This Page Lists the Various Heads of State of the Austria and the related Nations have Had since the Beginning of Principia Moderni IV in 1400. Before this, Austria was Ruled by a line of Habsburg Dukes since 1246, Dukes from the House of Babenberg since 1156 and Babenberg Margraves since its founding. In 1359, Rudolph "the Founder" von Habsburg discovered Ancient Documents, dating from as far back as Julius Caesar Himself, that bestow upon the lands of Austria the status of Archduchy, and its ruler Archduke. Albert IV began actively using the title and proclaiming the accuracy of the Documents in 1400. These Documents, the Privilegium Maius, were recognized by the Supreme Pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church in 1404 during the aftermath of the Hessen Crusade.
