he explored as far north as Snaefell and into Hrafnsfjord.
  • 985 - After spending the winter in Iceland, Erik returns to Greenland with a large number of colonists and establishes the colonies of Eystribyggð and Vestribyggð. The colonies become successful and during the summers, when the weather favored travel more, each settlement would send an army of men to hunt in Disko Bay above the Arctic Circle for food and other valuable commodities such as seals, ivory from Walrus tusks, and beached whales.
  • 999 - Leif Eriksson leads a crew from Greenland to Norway. After being blown off course to the Hebrides and staying for much of the summer, he arrives in Norway and becomes a hirdman of King Olaf Tryggvason. After converting to Christianity himself, Leif is given the task of introducing the religion to Greenland.
  • 1000 - While traveling back to Greenland Leif Eriksson is blown off course and sights a land described by the merchant Bjarni Herjólfsson to the west of Greenland. He continues to Greenland.
  • 1003 - Leif Eriksson purchases his ship and leads an expedition of thirty five men west. Following Bjarni's route in reverse Leif landed first on a rocky and desolate place he named Helluland (Flat-Rock Land). After venturing farther by sea, he landed the second time in a forested place he named Markland (Forest Land). Finally, after two more days at sea, he landed in a place he named Vinland. There he and his crew built a small settlement, which was called Leifsbúðir (Leif's Booths) by later visitors from Greenland. After having wintered over in Vinland, Leif returned to Greenland in the spring with a cargo of grapes and timber. On the return voyage, he rescues an Icelandic castaway and his crew, earning him the nickname "Leif the Lucky".
  • Leif returns to the family estate of Brattahlíð on Greenland, and begins preaching Christianity to the Greenlanders. His father Erik reacted coldly to the suggestion that he should abandon his religion, while his mother Thjóðhildr quickly became a Christian and builds a church called Thjóðhild's Church.
  • 1004 - Leif Eriksson leads a large group of Greenlandic settlers to Vinland, establishing a permanent settlement. With harsh conditions driving many from Greenland, Vinland's population increases to 3000, with Eriksson as its chief.
  • Conflict erupts with the skrælingjar ("skraelings" or barbarians), hindering the Norse settlement in some areas. Finally relative peace is negotiated with the native Beothuk people in order to ensure Vinland's initial growth. During this time Straumfjörð is settled by Þorfinnr "Karlsefni" Þórðarson, and Furðustrandir, the Wonderstrands, is explored and lightly settled.
  • Following the death of Leif Eriksson the role of chieftaincy of Eiríksfjǫrðr and Vinland is passed on to Thorkell. Under his leadership Vinland continues to grow as many are attracted to its milder climate and easier farming opportunities.
  • 1066 − Harald Hardrada lands with an army, hoping to take control of York and the English crown. He is victorious at the decisive Battle of Stamford Bridge. The same year William II of Normandy, himself a descendant of Danish or Norwegian Vikings, lands an invasion on the British Isles.
  • 1069 − Sweyn II of Denmark lands with an army, in much the same way as Harald Hardrada. He takes control of York after defeating the Norman garrison and inciting a local uprising.
  • 1075 − One of Sweyn's sons, Knut, sets sail for England to support an English rebellion, scoring another decisive blow to the Normans in the south.
  • 1085 − Knut, now king, finally defeats William, becoming the sole king of Danish England, with York as its capital.
  • 1397 - Denmark enters into a personal union with Norway and Sweden under Margaret I.

Thorfinn Karlsefni Survives His First Meal - LightningLynx89

Viking World Map Contest

In our world Thorfinn Karlsefni and his party had been killed by a native raiding party after his bull had reportedly gotten loose and escaped the camp and frightened the local natives coming to trade with his crew. However, what if those natives had decided not to kill Karlsefni and his crew and had somehow captured Karlsefni's bull and returned it to him?

