The colony's name, Libertadores, which is roughly equivalent to "Founding Fathers". The colony's name was decided after the Latin Alliance's 2005 election, when it was chosen as a name that was "not too biased to any of the local nations". This is because all of the Latin Alliance's members had important military leaders that served as founding fathers in the nation. Earlier proposals included New Antioquia, Santanderia, New Perú, and Hidalgo, several of which were used as names for proposed settlements in the area.
Libertadores is divided into 13 provinces (Provincias in Spanish), which are, ordered by estimated population:
