La Destra was originally a faction of Silvio Berlusconi's Forza Italia party. La Destra was associated with the New Right and Post-Fascist elements and was considered the most conservative element of the party. The faction was offically led by Francesco Storace, but its most popular figure was Daniela Santanche. Santanche became a close confident of Berlusconi, and as such the faction became more powerful. In 2010 Berlusconi stepped down as prime minister and Santanche succeded him