With Karlsefni seeing the honor of the natives willing to return his prized bull back to him, he began expanding more trade with the natives than he was given permission to, as he felt he needed to repay the debt. With this, the Viking populations had begun hearing more and more of this place called 'Vinland', a place of prosperity and virgin land untouched and ready to be settled and natives willing to trade goods that were alien to the Europeans. The Viking population over the next 200 years would settle the coast of the Hudson Bay and would set up permanent settlements. The native population had been exposed to European sicknesses, but at a leisurely pace which allowed generations to adapt and become affected by the Vikings carrying these diseases.

However, with the Catholic Church's influence increasing in Europe, the Vikings were forced into a war by the kingdoms of Norway and Sweden. The cost of war hurt the dispersed clans people as they were fighting a nation united under a king and a strong religion. The effects of the war forced the Vikings to leave their homeland of Scandinavia and forced them into Greenland and into Vinland to hopefully find a place to rebuild.

Cortez Gets Whacked

The Height of Colonialism (1900)

With the death of top expeditionary and chief conquistador Hernan Cortes the Spanish forces lose faith in conquering the dangerous 'New World'. As they see their leader killed in a simple night raid by Aztec warriors they feel as though the 'New World' is a lost cause. With the Spanish losing their interest they focus more closely on politics and incidents in Europe . With time still going the Hapsburg eventually become the dominant monarchy in Spain, Austria, Naples, and the Netherlands. The Hapsburgs eventually climb to power after the Spanish monarchies annex Portugal and exile their royal families to their colony of Brazil. The Austrian and Naples branches eventually make claims and grow to connect their borders into the Italian-Austro-Hungarian Empire. The Netherlands branch is still carrying on colonizing areas of South America and Indonesia, while the Spanish Hapsburgs claim Africa.

It Starts to Snow, in the Streets of Tenochtitlan -Seiga

World as of the First Month in 2014.

In this timeline, the Aztecs managed to defeat the Spanish. As a result, the Spanish ended up colonising all the Caribbean, parts of the OTL Southern Continental US, and a small portion of Central Vinland. However, the Spanish managed to successfully defeat the Incan Empire, and the Viceroyalty of Peru was established. The Aztecs went on to expand farther, and became a Great Power in Vinland.

Meanwhile in Japan, Takeda Shingen, leader of the Takeda Clan, managed to unite Japan and established the Takeda Shogunate. Japan then went on an expansion, going North all the way into Siberia, and established their first colony, called Shōtoku, around OTL Oregon. By the 1630s, the Japanese colony made contact with the Aztecs, and established a trade deal.

In the 1800s, the Spanish colonies had revolted from Spain, and new nations were established. The new nations are as follows: Texas, Gran Colombia, Peru-Bolivia, Chile, and Argentina. Later in the 1840s, Gran Colombia declared war on the Aztecs over a land dispute. However, the war ended with a small Aztec victory, and the Colombians ended up ceding parts of Guatemala and Belize. Another war between them happened again in 1878, with Colombia losing the rest of both provinces.

The Aztecs then went on the participate in the First World War on the Allied Side, and sided Peru-Bolivia against Colombia. It was the last war the Aztecs would get involved in, and went to pursue a policy of neutrality. Nevertheless, they remained a Great Power to this day. Meanwhile, the only uperpower in this World is Japan.

The Sealed Indian Plate -Kogasa

World as of the First Month in 2014.

In this timeline, the Indian plate does not shift into Asia, and instead becomes located between Southern Africa and Australia. When Buddhism and Hinduism were developed in India later on, the religions had spread to South Eastern Africa and Western Australia and took a few more decades to reach Asia. When they did arrive around Year 200, Taoism and Confucianism had begun to gain hold in Burma, Indochina and Thailand. The four religions soon met in Malaysia and a series of clashes occurred. After some years of fighting, it ended with a large stalemate, and Malaysia became divided between Chinese and Indian influence. In Japan, Taoism and Confucianism went on to interact with local beliefs, much like Buddhism did in OTL. China is also stronger, and the Tang Dynasty, after its establishment in 618, managed to last longer than OTL.

