Magallanes is a direct dependency under the United Republics through Chile. As a direct dependency its land and resources are owned by the United Republics. However, as research stations became cities and expansion continued. The Antarctic Cities were formed to give them more of a voice in the Legislative Branches; however, no Antarctic Cities are in the very rigorous land of Magallanes. Magallanes is the second of three Antarctic dependencies of the United Republics. Magallanes is considered the toughest and most rugged regions of Antarctica and thus research there is difficult. Currently Magallanes is used as a Noah'a Arc for the United Republics where various South American seeds are stored for future use. Some solar panel technology is done here, but mainly testing of ship components and thermal and wind protection/insulation is researched here. URSA is the primary supplier and benefactor of this research.
