Korea is a unitary parliamentary democracy and a constitutional monarchy, with Empress Hina as its head of state. It is a developed country with a very high standard of living. It is one of the world's largest economies and a superpower.
Archaeology indicates that the Korean Peninsula was occupied by the Lower Paleolithic period (2.6 Ma - 300 Ka). Korean history begins the founding of Gojoseon in 2333 BCE by the legendary king Dan Gun. Gojoseon gradually disintegrated into many smaller states, of which Goguryeo, Baekje, and Silla were the most prominent. Following the unification of the three Kingdoms under Silla in 688 CE, Korea was subsequently ruled by the Goryeo Dynasty (918 - 1392) and Joseon Dynasty (1392 - 1910). During the Joseon Dynasty, Korea would begin its own colonial empire starting around 1600. It was annexed by the Russian Empire in 1910 for a while up until the end of World War I, Korea regained its independence with the help from Japan. The new Korean Empire was formally established in 1919 and revolutionary leader Kim Jaeyoung became its first emperor. Under Kim's leadership, the Korean economy grew significantly and the country was quickly transformed into one of the world's largest economies.