In 1400, Zheng He managed to discover the New World. Soon, China and Japan became the first to establish colonies, followed by Sri Vijaya. Soon, in the early 1500s, a Portuguese ship arrived on the Indian Continent after a storm pushed it off path. They attempted to take Goa, to no avail. Later the Spanish and Dutch arrived, and managed to establish at the very least some trade agreements.

By the mid 1600s, industrialisation took place in China and Japan and India followed twenty years later. Then in the early 1700s, Asian colonies in the New World begun to declare independence.

With high tensions between China and India, as well as their spheres of influence, a huge war broke out in 1850. The South East Asian Front saw heavy fighting, as did Northern Australia. This war ended in 1875 with a slight Chinese victory, and they managed to take West Malaysia and Singapore from India and its allies.

Tensions between the two blocs continued until 1920. After the fall of the Ming Dynasty and the establishment of the Republic of China, Chiang Kai-shek sought for peaceful and friendly relations with India. Starting in the 1930s, some new treaties and trade deals were established between both blocs.

By modern day, China, India, and Japan are the superpowers. Taoism, Confucianism, Buddhism, and Hinduism are the top four religions in the World, followed by Shinto and Zoroastrianism.

The main characters of the Touhou Project are Seiga Kaku and Reimu Hakurei. Undefined Fantastic Object, the twelfth official game of the Touhou series, is different from OTL, and is focused on Confucianism instead of Buddhism.

Solar Sect of Decisive Wisdom -Kogasa

Solar Sect of Decisive Wisdom (Map Contest)

World as of the First Month of 2014.

In this timeline, during the Great Northern War, Charles XII of Sweden decided to invade Russia a year later, in the summer of 1709. The Swedes were able to achieve a major victory, and went on to win the Battle of Poltava. Soon, when the Great Northern War ended in Sweden's favour, Russia did not become a new power, and was weakened. Russia also ended up ceding land to both Sweden and Poland-Lithuania as well.

When the Napoleonic Wars rolled around, Sweden and Poland-Lithuania joined in on the side of France. Russia, wanting revenge, went to declare war against Sweden and Poland-Lithuania. As a result, they ended up getting invaded again, and later suffered a heavy loss. After the war, Russia had ceded land to Persia, Poland-Lithuania, and Sweden. A peace treaty and non-aggression pacts were also signed.

Russia went on to become neutral in European affairs. In 1870, Japan went on to purchase the Alaska colony from Russia. Later, a non-aggression pact was also signed with China and Japan.

Soon in 1914, the Global War broke out which begun with Austria invading Serbia. Sweden, Poland-Lithuania, and the United Kingdom entered the war on the side Serbia while France and Spain sided with Austria. China and Japan joined a year later on the Allied side, aiming to free the French and Spanish colonies in Asia. The war lasted until 1920, with a loss for the Central Powers. As a result, Austria-Hungary lost land to Serbia and Poland-Lithuania, and had to pay reparations, while France and Spain lost most of their colonies. Then, by 1940, decolonisation occurred for the rest of the European nations.

By modern day, China, Japan and Sweden are the superpowers, while Poland-Lithuania is a Great Power. Russia has emerged economically and has became a minor power.

Napoleon Says F' Lord Winter - LightningLynx89

French Success

The World as of 1914

The story is very simple Napoleon decides to lead his Grand Army from France in late February to arrive in Russia during the winter. This event leads to Napoleon's victory and many of puppet nations (light purple) under his control and no one is able to truly match his might. However, with the passing on of his lineage the world is very close to war as the rising powers of the Eastern European nations, the UK, Sicily, and the Scandinavian nations are ready to reclaim those lands back and bring the French into submission.

The Sealed-Away Government ~ Exiled Place

World as of the First Month in 2014.

In this timeline, Napoleonic France managed to conquer a decent portion of Europe, and also establishing puppets in some nations, such as Spain and Portugal. France does not invade Russia, and instead turned their focus to invading Britain. The invasion was successful, and soon the British Family would exile to Canada. With this, France became a major power in Europe, with their only major rivals being Austria and Russia.

