l'Empereur Est Mort

From Alternative History

In the l'Empereur Est Mort timeline Napoléon, rather than focussing on Russia, stages an unsuccessfully invasion of the British Isles in 1812. Because of the weakness of the French navy most forces don't even manage to cross the Channel and those who do make it are defeated by the British Army. The Emperor himself dies during the invasion which causes his infant son to become Emperor of the French at the mere age of one.

Despite the fact that the invasion was an outright failure the very presence of French troops on British soil caused a shift in British public opinion on the war. As a consequence a peace treaty is signed in 1813, in which the Continental System was lifted and French rule over most of the continent was recognised by the British.

Because the Continental System was lifted the cooling between Russia and France was less intense and there was no Russian campaign. With no Russian campaign, no war with Britain and no overly ambitious Napoléon around to disrupt the balance, the French Empire survives to this very day.