With the loss of the British Isles, the exiled British Monarchy begun to distance themselves away from Europe. Relations with the nation below them had remained tense. In the early 1830s, the US tried to take Oregon Country from the British. However, the Brits managed to put up a good fight, and had expelled the Americans out of the area. After the war, a treaty was signed and the British annexed the territory into the Dominion of Canada.

When the US tried to invade Mexico over Texas in the late 1840s, the British decided to enter the war on the Mexican side. This war then lasted for four years, with a British-Mexican victory. Mexico was able to take back Texas, and the US Military had begun to weaken further.

In 1870, Japan went on to purchase Alaska from Russia.

Starting in 1900, the British Empire begun to see an Era of decline. While they remained decently powerful in the Americas, their holdings outside of it were weakening. In 1920, India was among the first British holdings to declare independence. Later followed the African holdings, and in the 1950s, Australia and New Zealand were among the last to cede. Soon afterwards, the British Empire was succeeded by the Kingdom of Canada.

Other European nations that held colonies, such as France and Spain, lost their colonies starting in 1940. Only French Guiana remained as part of France.

By modern day, China, Japan and Canada are the superpowers of the World.

The main characters of the Touhou Project are Rin Kaenbyou and Byakuren Hijiri.

Note: Just splitting up the different states and provinces in North America does not count. These countries should be almost entirely unique.

Balkanisation at the End of a War -Kogasa

World as of the First Month in 2014.

In this timeline, the United States falls apart during the War of 1812 after a greater British victory. Upon dissolution, new nations established are as follows: Illinois (includes Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Upper Michigan), Indiana (includes Ohio and Lower Michigan), Greater New Netherlands (New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia), New England, Carolina, Kentucky (includes Tennessee), Mississippi (includes Louisiana State, Alabama, and Georgia), and Missouri (includes all of the Louisiana Purchase minus Minnesota and Louisiana).

Among the new nations, New England was the only one that fell back under British control and became annexed into Canada. The Greater New Netherlands fell under Dutch influence again, and saw an increase in Dutch immigrants. Mississippi began to develop a CSA-style government and became unstable. Missouri, Indiana and Illinois were among the most prosperous of the former states.

In the 1860s, the North American War broke out. On one side was Mississippi and Carolina, while on the other was Greater New Netherlands, the Netherlands and Mexico. Missouri soon got dragged in on New Netherlands' side after Mississippi launched an invasion of Missourian Arkansas. The war ended in Allied victory. Following this, slavery was then abolished in all participant nations, as well as Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky and New England. Louisiana was also annexed into Mexico.

In 1870, Japan went to purchase Alaska from Russia.

When the First World War broke out in 1914, Mississippi and Carolina joined in on the Central Powers, and began to invade Mexico and New Netherlands respectively. By 1917, the Mexican-Netherlands had achieved victory, and occupied both states for a few years.

In the 1920s, most of the nations out of the former US saw a Golden Age. Most prosperous were Missouri and Indiana, as they had successful booming economies and in the case of Indiana, the Motor Industry, such as Ford and Dodge, was on a roll. Mississippi and Carolina however, were becoming more unstable and saw no growth. Greater New Netherlands saw a new language emerge, called Nederglish, which is a combination of English and Dutch. Also more people in the nation speaks Dutch instead of English.

The Great Depression soon followed in the 1930s. Illinois saw a rise in crime, especially in Chicago. Mississippi collapsed into anarchy and saw a huge civil war taking place. Carolina saw a fascist leader taking power and heavy militarisation. Greater New Netherlands did all they could to create jobs for the unemployed. Indiana and Missouri were among those least effected.

Once the Second World War broke out, Carolina attempted to invade Greater New Netherlands once again. While they manage to achieve some victories early on, they soon suffered a major defeat, and ended up getting occupied again.

In the late 1960s, the civil war in Mississippi had fully ended, with the republicans taking control. Carolina also was freed from occupation, and a democratic government was set up. Indiana and Missouri became Great Powers by the 1970s.

In modern day, Mississippi and Carolina are poor and have a very low GDP on par to OTL Zimbabwe and Papua New Guinea, respectively. Illinois suffers under a military dictatorship and has a GDP similar to OTL Burma. Kentucky has a GDP similar to OTL Spain and has a good economy. Greater New Netherlands has an economy similar to the OTL Netherlands, its GDP is similar to OTL Belgium, and is decently wealthy. Missouri and Indiana has a GDP similar to OTL Switzerland and Hong Kong respectively. Confederate states

In 1862, Britain reconignized the Confederacy as an independent nation, and joined the war againest the USA, resulting in the independece of the CSA. A bitter rivalry insues between the US and CS over settlement in the unclaimed terrority in North America, which eventually leads to the Settlers' War in 1882, with Britain joining the fight againest the US, followed by France, with the CSA, Britain and France forming the Atlantic Alliance. It ends after the Battle of Detroit of 1883, resulting in a draw between the Atlantic Alliance and USA, as the Anglo-French force deployed to invade Michigan badly defeated, but the USA is halted in the drive on Richmond.

In 1896, Alaska is purchased by the US, but this almost provkes war with Britain, which is averted when the US is supported by Germany, and is able to gain an alliance with Japan. In 1897, The Confederacy fights the Spanish war, gaining Cuba as a state, and giving britain the Philipians, while France gets Guam. In 1901, however, war once again breaks out between the Confederacy and the Union over Mexico, when the CSA invades to gain land that will give them a larger border with the Union. In the War of 1901, the Atlantic Alliance defeats the Union in a mere 11 months, due to an s major blunder on the Union's part by attempting to invade Canada and not attackng the Confederacy as the main pirority. Two states of the Union are given to the CSA, Kentucky and Missouri. This serves as one of the main reasons for the Union joining the Triple Alliance with Austria-Hungary and Germany.

In 1915, Archduke Franz Ferdinad is killed by Serb nationalists, resulting the First World War between the Triple Alliance and Atlantic Alliance. Fighting is firece across the US-CS border, with over 20,000 men dying each month. By 1917, the fighting has grown to levels of unforseen bloodshed occur when the USA fails to break the line at Richmond, but the signs of the conflict ending have yet to show. Mexico explodes into civil war between the Socialist Rebels in the South and the Royalists in the North, with Baja Calforina declaring independece. The USA supports the South while the CSA supports the North, with the civil war becoming a battlefront of the First World War. Baja is able to aid the USA in getting troops to the South due to it's border with the Union, leading an invasion of Baja by the CSA, which becomes a stalemate. However, in 1919, the USA finelly is able to defeat the CSA, and takes Canada. Mexico is divided into three nations, the Socialist Republic of Mexico, Kingdom of Mexico, and Republic of Baja Mexico.

The Treaty of Hamburg is written up, with the Philipines, Guam, and Jamacic being given to the USA, along with Kentucky and Missouri being returned. Germany gains Poland and the Baltic States, and Austria-Hungary gets the Balkans and Romania. The Ottomans collapse, however, resulting in the formation of Georgia, Armenia, Azabijan, and Isreal, with Syria also becoming independent. However, there are some tensions with Turkey, which longs to regain these areas.

Map Contest 20 (Open): The Wall

Challenge: Walls have been used to divide and defend for thousands of years, from the Great Wall of China, to Hadrian's Wall, to the Berlin Wall. Create a timeline that includes a wall, and a backstory for it's purposes.

Wall Around the Willows -Seiga

World as of the First Month of 2014.

In this timeline, the PoD is that Zheng He manages to discover the New World for China in 1390. China then went on to establish colonies in the discovered lands, followed by Japan twenty years later. By the late 1520s, the Chinese colony of Yuanxian (located in OTL Northern Chile and Argentina) was facing constant raids from the native tribes to the south. Soon, the Great Wall of Yuanxian was built in 1525 to protect the colony from the warlike tribes. Eventually, by the 1800s, the Great Wall had shattered in some parts, and with the few skirmishes still not having ended, China launched an invasion against the rest of the Southern Cone, and annexed it.

Later on in 1914 the Great European War starts off with the assassination of the Archduke of Austria-Hungary. By the end of the war, Austria-Hungary (which stayed intact by the end of the war, unlike OTL) suffered harsh terms instead of Germany. As a result, most of its lands were divided and was limited to OTL Austria and Hungary. Then the Second Great European War followed, and at the end of that war, Austria was split between the Allies and the Comintern. Hungary became independent under full Comintern control, and Austria itself was split. Vienna was split between North (Comintern) and South (Allied), and the whole city was surrounded by East Austria (Comintern). In 1958, the Vienna Wall was built around South Vienna, with the reasons the same as the Berlin Wall in OTL.

In 1990, the Vienna Wall was torn down, and Austria was reunited. The Soviet Union fell apart in 1992, though Belarus and Kazakhstan had referendums to remain with Russia, while the rest of the Soviet Republics went on to declare independence.

By modern day, China and Japan are the superpowers of the World.

The House of Habsburg

I seem to be having trouble coming up with a rough timeline for the second contest (Habsburgian history is fairly complicated, and my original idea of a Habsburg personal union with France didn't turn out so well). Are we allowed to have a shared entry, where two participants work together on a map and a timeline? If not, I think I'll sit this one out :P. ChrisL123 (talk) 00:15, July 22, 2013 (UTC)

A shared entry would be fine, so long as both participants are credited. CourageousLife (talk) 15:21, July 31, 2013 (UTC)

I think a Hapsburg union with France is semi-feasible. The Bourbons traced back somewhere to the Hapsburgs. Or you could just have a Hapsburg Germany (with Austria) or Hapsburg Spain - or both.

I have two major candidates I would give my vote to ... :L 1 Imp (Say Hi?!) 11:21, August 9, 2013 (UTC)

Thank you, Chris! CourageousLife (talk) 19:12, August 9, 2013 (UTC)

Could I perhaps add my timeline and map? I couldn't do it earlier because my brother was doing his thesis and I lost the map, so I had to start over. Sine dei gloriem (talk) 03:52, August 31, 2013 (UTC)

Our Southern Neighbor

Is it okay if the global power nation in the Southern Hemisphere could have a few lands from the Northern Hemisphere, as long as it's still based out of the Southern Hemisphere? -Kogasa Miko THPW2 Flag of Europe 2013 August 18, 18:33 (CET)

The Crossover

Terra Nova

Does the map have to be completely different or is it okay if it's mostly the same map but with some changes (ie South America is closer to Africa, or Indian Sub-Continent doesn't merge into Asia)? I'm not good with creating geographically different maps ... -Kogasa Miko THPW2 Flag of Europe 2014 March 05, 07:08 (CET)

You don't fully need to make one, you can do what you said, or search for a geographically different map and use it. Sine dei gloriem "Ex Initio Terrae" (talk).

Cryo-Sleep

This page has been declining in interest and contribution, with only two or three users posting regularly. What I've decided to do is to put the page into cryosleep, effectively freezing it. To unlock the page and continue the contests, I'll require seven signatures below. Until the seven signatures are input, this game will remain a stagnant code of 1's and 0's, floating on a satellite in space, to act as a tribute to what was once a great and flourishing society ...

Congratulations, you have successfully reversed the effects of the cryosleep. As a reward for this triumph, one of you will pick the scenario for the next contest. Put suggestions below, and one will be chosen for this week.

How about one where an old empire (Srivijaya, Tang Dynasty, etc.) managed to survive? -Kogasa Miko THPW2 Flag of Europe 2013 September 18, 22:13 (CET)

I think that's a good idea. Perhaps any now defunct nation is applicable. Mscoree (talk) 20:15, September 18, 2013 (UTC)

It has to be. The fallen stars, please. A universe where the Union didn't survive infancy. Don't like it? Fine, have the Whites win the Russian Civil War. Let's have a map with a fairly modern PoD. :D 1 Imp (Say Hi?!) 20:23, September 18, 2013 (UTC)

Perhaps civilization started in the Americas (dominant civilization) rather than in Eurasia. An Incan or Mesoamerican-dominated world. Sine dei gloriem (talk) 01:37, September 21, 2013 (UTC)
